"Lotto Trouble" is an unproduced episode of The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3. A slightly modified version of the episode also exists under the title of "Millionaire Mushroom".[2]
Plot synopsis[edit]
Toad enters the Mushroom Kingdom Lottery and hits the jackpot, becoming the richest Mushroomer in the Mushroom Kingdom. He initially promises to use his newfound wealth for the greater good of the kingdom, but soon he becomes obsessed with his money and begins bossing everyone around, including his friends, who refuse his offer to work as servants for him.
King Koopa soon learns about Toad's wealth and invites him to Kastle Koopa, where all of his demands are catered to by him and his Koopalings. Koopa tells Toad that he deserves a better class of friends, like him and the Koopa Kids, and convinces him to move into their castle. Toad accepts his offer, but Koopa steals his fortune and locks him in a dungeon, planning to cook him in a gigantic frying pan.
Mario, Luigi, and the Princess soon learn of Toad's predicament, and decide to sneak into Kastle Koopa to rescue him. However, they end up being captured themselves. With his friends awaiting their doom and Koopa about to lock up his fortune in his secret vault forever, Toad is faced with a difficult decision: he can either rescue his friends, or he can steal back his gold coins.
The outline of the episode ends here, but it can be assumed that the end of the episode has Toad ultimately choosing his friends over his money and learning the lesson that money does not buy happiness.

Differences in "Millionaire Mushroom"[edit]
"Millionaire Mushroom" is a slightly modified version of the episode "Lotto Trouble". While this version retains the overall plot and theme of the original episode, it contains a few differences:
- Toad finds a treasure of gold coins in the backyard of his house as opposed to winning the Mushroom Kingdom Lottery.
- "Lotto Trouble" has a scene where Toad's demands are catered to by Koopa and his Koopalings in Kastle Koopa. This scene is omitted in "Millionaire Mushroom".
- Koopa intends to buy a fleet of Doomships with Toad's fortune for as opposed simply locking it up his secret vault, with the goal of using them to conquer the Mushroom Kingdom.
- "Millionaire Mushroom" adds a scene where Toad sneaks into Kastle Koopa in an attempt to reclaim his gold, only to be captured by Koopa's minions.
Naming[edit]
The title of the episode is a pun on the phrase "[a] lot of trouble".
