Template:Character-infobox Ba-Boom, the Boisterous is the third boss in the game Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze. He is the boss of Bright Savannah, appearing in the level Triple Trouble. Before the battle, the Kongs notice a Banana Bunch in the air by a wooden pole. As they try to grab it, Ba-Boom slyly snatches the bunch. He then splits into three, all of whom promptly mock the Kongs, angering them.

General information

The Ba-Boom trio, taunting the Kongs

Physical description

Ba-Boom is a black mandrill, as evidenced by his bright blue cheeks, though his name in both English and Japanese suggests he is a baboon, of which mandrills were formerly classified as. Aside from his cheeks, his face resembles a long version of Donkey Kong's, and he also has messy hair. He wears a Viking helmet with the Snowmad symbol, as well as blue bracelets on his arms and legs. Ba-Boom's split selves look exactly like him, except one of them has teal cheeks and bracelets, while the other has red cheeks and bracelets.

Personality

Ba-Boom and his siblings are rather boisterous and energetic, always on the move and using fighting tactics that compliment his speed and agility. He also loves pulling pranks on others and will not hesitate to openly laugh at anyone who falls for them, with no fear of provoking them. In addition, Ba-Boom deeply values his fellow triplets, as shown by the many team-based moves they use against their enemies. Despite this, Ba-Boom may not care as much about his brothers as he appears to, as he is completely unfazed when one of them is defeated, and does not lose his composure when he is completely separated from them. However, due to his casual attitude, Ba-Boom can sometimes be careless and a little clumsy, swinging into the fray without defending himself and sometimes even falling down onto his head after a seemingly simple jump.

Attacks

Triple Trouble
Ba-Boom, swinging to attack the Kongs

The three apes move quickly, often relying on his speed to attack. Ba-Boom and his copies attack by swinging a rope, and swinging a hammer. They can all perform a rolling attack, though they end up getting dizzy and vulnerable at the end of it. They also throw Watermelon Fuse Bombs, which can be spiky or green; the green watermelons can be thrown back at them. Ba-Boom can also call his siblings to his side if they are not defeated. When two of the brothers are defeated, Ba-Boom will create weaker shadow clones of himself, and repeat the aforementioned patterns. Him and these clones also swing back and forth in a chain formation while tossing bombs.

Combat

To defeat Ba-Boom, the Kongs will have to damage the brothers, either by jumping on them, or by throwing their Watermelon Fuse Bombs back at them. However, the Kongs can only jump on their rear ends, as their helmets will render jump attacks on the head useless. However, this can be mitigated by using Cranky Kong's cane jump. They are more vulnerable when on the ground, and they can be rolled into.

Each brother can only take up to three hits, and as they take damage, their fur color becomes lighter. When one Ba-Boom member is defeated, however, the remaining members will fully heal themselves before beginning the next phase.

Trivia

  • Ba-Boom uses ninjutsu in order to create two shadow clones, as evident by his usage of hand seal movements.
  • When Ba-Boom performs a rolling attack, the animation and sound effect are similar to Sonic the Hedgehog's Spin Dash.
  • Given how Ba-Boom lured Donkey Kong into a trap with a Banana Bunch, this makes him the only other boss in the game (besides Lord Fredrik), to have seemingly known about Donkey Kong before the two meet.
