Banana Birds (scientific name according to Bramble: Bananus Goldus Flutterus) are a species of birds who are made out of partially peeled bananas. Banana Birds first appear in Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble!. They are the children of the Banana Queen, whom the Banana Birds were separated from during the events of the game, and Dixie Kong and Kiddy Kong must collect the Banana Birds and reunite them with the Banana Queen.
History
Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble!
Banana Birds have an essential role in Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble!. A Banana Bird can usually be obtained from a secret cave, where the player must play a memory game and copy the order in which the four crystals flash. If done correctly, a Banana Bird gets released from the crystal at the top of the ceiling. A few of the Banana Birds can be obtained from a Brother Bear. In the Game Boy Advance remake, Dixie and Kiddy can earn a Banana Bird from Funky Kong, Swanky Kong and Cranky Kong if the player completes their respective minigames.
Three of the Banana Birds can obtained with the Gyrocopter, by flying to their respective secret caves. After rescuing every Banana Bird and defeating Baron K. Roolenstein in the Knautilus, the Kongs must visit Wrinkly's Save Cave (or Wrinkly's Retreat in the Game Boy Advance remake) to have the Banana Birds fly to the Banana Queen, taking the Kongs with them. It is revealed that K. Roolenstein had cursed them, causing the babies to be imprisoned in crystal and the mother behind an evil barrier. All of the Banana Birds sing, which causes the barrier to break.
Donkey Konga
In Donkey Konga, many Banana Birds hop around the lower part of the screen while Donkey Kong plays a song. They only act as scenery and have no in-game effect. Banana Birds appear in every musical performance mode ("Street Performance", "Challenge", and "Jam Session"). Only a few hop around the screen in "Jam Session".
Banana Birds are not featured in multiplayer mode, as the bottom portion is reserved for the second player (Diddy Kong).
