Limited Lifts[1] (also referred to generically as rafts[2] and lifts[3]) are a type of platform found in New Super Mario Bros. Wii and New Super Mario Bros. U.
History[edit]
New Super Mario Bros. Wii[edit]
A Limited Lift first appears in World 5-4 of New Super Mario Bros. Wii, where it is the main gimmick of the level. It is found floating in poison, and will start moving once the player steps on it. It features numbers on its side that start from zero and go up to five, representing the number of enemies and objects onboard the raft at once, not including the players. The Limited Lift stops when at least five enemies and objects board it, and the player must clear out at least one enemy or object on the raft to get it moving again.
New Super Mario Bros. U / New Super Luigi U / New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe[edit]
Limited Lifts return in New Super Mario Bros. U and New Super Luigi U, exhibiting the same behavior as in New Super Mario Bros. Wii, albeit with the numbers now counting down instead of up. One appears in Magma-River Cruise in the former and in Magmaw River Cruise in the latter, and they are floating in lava rather than poison this time. Limited Lifts are also given prominent roles in the challenges Mole to Goal and Mole to Goal Returns, with the limit reduced to two in both cases.
Limited Lifts reappear in New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe.
