Organize lists by first name

Considering that our categories sort them by their first name, and the fact that users would likely look for people by their first name since that's the first thing they see in the title (it's certainly what I always do) and every other template is organized by first name, wouldn't it make more sense to organize them by their first name? Fictional/real characters

Now that I've already made a handful of articles based on historical figures, it'd be best to bring it up here. People like Plato and Thomas Jefferson and Louis Pasteur are, obviously, real people, and they're appearing as themselves, so it'd be technically valid to add them here. At the same time, adding them to this template would be dumb, least of all because nobody is using this template for fictionalized versions of historical figures. Still, we have several people listed here that appeared in The Super Mario Bros. Super Show as characters, including Brian Bonsall, David Horowitz, Nicole Eggert, Ernie Hudson, and others. We've even included fictional characters from other properties played by their original actors, like Sgt. Slaughter and Elvira. Should all of these people be listed here? And for a real doozy: what about Andrew Iverson, Dave Grenewetzki, Jeff Griffeath, and Don Lloyd, all of whom are developers of Mario's Time Machine and also appear as fictionalized versions of themselves within the game (and frankly, any information on them beyond what's in the game is sparse). I'd find it weird to list Jason Bateman alongside Joan of Arc. I do like your idea, but at the same time, I can't help but think that there's some sort of difference between an actor who makes a live and physical appearance as "themselves" and a famous historical figure that only appears as ones and zeroes. Actually, another thing: what about George Washington? He doesn't have an article (yet), but he makes an appearance in the live-action episode "George Washington Slept Here" and, though he's a part of a dream, he's meant to be the historical figure for all intents and purposes. How I've understood it is {{people}} is used for real people and {{human}} is used for fictional ones. So, considering their roles in Mario's Time Machine, perhaps they could be placed in both? 20:27, 2 August 2017 (EDT)

Split?

This template is starting to get very long, and, if more people are added, this is only going to get longer. I feel like it'd be a lot better if we split this up into subcategories such as game designers, voice actors, etc. Basically all the subcategories of this template as their own templates is what I'm suggesting should happen to this. Splitting time! Voice actors in their own template

This talk page proposal has already been settled. Please do not edit this section or its subsections. If you wish to discuss the article, please do so in a new section below the proposal.

Ok, after some deliberation in the last talk section up here and in the editing comments, we seem to agree we should split the voice actors from the People template for simplicity. With a new template we might even adequately divide the sections per media (like Super Mario Bros.: Peach-hime Kyūshutsu Dai Sakusen!, Super Mario Bros. (film) and The Super Mario Bros. Movie), instead of having all the involved media under one category (like "movies").

I would propose, we keep the main English/Japanese voice actors (such as Charles Martinet) in the main template, since they are quite relevant for the "people" category, but we do add them to the new template too. Kinda like we have a template for various comics series, while Yukio Sawada and Kazuki Motoyama's works have a separate navbox each for the volumes that re-lists the series as well.

If the motion doesn't pass, I/we will work on making the current collapsable section more organized.

Waluigi Time (talk) I've talked about this before, but I'd prefer using collapsible sections when navboxes start to get too unwieldy (see Template:Humans and Template:MKT for examples of this already being done). Voice actors are, after all, still people, so their absence on this template would be awkward for readers, especially since the split is entirely for practical reasons of "too many" (not helped by this proposal's intention to arbitrarily leave some VAs here even if the split goes through). I don't think this practice in general helps navigation (for many games, you can't access their levels or items at all from other subjects in the game because of navbox splits).
2. Camwoodstock (talk) Per Waluigi Time. If Tour can have a merged infobox with collapsible fields, we don't see why voice talent should get a split.
3. Technetium (talk) If we split anything, it should be the historical figures section.

My question is moreso about defining precisely what the list of main voice actors is. Is Cappy's a main VA? What about the new Pauline's? Or the first of Rosalina's VAs? Possible ways to format the VAs template should this proposal go through (parenthesis is sub-sections or whatever they're called):

Number 1:

• Super Mario series (Current, Former, One-time(?))
• Donkey Kong series (Current, Former)
• WarioWare series (English, Japanese)
• Mario + Rabbids series (English, Japanese)
• DiC Cartoons
• Films (English, Japanese)
• Other (sub-sections would be any other voiced media)

Then collapsable menu with non-English and Japanese VAs

Number 2:

• English (Super Mario series (Current, Former), Donkey Kong series (current, former), WarioWare series, Mario + Rabbids series, Cartoons, Films)
• Japanese (Super Mario series (Current, Former), Donkey Kong series (current, former), WarioWare series, Mario + Rabbids series, Anime Film, Films)
• French, Spanish, and so on (whatever media has those dubs)

The main idea I had was having each medium (game, series, movies, others) being in their own collapsable box, then dividing the titles in multilanguage Like:

We assume the idea to give width tags to the series column goes without saying, but in case it does, we're glad to have mentioned that. In addition, sub-dropdowns like we have on Template:MKT could be nice, but that's mostly for the template itself.
