Rally (event)
This article is under construction. Therefore, please excuse its informal appearance while it is being worked on. We hope to have it completed as soon as possible.
A rally is an event in which racers drive along multiple routes spanning the continent in the Knockout Tour mode in Mario Kart World. Rallies feature multiple checkpoints between the starting point and ending points and the music that plays is determined by the neighboring race track for each checkpoint and routinely changes throughout the rally. The final checkpoint in a rally is always a standard lap race on one of the game's race tracks. Routes taken in rallies sometimes may overlap various race tracks throughout, while other times they may not intersect one another at all.
Emblems used to represent rallies mirror their Grand Prix counterparts. As such, there are eight rallies in the game.:
- The Golden Rally and Mushroom Cup are both represented with mushrooms.
- The Ice Rally and Flower Cup are both represented with flowers.
- The Moon Rally and Star Cup are both represented with celestial bodies.
- The Spiny Rally and Shell Cup are both represented with Koopa shells.
- The Cherry Rally and Banana Cup are both represented with fruits.
- The Acorn Rally and Leaf Cup are both represented with objects that grow from trees.
- The Cloud Rally and Lightning Cup are both represented with sky-related objects.
- The Heart Rally and Special Cup are represented with a crown and an item wearing a crown.

Differences from VS Race routes[edit]
This section is under construction. Therefore, please excuse its informal appearance while it is being worked on. We hope to have it completed as soon as possible.

Of the following 40 routes used in Knockout Tour, 12 routes are significantly different than their equivalent routes used in VS Race outside of the connection between the two tracks slightly differing:
- Ice Rally:
- Starview Peak to Dandelion Depths in the Ice Rally takes racers through DK Pass's Battle course, despite DK Pass not being a checkpoint in the Ice Rally.
- While both the Ice Rally and Moon Rally use routes from Dandelion Depths to Cheep Cheep Falls, only the Moon Rally's version resembles the equivalent VS mode route, while the Ice Rally version is completely unique.
- Peach Stadium to Crown City ends the Ice Rally on Crown City's Mushroom Cup variant, despite the VS mode route of Peach Stadium to Crown City ending on a unique third variant.
- Spiny Rally:
- Boo Cinema to Starview Peak in the Spiny Rally takes drivers through significantly less of the Ghost Valley parts of its route.
- Starview Peak to DK Pass does not go down DK Pass's Battle course like in VS Race.
- DK Pass to Salty Salty Speedway features a gliding section not present in its VS Race counterpart.
- Acorn Rally:
- Cheep Cheep Falls to DK Pass takes drivers through a lake not present in its VS Race counterpart.
- Cloud Rally:
- Mario Bros. Circuit to Crown City takes a different path than its version in both Grand Prix and VS Race.
- Faraway Oasis to Great ? Block Ruins takes a different path than its VS Race counterpart.
- Heart Rally:
- Airship Fortress to Dry Bones Burnout goes into the hot springs first rather than going straight to the course like on VS Race.
- Dry Bones Burnout to Mario Circuit takes a different routes compared to its VS Race counterpart.
- Moo Moo Meadows to Peach Stadium goes through right-hand side of Moo Moo Meadows rather than the left like in VS Race.
Grand Prix Overlap[edit]
In addition to the aforementioned Mario Bros. Circuit-Crown City route being the same direction as its Grand Prix counterpart (albeit with a completely different path than in either Grand Prix or VS Mode) and the Dandelion Depths-Cheep Cheep Falls routes being in the opposite direction as a route used in Grand Prix, several other routes are used in both directions in Knockout Tour, or are the opposite-direction counterparts of a route used in Grand Prix.
Three pairs of routes are used in both directions in different Knockout Tours:
- Shy Guy Bazaar and Airship Fortress
- Cheep Cheep Falls and Peach Stadium
- Mario Circuit and Moo Moo Meadows
Eight pairs of routes are used in opposite directions in Knockout Tour compared to Grand Prix:
- Acorn Heights and Mario Circuit
- DK Spaceport and Whistlestop Summit
- Bowser's Castle and Toad's Factory
- Choco Mountain and Moo Moo Meadows
- Crown City and Faraway Oasis
- Crown City and Peach Stadium
- DK Pass and Starview Peak
- Peach Beach and Salty Salty Speedway
