Blue Yoshi (also known as Dark Blue YoshiTemplate:Fact) is a Yoshi that can fly when it has any color shell in its mouth in Super Mario World plus the option of the shell power. In Yoshi's Story, it's favorite fruit is Grapes.

A Yoshi can become a Blue Yoshi if the Wing power-up is found in Super Mario World, accessing a bonus stage that automatically ends the level whenever Mario and the Yoshi fall. In addition, the Yoshi stays blue after the level ends. A baby Blue Yoshi can be found in the underwater Star Road 2 stage.

In Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island they're playable on the eighth level of every world (boss castle), except for 6-8: King Bowser's Castle, in which Green Yoshi takes its place. This make it the least-used of the Yoshis. It is hinted that Blue Yoshi might be a female when Kamek says "Give it up! You cutie without a Naval! Oop forget that..." in the level Naval Piranha's Castle

Blue Yoshi also appears in the Super Smash Bros. series. Although not playable in Super Smash Bros., it appears with the Yoshi team in 1-Player Mode. In Super Smash Bros. Melee and Super Smash Bros. Brawl, it's one of Yoshi's recolors. Blue Yoshi also represents the blue team in team battles. A Blue Yoshi also appears as a sticker in Brawl.

In Mario Power Tennis, Yoshi can change colors every time he performs a Rolling Egg Return, provided the player has completed the Flower Cup with any character. One of the colors that Yoshi can turn is blue.

In Mario Super Sluggers, Blue Yoshi makes his baseball debut as a color change for Yoshi, he has the best arm out of all of them. In Challenge Mode, Blue Yoshi is found in Yoshi Park. He gives the player several questions in order to figure out the combination for the gate. Afterwards, he joins Mario on his quest.

Appearance

In Super Mario World, Blue Yoshi, like the other yoshis in that game, had blue skin, but orange arms, brown shoes and a brown saddle. In Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, Blue Yoshi looked about the same as it did in Super Mario World, but with orange shoes and an orange saddle. However in the Gameboy Advance remake, Blue Yoshi wore pink shoes. From Yoshi's Story and on, Blue Yoshi had magenta shoes and a red saddle. In Yoshi's Island's sequel, Yoshi's Island DS, Blue Yoshi is more purple in color.
