In fact, he spends all his time in front of mirrors practicing (what he considers to be) scary poses. Although Uncle Grimmly likes to think he is frightening, his ability to spook is actually sub-par compared to almost all other ghosts (even minor ones). Uncle Grimmly appeared in the game ''[[Luigi's Mansion]]''.
'''Uncle Grimmly''' is a forty-five-year-old [[portrait ghost]] in ''[[Luigi's Mansion]]'' and [[Luigi's Mansion (Nintendo 3DS)|its Nintendo 3DS remake]]. He has pale blue skin, an oval head, small yellow eyes, and jowls. He has a brown coat with two opal buttons, a dark purple necktie and a boutonniere on the left side. Uncle Grimmly loves [[Mirror (object)|mirrors]]. Uncle Grimmly's portrait number in [[Professor E. Gadd]]'s gallery is 20.


The only thing Uncle Grimmly loves more than mirrors is darkness. He will only appear when an area becomes pitch black, which is exactly what happened when lightning struck [[Luigi's Mansion (place)|Luigi's Mansion]] after [[Luigi]] defeated [[Boolossus]] and unsealed the door to the fourth and final area. The lightning strike caused the circuit breakers to blow out, creating a blackout throughout the entire mansion. In these dark and eerie conditions, the ghosts came out in force, and there were too many for Luigi to handle. Even the solitary Uncle Grimmly came out of hiding. As such, Luigi needed to restore power to the mansion to put the ghouls back into hiding. To do this, the green-clad [[plumber]] had to reactivate the circuit breakers in the [[Breaker Room]], located in the mansion's basement. Unfortunately, Uncle Grimmly locked the door to the Breaker Room with a [[key]] to keep Luigi's Mansion in perpetual darkness. Thus Luigi had to locate Grimmly before he could restore light to the dark mansion.
Uncle Grimmly appears only during the [[blackout]], and he is the only portrait ghost with this distinction. In an optional phone call in the [[Telephone Room]], Luigi can learn from [[Professor E. Gadd]] that Uncle Grimmly holds the [[key]] to the [[Breaker Room]] and that he prefers to reside in rooms with mirrors; this is meant to hint to the [[Wardrobe Room]], where Uncle Grimmly is found hovering in front of a mirror. Upon seeing Luigi, Uncle Grimmly tries to scare Luigi by lifting up his hand and wailing, leaving him vulnerable to Luigi's flashlight. Once Uncle Grimmly is sucked into the [[Poltergust 3000]], Luigi can obtain the key to the Breaker Room, which had presumably been locked by Uncle Grimmly, and enter it.


Fortunately, Luigi received a phone call from [[Professor E. Gadd]] following the lightning strike. The good professor informed Luigi that Uncle Grimmly prefers to reside in rooms with mirrors. As such, Luigi investigated the many rooms with mirrors in the mansion (searching for three hidden [[Speedy Spirit]]s along the way), eventually stumbling across Grimmly in the [[Wardrobe Room]] on the second floor. Once there, Luigi discovered Uncle Grimmly hovering in front of a mirror. The portrait ghost tried to scare Luigi by pathetically lifting up his hands and meekly wailing, but even Luigi was not scared. At this time, the green-clad hero activated his flashlight, stunning Grimmly as he attempted to scare the plumber. Luigi then turned on his [[Poltergust 3000]] and began pulling the portrait ghost into the contraption. Uncle Grimmly did not even put up much of a fight. After a few weak pulls on Grimmly's part, Luigi managed to suck up the portrait ghost and acquire the key to the breaker room. After the lights were reactivated, the many ghosts that were previously having a field day in the pitch black mansion went back into hiding, allowing Luigi to continue his journey.
Uncle Grimmly is thought to speak in a northern English dialect, since he uses the phrase "by gum" in his heart quote.


According to Luigi's [[Game Boy Horror]], Uncle Grimmly likes to keep to himself. Sadly, this suits Grimmly's family just fine.

Uncle Grimmly is a forty-five-year-old portrait ghost in Luigi's Mansion and its Nintendo 3DS remake. He has pale blue skin, an oval head, small yellow eyes, and jowls. He has a brown coat with two opal buttons, a dark purple necktie and a boutonniere on the left side. Uncle Grimmly loves mirrors. Uncle Grimmly's portrait number in Professor E. Gadd's gallery is 20.
