Written by: Yoshi876 (talk)

Hello and welcome back to Pipe Plaza! I know I thanked you last month, but in this Awards special it'd seem silly not to thank you voters again for voting us as third best sub-team. As we were one vote short of Critic Corner we have goals for next year. Also, I'd like to thank you all for voting me joint 'Shroom person of the year, it truly is an honour.

Anyway, we have news for Pipe Plaza, YoshiKong (talk) is writing Projects Seeking Contributions (he started again last month, but I forgot to mention him :P), and Alex95 (talk) is our new New Articles writer. There still a few vacant Pipe Plaza positions, so if you want to apply for any of those send an application to Henry Tucayo Clay (talk) and hopefully you'll get the job! Sadly, Paper Yoshi (talk) was unable to write his section this month, but don't worry he will be back next month.

Tip of the Month

Written by: FunkyK38 (talk)

When interacting with others on the Proposals page, you should always be respectful. This page is for discussion and decisions, not an edit or flame war. Don't be rude when posting a comment, and be open to new ideas from others. Make sure to stay on discussion as well, and keep in mind the criteria for posting on the Proposals page versus a Talk Page Proposal.

RECENTLY PASSED PROPOSALS
PROPOSER SUMMARY OUTCOME DEADLINE
Lord Bowser (talk) Create a template for the TTYD badge drop rates.

A proposal to create a template for Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door's badge drop rates. The proposer argues that the code of the infobox that shows the rates of badges being held or dropped by enemies during a battle is fairly complex for such a frequently used infobox, and users inexperienced with code can easily ruin the entire infobox by making a typo in the wrong spot. The proposer also argues that creating a template which streamlines the code found in these infoboxes will make them more accessible and far easier to edit.

YoshiKong (talk) Deleting shadow or shadowless versions of artworks.

A proposal to establish which version of artworks we should keep (shadow or shadowless). The proposer argues that users have uploaded both shadow and no shadow versions of the same artwork, and treated them as separate pictures in galleries and that several times users have questioned the necessity of having both versions stored on this website.

3D Player 2010 (talk) Remove critic ratings from the wiki entirely.

A proposal to remove critic ratings entirely from the Super Mario Wiki. The proposer argues that in a recent proposal, it was decided that series pages such as Mario (franchise) should have critic ratings removed. The proposer also argues that critic ratings have bias to them based on the opinion of the critic, and biases are not desirable on the wiki.

Fawful's Minion (talk) Reinforce the use of image maps.

A proposal to reinforce the usage of image maps. The proposer argues that these images could help people if they got problems in certain areas in Mario games. The proposer also argues that the Super Mario Wiki is an encyclopedia, so it needs the most information on the Mario franchise as possible.

A proposal to split Bramble Scramble (Donkey Kong Land 2) from Bramble Scramble (Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest). The proposer argues that every other Country and Land level article are split, so those two variations should be on separate pages. Same level names, different layouts.

Wildgoosespeeder (talk) Move TOC to various Infobox templates

A proposal to move TOC into various Infobox templates. The proposer argues that the default spot where the TOC shows up is before the first header to the left and this gets in the way if images are put in a similar spot and creates white space.

A proposal to implement a Reminder template about categorizing images by game. The proposer also argues that some people forget to add an additional category when uploading images, such as those from Category:Images by game.

A proposal to merge Mini Bob-omb, an enemy from Mario vs. Donkey Kong 2: March of the Minis with Bob-omb. The proposer argues that Mini Bob-omb looks and acts exactly like a regular Bob-omb and that the only real evidence they're different is that they're smaller.

Qyzxf (talk) Stop referring to the Koopalings with their full names.

A proposal to stop referring the Koopalings with their full names (Ludwig von Koopa to Ludwig). The proposer argues that only a few games ever actually use these names and explains how the article of Princess Peach is called Princess Peach instead of Princess Peach Toadstool, because the surname is not used anymore.

Tails777 (talk) Either rename Duke, Lulu and Rockman to The Dino Riders or split the three characters into separate articles.

A proposal to decide if the article Duke, Lulu and Rockman should be renamed to The Dino Riders or if each character should have an article. The proposer argues that the article name could be better. The proposer also argues that renaming the article is better, because not enough is known about them individually and the fact that they are always together means they aren't worth having separate articles.

Projects Seeking Contributors

Written by: YoshiKong (talk)

Shroom Match Maker.png

G'day 'shroomers, YoshiKong here. I would like to welcome you to a new edition of Pipe Plaza's Projects Seeking Contributors, a monthly section which summarises the latest projects, collaborations and important discussions which concern the MarioWiki. All readers, regardless of experience or position within our community, are invited to share their opinions and valuable input on the following projects and discussions.

This section of Pipe Plaza is designed to make it easier for you to quickly identify different types of available projects. All projects are organised under three different headers, as presented below. Each header contains a neat table which provides the name of the topic concerned, with a brief summary of what that topic is about and what you can do to help. The sections are further split into projects being discussed on the wiki or forum respectively.

Projects Seeking Contributors

The following are a selection of projects or special requests which are taking place on wiki talk pages. Please see here for a complete list.

Topic Description
Talk:Coin Heaven
A source has been requested for the title "Coin Heaven".
Talk:Game Over
Help us upload and list any "Game Over" screenshots which are missing from the article.
Talk:List of PMTTYD glitches
Users who have access to the game are asked to double check how a described glitch is performed. Ideally it should also be added to the article's list.
Talk:Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story
A screenshot showing the use of SPD-Up in the game Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story has been requested.
Talk:Paper Mario: Sticker Star
Help us format the reception section of Paper Mario: Sticker Star with a proper table, as per MarioWiki:Reception and sales.
Talk:Softnica
Help clarify the relationship between "Softnica" and "Pax Softnica". It has been requested that a user who is fluent in Japanese should provide a translation of several given webpages, which may contain information of assistance.
Talk:Super Smash Bros.
Help us find the correct Australian release date of Super Smash Bros.
Talk:Tetris DS
Help source better quality versions of several given images. Also, it has been suggested that Tetris DS be merged with the List of references in video games article.
Talk:Underhand
Players of Super Paper Mario have been asked to confirm a certain piece of information on the Underhand article.
Talk:SandWorm
Discuss the validity and correct usage of the title "Big Scorper", in regards to conflicting sources.
Talk:Yoshi's Safari
It has been suggested that TOSE Software Co. may have developed Yoshi's Safari. Any users who can confirm this with a reliable source have been invited to respond to this discussion.

The following have been taken from the Wiki Collaborations forum board.

Topic Description
Manga coverage: Donkey Kong Country CoroCoro Comics
Discuss how the Japanese publishing company "CoroCoro Comics" may be covered by the wiki, as well as a recently found two volume Donkey Kong Country TV series manga.
Manga coverage: Kodansha's Super Mario
A manga series titled "KC Deluxe" has been sourced. Significant progress has already been made to cover the series, although there are some further requests on translating some content.
Japanese object names from the Mario Encyclopedia
The Japanese Mario Encyclopedia may confirm some official names for those which are currently conjectural. Any users who own the book are asked to share the relevant pages, and translations where official names could potentially be found.
Collab: Articles for all of the levels
Individual world missions, such as those seen in Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Galaxy, should be split into separate articles as per policy. Check out which missions still require an article, and help fulfill this goal.

Discussions Seeking Input

The following are a selection of discussions on the wiki which are in need of input from users. Please see here for a complete list.

Topic Description
Category talk:Artifacts
Help decide whether Category:Artifacts should be provided with specific category-qualifying constraints, or simply be deleted and the pages re-categorized.
Talk:Clampy
Discuss whether Clam and Clampy should share a single article.
Talk:Grab Block
Discuss whether the Ice Block appearance from Super Mario Bros. 3 should be merged with Grab Block, due to their identical in-game usage.
Talk:Mega Toss
Help source the original article title "Power Throw", which has since been moved to "Mega Toss" as seen in a more recent game appearance.
Category talk:Nintendo DSi XL Images
Provide input on the necessity of this category, and the usage of other subsystem categories.
Category talk:Politicians
Provide input on the necessity of this category, due to crossovers with Category:Mayors.
Talk:Pure Heart
Give input about a reanalysis of the "Sources of love" information on the Pure Heart article.
Talk:Shell Helmet
Discuss whether the Shell Helmet article should be rewritten as a transformation of Mario ("Shell Mario"), rather than the conjecturally-named power up object.
Talk:StreetPass Mii Plaza
It has been suggested that StreetPass Mii Plaza should be merged with List of references in video games and Nintendo 3DS.
Talk:Super Mario Galaxy 2
Provide input on whether Super Mario Galaxy 2 should be referred to as a "sequel" by definition.
Gallery talk:Toys
Several images showing toys have been left unused. Help us decide where they belong.
Talk:Wario's Woods
Discuss how information about a secret "Challenge Mode" should covered as part of the game Wario's Woods.

The following have been taken from the Wiki Collaborations forum board.

Topic Description
Scrap the "List of Implied" pages?
Discuss how the "List of implied" pages should be re-hauled in order to remove generic subjects and low-quality information.
Artwork hunting!
A unique artwork of Yoshi has been discovered, although the physical source where the artwork comes from is currently unknown. Any users who may know where the artwork came from have been asked to post their input.

Pinned Projects Post Sticky Icon.png

These are long-running projects, areas of discussion or collaborations which are continuously being worked on towards achievement. They will feature in this section every month.

Subject Description
Holy Grails
The "Holy Grails" is a list of elusive article subjects, where information is extremely difficult to find. Please take a look at the list, and let us know if you are able to provide us with information on any of these subjects.
'Shroom Spotlight
Check out this month's edition of The 'Shroom Spotlight. It brings attention to a small group of articles which need improvement. Each of the articles are normally taken from a different improvement category, such as rewriting an article or adding more images. So there is always something for everyone's interests and abilities.
Category:Stubs
Stubs are articles or sections which are currently too short due to missing information. We invite you to take a look at the category, and contribute content to any subjects that you may be familiar with.
MarioWiki:Proposals
Be sure to check the Proposals page (as well as any current talk page proposals) where you can vote for, and give your opinions on proposed changes to the wiki. Such as new policies and features, splits and merges of articles, and deletions.

And that concludes a new edition of Projects Seeking Contributors. I hoped you enjoyed viewing the section. I want to know what you think of the design and arrangement in how projects are presented, so therefore I invite all readers to leave me feedback. You can send me a personal message, or simply fill out this form (external website). My goal is to continuously improve the section's presentation.

Thank you!
– YK

Poll Committee Discussion

Written by: Freakworld (talk)

Hello! This is Freakworld speaking, and this is the first time I'm writing the Poll Committee Report, and also my first time writing a Pipe Plaza section in general. Yay!

Before we get into last month's polls, I'd like to direct your attention to the fact that we have finally introduced the much wanted "Submit a Poll" feature on the front page of the wiki (It's directly under our weekly poll, if you want to check it out!). Every poll submitted through this feature gets posted on the Committee Staff board, and is reviewed and adjusted, before getting added to the poll queue once we think its of sufficient quality. It is our pleasure to feature the best polls made by the community, for the community, on the Mario Wiki, along with the usual handpicked polls made directly by the committee, plus some special wiki-related polls developed specifically by the Wiki Administrative Staff that will continue to show up once a month.

Now, without further ado, let's discuss some polls!

Analysis

  • "Mario & Luigi" vs. "Paper Mario": With the recent developments in the Paper Mario series that have led some long-time fans to lose confidence in the series, it stands to no surprise that the Mario & Luigi series with its consistent quality wins over the Paper Mario option, albeit by a relatively small margin. However, a lot of Mario RPG fans love all of their RPGs (save for one or maybe two famous examples) equally, and thus the option where nobody is the loser emerges as the second most popular one.
  • Gameplay for the next Mario platformer: Since the person who has written this Poll Committee report was also responsible for designing this poll, I feel obliged to share some background information here. It doesn't surprise me at all that the Super Mario 64-esque option dominated this poll, because that was what I expected upon creating it. My main reason for adding the other options was giving the options to try something fresh (2D-Metroidvania style), or stay with the established linear 2D or 3D formats. This poll clearly shows that many people are not happy with the current direction of the series (or at least not as happy as they'd be if we got another Mario 64), on the other hand it also shows the great amount of people who just seek and find their fun in any type of platformer gameplay, which is of course perfectly alright as well.
  • What do you normally search for on the MarioWiki?: This was actually the first in a monthly series of mostly statistics based polls about the Wiki itself, which are aiming to aid the Wiki Staff in understanding the needs and demands and interests of their community better. This particular poll was also the first one in this term to be designed by an user who is not currently a member of the Poll Committee, being made by Sysop YoshiKong (talk). I think this poll shows very well what our community is most interested in, that being Games, Characters, and News, and will greatly aid the Staff in continuing to develop the Wiki.

In other words, there's some huge things going on in the Poll Committee right now, everyone here is motivated to manage this project for the coming months, and I'm personally especially thrilled to see more community-made polls in the future. Next month you will be blessed by the presence of Roy Koopa (talk) in this spot here, so be sure to come right back for more stunning Poll News!

He would go on to write Entertainment Section four more times; Mario, Non-Mario two more times and Wanted Poster four more times. Whilst writing for The 'Shroom he also wrote Fake Movies three times, Fake TV twice and contributed one Sketch Related to Mario.

Anyway, you're not here to hear about the history of Luigi 128, so instead I'll just have you enjoy one of his Mario, Non-Mario sections, more specifically the one from Issue XXIX.

Mario, Non-Mario

by Luigi 128 (talk)

Hello wikians, we all know the videogame heroes, but, have you ever see who's on his side? yeah the sidekicks, this month I'll compare two sidekicks...

VS.

Luigi

At fisrts he was only a recolored palette of Mario but later Luigi will get his own personality and even his own game

Role in games

Luigi is seen in varius games as a coward (Luigi's Mansion, Mario & Luigi Series, etc) but sometimes he gets the role of hero (most times when Mario is in risk) before he was in the mario adventure games as the second player but in Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Sunshine he doesn't appear and only appeared in spin-off games

In the shadow of Mario

As I sayed in Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Sunshine Luigi din't appeared but that's not the only reason that makes Luigi bein in Mario's Shadow also in almost all the Spin-off games he is exactly like Mario but weaker another proof is the number of Luigi in Mario Strikers Series Luigi is #2 when Mario is #1

Tails

He appeared in Sonic 2 as a Sonic fan who began to follow him after he was saved by him

Role in games

He appeared in the first Sonic games as Sonic's sidekick and always followed him but in later Sonic games he appeared only as a support character (minus Sonic Heroes) 'cause Shadow, Silver, Blaze and many other characters came to follow (or confront) Sonic and since then Sonic left behind his friend

In the shadow of Sonic

As I sayed before at first he was always behind Sonic but later he was left behind appearing only as a support character or in Spin-offs as a playable character (That sometimes follows Sonic like in old times) but is considered a weak character in these games

Winer

WINNER<showhide>__HIDER__<hide>
Mariokartwiiluigi.jpg

Yeah I know what you gonna say "He only let Luigi win 'cause he is his fan" but I swear that this dessision is %100 pure just think it Luigi is Mario's Shadow but at least he wasn't left behind by Mario like Sonic left behind Tails

Score

Mario: 2

Non-Mario:1

Whoa now Mario is winning but there are still to many character to compare

Well 'till next month

Good evening gents and ladies. Especially the latter and former. Did you have a nice weekend? Nice weather? Boy it was like 32°C out here last week, you wouldn't believe how ho… wha..? Oh, yeah, Anniversary Announcements.

Let's see, most if not all news is to do with tournaments the past month. Let's see which ones are still rolling.

Awards Mafia VI

Hosts: Stooben Rooben and Superchao · Date: TBA · Forum Topic

The game is in final planning stages and will start soon. The sign-ups have closed a little while ago, but due to a recent number of people leaving all replacements have been used and one spot has opened! You can still sign up as a replacement after that spot is filled. If someone drops out for any reason, you can then replace them in the game.

Guess the Results

Closed · Host: Awards Staff · Forum Topic

The results are still being tallied as of writing this, but you can compare your own or other's guesses with the results of the Awards in the meantime.

While the exact date for this tournament is to be determined, plans are for 22 September or 24 September.

Pokémon

This tournament has also finished and has pushed forward Timmy as the winner! Following up are Cirdec and Hooded Pitohui.

Splatoon

Host: The Pyro Guy · Date: Canceled · Forum Topic

This tournament has been officially canceled this year.

Super Smash Bros. for Wii U

Host: Groden · Date: 1 July to early August · Forum Topic

Three rounds have been finished and the fourth is currently going, although no matches have been reported in the past month. Currently leading is Timmy.

Now for a quick word from our sponsor about prizes. For every tournament, you can earn tokens, which you can then later exchange for prizes. These don't come out of Yoshi Eggs, so if you are interested in donating such prizes, please contact Hypnotoad, Mr. Edo or Twentytwofiftyseven on the Boards. Recommended items include all sorts of gift cards and Steam items. We are grateful for any donations!
Keep in mind that certain items impose a region lock, but you can buy most items for another region. Past years have pointed out that there are mostly North America gift cards, but European cards are welcomed as well!

Also, if you don't want to exchange your tokens for prizes, because none of prizes interest you, you have an excess of them or for any other reason, you may also donate your tokens to a special pool, which will then be converted to a monetary value and donated to the Tommy Thompson Park Bird Research Station, where late bureaucrat and friend Walkazo volunteered to study and protect birds.
You can also directly donate to Hypnotoad via PayPal to help fund this. Please contact him for information on this.

That was Anniversary Announcements for this month. Because of the calmness after the storm we have going currently, I'll probably not be here next month, so until next time, keep y'alls Control Sticks smokin'!

All information above was correct as of 14 September 2016.
