Raarghs in the Ruins is a course in Super Mario Bros. Wonder. It is found in Deep Magma Bog and is unlocked after clearing Where the Rrrumbas Rule. This course primarily features Raarghs, fiery enemies that wait on surfaces and rush in a straight path when a player is within their sight. This course also features blue blocks that will only appear if the players are facing the same direction as them and if they are close. Completion of this course unlocks Badge Challenge Grappling Vine II and Pull, Turn, Burn. This course has a difficulty of three stars, and houses two Wonder Seeds.

Layout[edit]

The players start at an area where they can see lava in front of them, but blue invisible blocks act as a bridge across it. There is then more lava but a single big blue invisible block acts as a bridge across it. A Green Koopa Troopa is found close to this lava. There is then a block with two Red Koopa Troopa’s on it, in between two gaps of lava once again covered by blue invisible blocks. The players will then come across the first Raargh in the stage, waiting on the ceiling. Progress is blocked here, as solid blocks act as a wall. The players must activate a Wow Bud underneath Rotating Blocks, which will cause the blocks to move out of the way and therefore allow more progress to be made. Afterwards are moving blocks on tracks, with big blue invisible blocks moving along with them. All of these blocks are above lava, with a Raargh in the middle of them. The players must then progress upwards using big blue invisible blocks moving on tracks, while also avoiding Buzzy Beetles spawning from pipes in the walls. Once at the top, there are three columns of big blue invisible blocks moving along rails that can potentially crush the players if they are not careful. The area to the right leads to the Goal Pole, but blue invisible blocks prevent access to it, and so the players must enter a nearby pipe to go underground. After falling between five rows of Raarghs, the players will find the first Checkpoint Flag.

Past the first Checkpoint Flag is a sea of lava that stretches to the second Checkpoint Flag. Close to the first Checkpoint Flag is a big block that has several blue invisible blocks stretching out across all four sides of it. A nearby Wow Bud will cause all of the blocks to rotate clockwise at a slow speed. There are then semisolid platforms with blue invisible blocks forming a bridge between them. Two Buzzy Beetles are found in this area, as well as a Long ? Block. These is then another big block in the lava with blue invisible blocks stretching out across all four sides. If the player equips the Add ! Blocks badge, six ! Blocks will appear in an arrangement of 3x1 platforms, which the player can jump on and wall-jump to a secret area with many coins and a flower coin.

A nearby Wow Bud will cause all blocks to rotate clockwise slowly after being activated. These blocks however will move to the right slowly as well, so the players must use these blocks to reach to semisolid platforms where the second Checkpoint Flag is.

Beyond the second Checkpoint Flag is a grid-like area where the Wonder Flower is. Upon obtaining it, the players will be able to walk on the background walls, but will also cause a ceiling of lava to slowly descend. The players must make it through a maze of blue invisible blocks while avoiding Raarghs as well as the descending lava. Later on in the maze there are big blue invisible blocks that move along tracks through the narrow areas. At the bottom of the maze in the Wonder Seed, and collecting it will end the Wonder Effect and also return the players to the start of the maze. A purple pipe at the bottom right of the maze will lead the players the Goal Pole, beyond the blue invisible blocks.

Hidden Character Blocks[edit]

  • A Nabbit Hidden Character Block can be found at the end of the first section, where the upward-moving blue invisible blocks are. It is floating five blocks above the middle of the highest Semisolid Platform. It contains three normal coins and two flower coins, which all shoot out of the block at once.
  • A Mario Hidden Character Block can be found at the entrance to the secret area where the third 10-flower coin is. It is located on the left side of the wavy blue invisible block arrangement, in the sharp corner of scaffolding nearby. It contains a 1-Up Mushroom.

10-flower coins[edit]

  • 10-flower coin 1: Found not far into the course, in the spot where the first Raargh is.
  • 10-flower coin 2: Found past the first Checkpoint Flag and right before the second. On the rotating block where many blue blocks can appear that travel across the lava, there are three Wow Buds in the air. The third one causes the 10-flower coin to appear below the semisolid platform where the second Checkpoint Flag is.
  • 10-flower coin 3: Found in an area above the second Checkpoint Flag. To get to that area, the players must be in Drill Form and burrow through the ceiling to reach to blue invisible blocks that can be used as platforms to reach the area. There are then four big blue invisible blocks guarding the coin, with a Raargh behind it. The players must drill beneath the blocks to bypass them and obtain the coin.

Enemies and obstacles[edit]

Talking Flower quotes[edit]

  • "Dead end here." (near the Goal Pole which is blocked by hidden blocks)
    • "Huh?!" (after using the pipe to the exit)
    • "How did you…?"
  • "Be careful." (At the Checkpoint flag where the second 10-flower coin is located)
    • "Hi again!" (after collecting the Wonder Seed during the Wonder Effect)
  • "Good luck!" (close to the third 10-flower coin)
