Tap-Tap the Red Nose is the mid-boss of World 6 in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island and its remake and the penultimate boss overall in the games. He was originally an ordinary Tap-Tap until Kamek cast a spell on him to make him grow gigantic. He walks and jumps towards Yellow Yoshi, trying to hit him with his spiky body. The arena where the battle takes place is made up of an Egg Plant on a platform, several layers of colorful, rectangular blocks - which can be destroyed by throwing eggs at them - and a pit of lava. Tap-Tap the Red Nose cannot be conventionally defeated by any of the Yoshi's attacks, but Yellow Yoshi can stun him and knock him backwards using thrown eggs. Even after the layer of lava is exposed, Tap-Tap the Red Nose will not voluntarily jump into it, so the Yoshi has to knock him into the pit. Tap-Tap the Red Nose will not voluntarily walk into the lava either; instead of doing so, he will worriedly frown and teeter on the edge of the lava, indicating an opportunity for Yellow Yoshi to throw an egg at him and knock him into the it.
Tap-Tap the Red Nose, like all the other bosses of Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, makes a cameo appearance in the introduction sequence of Yoshi's Island DS.

Naming[edit]
Etymology[edit]
The name "Tap-Tap the Red Nose" may be a reference to Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, as alluded to in his description in the Player's Guide for the SNES version.

Notes[edit]
- After finishing being imbued with Kamek's magic and before he starts to enlarge, Tap-Tap the Red Nose is briefly shown as a normal Tap-Tap with a unique bluish palette.
- While the Player's Guide for the GBA version implies that Tap-Tap the Golden is a resurrected Tap-Tap the Red Nose,[8] the Player's Guide for the SNES version suggests otherwise,[9] albeit by erroneously stating that Tap-Tap the Golden is located "beneath Red Nose's Fort."
- Tap-Tap the Red Nose is the only boss that Yellow Yoshi does not meet by entering a boss door.
- Tap-Tap's battle arena is similarly structured to Breakout, seeing as Yoshi has to break certain parts of the floor with eggs to knock him into the lava.
- The noise Tap-Tap the Red Nose makes when he sinks in the lava is the same as the Gargantua Blargg and Nep-Enut when they are hit with an egg.
- The battle with Tap-Tap the Red Nose can be considered an inversion of the battle with Bowser in Super Mario Bros. 3; instead of the boss breaking the floor and falling into the pit, the player has to break the blocks themselves. Furthermore, Bowser will launch himself into the pit with his own Ground Pound, while Tap-Tap the Red Nose must be knocked into it.
