The Super Mario Bros. 40th Anniversary is an ongoing event taking place since September 2025, celebrating 40 years since the release of Super Mario Bros. in 1985. The celebration was formally announced as part of the September 2025 Nintendo Direct, and follows the celebrations of the 20th, 25th, 30th, and 35th anniversaries of Super Mario Bros.

  • At the Nintendo Museum, the default design of the play tickets was changed for a year, starting from September 13, 2025, to one depicting the Super Mario Bros. 40th Anniversary logo. Other events for the anniversary include the release of the Nintendo Museum Official Book Vol. 01, the display of the Mario & Luigi Byōbu folding screen, and the addition of special lightning displays.[2]
  • On September 14, 2025, "Super Mario Day" was hosted at T-Mobile Park by the Seattle Mariners during the game against the Los Angeles Angels. Artwork from various Super Mario games was shown on the stadium's screens. The first 15,000 Mariners fans were given an exclusive cap for the occasion.[3]
  • A series of videos titled Super Mario: Guess the Game! was published on Nintendo Today! starting from September 14, 2025. The videos have viewers guess a Super Mario game from three clips from the game (each progressively making the game more obvious). On September 29, 2025, the videos started being shown on train systems in Japan, replacing the Pikmin: What's This? videos.[4][5][6]
  • On September 15, 2025, the soundtrack for Super Mario Galaxy 2 was made available on Nintendo Music following the announcement of Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2.[7] Later on October 1, 2025, the tracks "Good Night" (from the Nintendo Switch version of Super Mario Galaxy) alongside "Twins" and "Special Someone" (from the Nintendo Switch version of Super Mario Galaxy 2) were added to their respective games' soundtracks to coincide with the launch of Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2.[8]
  • The Super Mario Bros. 40th Anniversary logo is featured on the logo for the Kyoto Marathon 2026 (held on February 15), for which Nintendo is a Platinum Partner. The logo, as well as 8-bit sprites of Mario and Luigi, is also featured on the back of the marathon's bib.[9]
