Fawful, Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time

Fawful's Bean 'n' Badge is a shop run by Fawful in Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time. It is located in the present Peach's Castle Dungeon. Fawful does not take coins for his badges, but beans, as the shop's name implies.

History[edit]

When Mario, Luigi, Baby Mario, and Baby Luigi first arrive to the second room in Peach's Castle Dungeon, they see a cloaked figure walking to the next room. The quartet follows only to then see the figure enter a pipeline that the adult Mario and Luigi cannot enter. Baby Mario and Baby Luigi then use the Baby Drill to follow the cloaked figure to the end of the pipeline where a room unlike the rest of the sewers is found.

When Baby Mario and Baby Luigi arrive at the room and talk to the cloaked figure, Fawful's Bean 'n' Badge is introduced, with the cloaked figure being Fawful. The babies then ask about Fawful's story, with Fawful warning that the story is long. Fawful then asks if the story wants to be heard; if the player chooses to not listen to the story, then the shop will not open until it is heard. Once the story is heard, the shop opens, allowing the player to trade beans for badges, learn about beans, as well as sell consumable items, Bros. Items, and gear items for coins.

If the player decides to learn about beans, Fawful will explain how to find and get them. Beans are found underground in spots that are marked with an "X"; drilling and emerging under one of these spots will give a bean. Fawful then says "There are even places to win beans in games, maybe...", hinting at a minigame in Thwomp Caverns being the method to get beans once all beans are unearthed.

If Baby Mario and Baby Luigi visit the shop before the player uses the time hole to Gritzy Desert, then when exiting the shop menus, Fawful has a vision that he tells the babies: "The castle viewing platform... A new path for your finding... A new path...of DOOM!". This vision Fawful has is hinting at the location of the Gritzy Desert time hole on the second floor of Peach's Castle. The vision is likely a hint to lead players back to the story after exploring Peach's Castle Dungeon.

Fawful's story[edit]

Before being able to shop at Fawful's Bean 'n' Badge, Fawful's story must be heard.

I am here, merchant of badges, only sometimes with fury, but I once had fury at all times. I drizzled rage dressing on the country next door. Rage dressing on a salad of evil! And then the bad men came. Red and green bad men. I had the punishment. Bad punishment with hammers and jumping on my head and the overheat of my ship. I have a little fury even with my remembering... Red! And green! A pair of jumping hammers in red and green who are looking like you! I HAVE FURY! Those brothers of badness! My brain aches at their overalls! I have fury AND headache now! Fawful would be here, reigning over all and laughing at you! ...But no. SO MUCH FURY! Stupid mustaches! Hairs like the dirty tail of a horse in a barn built by a farmer who is crazy! ...I have calm.

After the previous part of the story, Fawful takes off the red cloak he is wearing to reveal his appearance and white suit.

I am waiting like an elevator. I have the commerce. I run Fawful's Bean 'n' Badge, but... The day comes soon when Fawful rises again, and then no baby's candy has safety! I am counting chickens before they are even eggs, before the chickens are even chickens! I WILL! HAVE! FURY! I LAUGH AT DEFEAT! I FIGHT WITH RAGE! I HURT YOUR FACES!

After the previous part of the story, Fawful falls to his knees with a textbox saying "Hooof... Heffff...", before he gets up and continues.

D-Did I...Have insanity? Did I...have evil? I suppress the fury, but sometimes... The fury has me. Red and green puts the fog of rage in my eyes, and my mind goes crazy. P-Please... I will be fine. No worrying for Fawful. We talk of beans. Beans and badges... We begin trading!

Fawful's story talks about the events of the previous game Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, where Fawful assisted Cackletta in attempting to take over the Beanbean Kingdom. The part of the story where Fawful mentions "the overheat of my ship" refers to Mario and Luigi's battle with Fawful at Bowser's Castle, where he hides in a metal dome-like ship during the fight. While the appearance of Baby Mario and Baby Luigi reminds Fawful of his encounters with the adult Mario and Luigi, Fawful is unaware that the babies actually are Mario and Luigi. Near the end of the story, Fawful talks about how a day will come soon where "Fawful rises again" in which "no baby's candy has safety". This is foreshadowing the next game in the series, Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story.
