The Guard's hat pin is an item in the DOS and Deluxe versions of Mario is Missing!. It depicts the traditionally Communist symbol of the hammer and sickle (although despite what its image shows, it also sits on top of a red star), and it is worn on the hats of those guarding Lenin's Tomb. A single one of these is stolen from one of the guards by some invading Koopa Troopas, causing the entire tomb to be closed off to the public. Luigi then acquires it from a wandering Koopa Troopa, and sets out to find the pin's original location by asking Moscow's various locals. He eventually learns that he needs to return it to Lenin's Tomb, and he does so through its information booth, receiving an award of $1275.

Information[edit]

  • Boy: "They'll be tickled--they've really missed that hammer and sickle and have been searching the tomb for it all day."
  • Tourist: "Go directly to Red Square, do not collect 200 rubles there. Doesn't the guard's cap look bare?"
  • Reporter: "It's a hat pin from the guard in front of Lenin's Tomb."
  • Scientist: "Lenin was the first leader of the Soviets after the revolution. That became their symbol and all the guards wear it."
  • Policewoman: "I'm afraid the Kremlin is tremblin'. They want the guard's hammer and sickle pin back."

Trivia[edit]

  • The tourist's comment about going to Red Square and not collecting money is a reference to the "Go Directly to Jail" card from the board game Monopoly.
