Hello readers! As I'm sure you've noticed by now, we've gone all Wario themed for this issue. Now, believe it or not, but Wario plays a big part in Pipe Plaza, mainly because he's currently stuck in one of the pipes, and we've been unable to get him out. I do apologise that this is slightly later than usual, but sadly I haven't had a lot of time to work on this this month. I was either doing a work experience placement, or trapped in a place with no internet, which for a 21st century kid is a fate worse than death!

Sadly, our second favourite Yoshi has retired from The 'Shroom. Paper Yoshi (talk) has a great asset to the paper, and we must remember how he ran Pipe Plaza very well for many years. He was great contributor, boss, and most importantly friend. We had a small banter when we co-edited together, and I wish him the very best in life. He will be sorely missed from our pages.

We may not have gotten as much votes as we did last month, but we still got plenty of votes in our Polls have opened for favourite sub-team, so do remember to vote Pipe Plaza. We were within inches of second place last time, let's aim for there before we begin trying to take down Fake News, I know we can do it.

Tip of the Month

Written by: FunkyK38 (talk)

Something that can be confusing to new members of the Wiki is the Proposals page. Have an idea to propose and not sure where to put it? If it's a small edit, like moving a page or merging two pages together, then you can put it on the Talk page of the article you wish to alter. You can keep track of the deadlines for these type of proposals on the list of Talk page proposals on the main Proposals page. Want to suggest a major change that can alter the way the Wiki works? That's the type of thing to put on the main Proposals page, under the category that it fits best.

A proposal to merge {{Yoshi forms}} into {{Yoshis}}, or to remove the transformation section from {{Yoshis}}. The proposer argues that these two navigation templates are confusing and it seems that {{Yoshis}} is mainly focused on providing navigation between different-colored Yoshis, not necessarily different Yoshi transformations.

Nintendo Switch:

Greetings, everyone, and holy dang that E3! So many awesome games revealed and shown off this past week, from another Warriors game, AM2R Returns, Go, Go, Stretchy Arms, more of the anime Pokémon fights, and, of course, the main event staring the big man himself, Super Mario Galaxy 3! Please note that I love all these games and I'm poking fun at them because I love them.

We got little tidbits of Super Mario Odyssey after its initial reveal with the Nintendo Switch back in October, but E3 hit us hard with a bunch of new information! Firstly, if you didn't already know, Odyssey aims to bring back the platforming days of Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Sunshine. What that means is that the worlds are large and have several different things in it with multiple areas to explore, unlike Super Mario Galaxy's broken up planets with linear progress. Whether that's your cup of tea or not is entirely up to you. However, while the game may be based on the one that helped shape the 3D platforming industry, it also looks like something entirely new.

E3 2017 screenshot of Mario controlling a T-Rex in the Cascade Kingdom of Super Mario Odyssey.
You can be a freaking T-Rex!

Let's take a look at Mario's newest ability in Odyssey: possessing creatures and objects! Want Mario to become a Goomba? You can! Want Mario to become a taxi? You can! Want Mario to become a tyrannosaurus rex? You absolutely can! Mario's newest ally, called Cappy, allows Mario to possess a majority of the living creatures or inanimate objects in the worlds to help solve puzzles or to simply get to where he needs to go. Not sure how far to an extent this newfound ability can go (I'm guessing you can't possess Bowser, for example), but it certainly opens up new horizons.

The Broodals, a quartet of bunny characters in Super Mario Odyssey.
Also, there are evil rabbits.

Cappy can be used for more than just taking control of unwilling subjects, he can be helpful in platforming and battles, too! Throwing him will cause him to act like a boomerang, reaching a set distance then returning to Mario, damaging any enemies in his path. He can also be held in mid-air and act as a supporting platform, or to use to collect Coins. That's one cool cap! He can also be thrown using the motion controls, which effects how he performs! One more feature of Cappy's, that also extends to Mario himself, are various costumes. Purchasing them with the currency found in each respective world and going back to your giant cap spaceship to change will give our heroes a different look, without affecting their abilities at all. ...As far as we know, anyway. That may change between now and the time the game is released. The game is also compatible with amiibo, which will unlock other outfits, possibly at random. There will also be three more amiibo based on the formal attire of Mario, Peach, and Bowser (add that to the new Metroid and Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions amiibo and, well, there goes my nonexistent paycheck).

Pauline with her band in Super Mario Odyssey.
From damsel in distress to toy aficionado to lead singer and mayor of the city named after her captor, Pauline's come a long way.
E3 2017 screenshot of 8-bit Mario in the Tostarena Ruins of the Sand Kingdom in Super Mario Odyssey.
Let's-a go!

Speaking of the giant cap spaceship, that appears to be Mario's main method of getting around. Sometime after Bowser kidnaps Princess Peach and forces her to marry him (again), Mario meets up with Cappy, who I assume provides Mario with the ship he needs. But the ship appears to missing some fuel and is currently resting in New Donk City. Can you guess what power source that is? Well, if you guessed Power Stars, you'd be wrong. Instead, the primary collectables appear to be called Power Moons. They act in mostly the same way, except it appears that instead of getting forced out of the level, there's a certain number to collect in each world you can collect all in one go! That'll make things go by faster. There's a certain number of Power Moons that are needed to be collected before you can go on to another world, as only by collecting enough of them can you actually power the ship and cause it to go anywhere. The worlds, by the way, are large. Very large. The apparent hub world of New Donk City (which is apparently run by none other than Mario's original love interest, Pauline) is full of buildings, the desert is frozen over, and the forest is full of construction drones.

Thoughts

A lot of new info was dropped during E3, and it just makes me want to play this game more! While it was developed based on Super Mario 64 rather than Super Mario Galaxy, it appears to be more of a mixture of both (kinda like how Super Mario 3D Land was a mixture of Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Bros. 3). Assuming I can get a Nintendo Switch by then, I'll definitely pick up this game when it releases in October, or I can get the inevitable Switch bundle that could release then or during Christmas. Until next time! I'll leave you with this disturbing image.

Poll Committee Discussion

by Lord Bowser (talk)

Greetings, 'Shroom readers! This is Lord Bowser here with a new edition of Poll Committee Discussion! I was so close to being able to dodge writing this section entirely, but Andymii forced me to at gunpoint. Note to self: never mess with a Mii...

Poll Committee News

This month is June, which means it's time to elect the new Poll Committee Chairperson! The election details may be found here. Good luck to everyone running! This time of year additionally means the term of the seventh Poll Committee will soon be coming to a close. While my time in the Poll Committee this year was short, it was definitely a fun experience and I would be much more than willing to be a part of it again. I wish the best of luck to all of the committee members for the next term!

Analysis

  • Are you still playing Super Mario Run? -- The results for this poll weren't very surprising. After the sharp rise and fall of Pokémon GO during the summer of last year, I fully expected Super Mario Run to meet the same fate, and according to our poll results, that expectation was met. Over a third of our voters never even touched it, and another third downloaded it but don't play it anymore. While Nintendo's experiments with mobile gaming prove very financially successful for them, with games like Pokémon GO, Super Mario Run, and Fire Emblem Heroes, they all seem to run into a recurring problem; lack of longevity. All three of these games had a huge surge in popularity for their first few weeks, then just as quickly died off, and Super Mario Run was no exception.
  • Which is your favorite Battle Mode in the Mario Kart series? -- While Balloon Battle coming in first was pretty much a given due to both its gameplay and its inclusion in every main Mario Kart game, seeing Renegade Roundup take the second-place spot so quickly after the release of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (its debut game) shows that the revamped battle system within the game has been very well-liked as of now. As I don't own Mario Kart 8 Deluxe myself, I can't speak for or against its gameplay, though I do know it's essentially Mario Kart's take on Cops & Robbers, which does sound pretty fun. As long as it does well, then that's just more reason for me to eventually buy a Switch. I was a little saddened to see Bob-omb Blast not getting all the love it deserves, though... :(
  • What item from the platforming Mario games would you like to see reused in future Mario Kart titles? -- This was a more creative poll, with a variety of different answers. The Double Cherry idea seemed to be the most popular idea, even though it won less than a quarter of the total vote; this shows how divisive the answers were. While I would certainly be interested in seeing how this would work, Poochy knows how the Mario Kart devs would manage to get this going without massively slowing down the framerate. The Rock Mushroom also sounds like a good idea; I would see it as a successor to the Mega Mushroom item from Mario Kart Wii, or perhaps a better Bowser's Shell from Mario Kart: Double Dash!!. Either way, this would be complete, total chaos on courses like Baby Park... and I would love it to bits.
  • Do you have the MarioWiki Main Page bookmarked? -- About 60% of our voters responded "yes" to having the Main Page bookmarked, with an additional 5.5% having other parts of the wiki bookmarked. With so many dedicated editors keeping the wiki looking nice and sharp, it was essentially a given that the wiki would be one of their bookmarks in order to provide easy access. I personally have the wiki Main Page and the forums bookmarked, though I often don't even use those bookmarks as I tend to just click the buttons for the wiki/forums, or just type them in my search bar.
  • What are you most excited to see during Nintendo's E3 conferences? -- It was no surprise seeing Super Mario Odyssey being voted the most by far, though admittedly its lead was somewhat smaller than expected. I was thinking it would be up in the 60-70% range, but it just barely made 50%. Anyway, this shows that while Super Mario Odyssey is still at the front of many people's minds with E3, it hasn't completely overshadowed the other exciting aspects of the show, such as revealing more games for the Switch and general Mario news; I know many of us want further information on games such as Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle and Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga DX, and I'm one of them. However, my vote went to news on other non-Mario titles, as there are other series that can hype me up even more than Mario at this point... when's mother 3 localization

And that's it for this edition of Poll Committee Discussion. Stay tuned for next month, where Tucayo and Andymii will be taking the reins, and be sure to vote in the Poll Committee Chairperson election!

Retro Feature

Written by: Yoshi876 (talk)
Hello, readers! I'm your Spotlight manager and Pipe Plaza Director, Yoshi876. Welcome to Retro Feature, a section in which I delve deep into the archives to bring you the best blasts from the past. This time I bring you a section from Coincollector.

We have already covered one of Coincollector's sections before, so we won't have to go into much detail, in fact I believe it was a Mario Kart: Wheel Tips Corner that we covered as well. I thought I'd put a little background into why I chose this particular section. It's because this month, I faced the same issue as Coincollector, with time being incredibly short. I probably could have improved some of my sections, and maybe it would have been better if I'd done with Coincollector had done instead in Issue XLIV.

Mario Kart: Wheel Tips Corner

by Coincollector (talk)

Due to University and education issues, I, your friend Coincollector, am not able to give you the Mario Kart tip of this month. Sorry. I hope all you good readers can understand this situation. But fasten your seatbelts, because I’ll give you more and new information in Mario Kart: Wheel Tips Corner next month. See ya!

A big game of Mafia, with the typical Innocent and Mafia factions, as well as some possible Independents and Third Parties. The game doesn't necessarily feature a specific theme, so one can expect any character from any media as a role.
Extra gimmicks consist of a location system, items, economy and some status effects.
