World 8-Fortress NSMB.pngTower2 is the penultimate level and second tower level of World 8 in New Super Mario Bros.. It becomes accessible after completing World 8-8. It is the last tower level of the game, and the second-to-last level overall.

This level is based around Snake Blocks, similar to the design of World 7-Castle NSMB.png. There are also Spiked Balls and Fire Bars found throughout the level to impede the player's progress.

The level starts off on solid ground. Walking forwards will reveal the Snake Blocks, which will then travel in a staircase-like pattern through a group of Fire Bars. The blocks will then pass through a narrow corridor covered in spikes, also containing Fire Bars; as the spikes will not allow the player to jump, they must instead stall with good timing to avoid the Fire Bars and also not fall off the blocks onto the spikes below. Afterwards, the blocks travel upwards, heading into another spiky narrow corridor. Past this second corridor is the level's midway point.

After the midway point, the blocks will continuously loop around over a floor covered in spikes. There is a Red Ring available here. Eventually the blocks will head upwards in another staircase pattern, and then head right through another corridor with Fire Bars. The blocks will then turn sharply upwards, with a Spiked Ball suddenly rushing out and hitting the blocks as they ascend. The blocks will then turn left and loop again, along with a second Spiked Ball landing on them. They will then ascend upwards again, and the player must be careful to avoid additional Spiked Balls and spiked walls as they do so. After one last steep ascension, they will collapse in front of the boss door.

Beyond the boss door is Bowser Jr., in his last solo fight. He is fought on a standard arena, though Lava Bubbles will continuously rise up and fall down on both ends. He cannot be jumped on, though he will take damage from shells and fireballs from Fire Mario. After three shells or ten fireballs, he will retreat for the last time. Upon his defeat, another bridge is built outside of the castle; this will lead to World 8-Bowser Castle NSMB.png, the final level of the game.

Star Coins[edit]

  • Star Coin 1: In the spiked corridor right before the midway point; it is in a gap between the spikes on the ceiling.
  • Star Coin 2: Above the Fire Bar corridor past the Red Ring; it is found in its own corridor, and the player must jump towards it from the Snake Blocks.
  • Star Coin 3: Near the end of the level; found on the ledge where the last Spiked Ball drops from.
