Welcome 'Shroom readers to this May edition of Pipe Plaza.

We start with bad news as Time Turner (talk) has been fired from the New Articles position due to not sending his sections in. However, on the plus side a certain interview section has made its way back into our humble statistic centre, so I hope you enjoy reading that!

Monthly Report

Written by: Paper Yoshi (talk)

Hello, everyone, and welcome to the May Issue of Monthly Report! Once again, no news on this section, so let's see how the current stats compare to the ones from April!

(Credit goes to Stooben Rooben (talk), Super Mario Bros. (talk), and Viper26 (talk) for the table coding (I based this on Stooben's coding, which was later modified by SMB, myself, and Viper26 when each one of us wrote this section)

Tip of the Month

Written by: FunkyK38 (talk)

Having trouble making redirects to games? Most of the time, names of games here are the shortest possible. For example: you probably won't find a correct link to "Mario And Luigi: Superstar Saga" However, I know "Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga" exists in your search bar. If you have trouble with titles, try subbing in that '&' sign and see how it goes.

Analysis

  • Favorite Super Mario 3D World Character: The people like Rosalina. Not much else I can deduce from these results. Were Waluigi playable, I'm sure there would've been a big difference. Grave mistake, Nintendo. Grave mistake.
  • Which game would you like to receive DLC?: lol good luck with that
  • Favorite Mario Strikers Charged Sidekick: Here we see the danger in making polls about spin-off games that are nine years old. I mean, most of the voters are probably younger than this game.
  • Mario Kart weight classes: Political apathy in motion.

Come back next month, when, uhh...somebody else will be doing this! I'm not really sure who, but it definitely won't be me!

Banjo 'N' Gutseh's Late-Night Actually Legit Interviews

Written by: Banjonator1 (talk) and GutsehMan (talk)

<banjonator1>: Hello, and welcome to the triumphant return of Banjo and Gutseh's [...] Interviews!
<GutsehMan>: is there a reason we've replaced late night with [...]
<Meta_Knight>: how would i know
<banjonator1>: We're happy to resume asking inane questions, doing dumb banter, and pretending that what we do constitutes actual interviews
<banjonator1>: and yes gutseh
<banjonator1>: a. there's a lot of words that i don't remember the exact order of that goes in there and b. half of our interviews arent even late night
<GutsehMan>: well i suppose we should you know, get to our guest or so
<GutsehMan>: say hi guest!!!
<Meta_Knight>: hi!
GutsehMan yawns
<GutsehMan>: man not doing this for a couple of months really
<GutsehMan>: really gives you some rust
<banjonator1>: Oh yeah that's right
<banjonator1>: our first guest of our...resyndication?
<banjonator1>: is meta knight!
<banjonator1>: Meta Knight is currently co hosting Battlestar Galactica mafia with Anton and things are not ok
<Meta_Knight>: things have gotten rather chaotic ever since day 4
<banjonator1>: meta knight your first question is who is the godfather
<banjonator1>: you have to answer
<banjonator1>: rules of interview
<Meta_Knight>: sometimes i wonder if i'm hosting a mafia or a sitcom
<Meta_Knight>: marlon brando is the godfather
<GutsehMan>: well damn he's not wrong
<Meta_Knight>: if you want to know the godfather in bsg mafia
<Meta_Knight>: you'll have to lynch them first
<banjonator1>: okie dokie
<banjonator1>: anyway, real question i guess
<banjonator1>: What do you figure people know you best for in the community?
<Meta_Knight>: i'm not really sure honestly
<Meta_Knight>: i'm positive that i'm not infamous though
<Meta_Knight>: so i can be satisfied with that
<Meta_Knight>: if people know me best for something
<Meta_Knight>: it may be for the fact that i'm kind of everywhere
<banjonator1>: yeah, ive noticed that
<banjonator1>: you've built up a pretty great presence in the community!
<Meta_Knight>: thanks!
<banjonator1>: Gutseh, your turn
<GutsehMan>: well i mean my question might be a hint uninformed because i haven't been around to see it much but
<GutsehMan>: generally the mood i'm seeing out of the boards is that mafia has created a bit of a toxic environment
<GutsehMan>: some people might take it too seriously, etc
<banjonator1>: thats a good point
<Meta_Knight>: believe me i've noticed
<banjonator1>: i've seen like
<banjonator1>: a ton of people kind of turning away from mafia
<banjonator1>: just like, any thoughts on that you'd like to share?
<Meta_Knight>: there has been a lot of drama around the board lately
<Meta_Knight>: i won't go into too much into details of the underground
<Meta_Knight>: and i won't go and point at people
<Meta_Knight>: but there have been concerns with mafia in general
<Meta_Knight>: for instance, people are bashing/things like that
<Meta_Knight>: it may all be unintentional
<Meta_Knight>: its important to remember its just a game
<Meta_Knight>: i guess if i have to say something about it
<Meta_Knight>: perhaps we need to take a look at it more like any other sports team
<Meta_Knight>: and make sure people are just in it for fun
<Meta_Knight>: when people take it too seriously
<Meta_Knight>: it can be a bit off turning
<banjonator1>: I completely agree
<banjonator1>: anyway, moving on from that before ~drama~ unfolds
<banjonator1>: I have a question i guess
<Meta_Knight>: i have an answer
<Meta_Knight>: whether or not its a good answer idk
<banjonator1>: This is kind of a recurring thing I like to ask on this program
<banjonator1>: because it's always relevant and everyone has their own thoughts on it
<banjonator1>: also, because it's not specific to any user, i can recycle it with absolutely no guilt!!!
<banjonator1>: where do you see the community in the future, and do you think you'll still be part of it?
<banjonator1>: also, you said previously you don't know if youre really known for anything
<banjonator1>: is there something you'd like to be known for?
Packy bangs on the outside door
<Packy>: HEY, I WANT IN ON THIS
Packy is dragged away by security guards
<Meta_Knight>: well
<Meta_Knight>: i do not know for certain where the community will be
<Meta_Knight>: i do know though
<Meta_Knight>: i cannot be around forever
<Meta_Knight>: i will have to leave at some point
<Meta_Knight>: something i always wonder and kind of fear
<Meta_Knight>: is who will leave first
banjonator1 calls security on packy
<banjonator1>: go on
<Meta_Knight>: will i end up leaving
<Meta_Knight>: or will my friends leave before me
<banjonator1>: that's kind of something i think about too
<Meta_Knight>: i mean some users are in their mid 20s
<Meta_Knight>: by the time i get there
<Meta_Knight>: they will be in their 30s
<Meta_Knight>: it is a possibility but i see it unlikely that they would still be here at that point
<Meta_Knight>: this also means that there needs to be some new users around to keep the community alive
<Meta_Knight>: but we don't have that
<Meta_Knight>: so i worry that i won't be remembered for anything
<Meta_Knight>: but if anything
<Meta_Knight>: i know that i have made an impact on people's lives
<Meta_Knight>: and that's all that matters to me
<banjonator1>: very good answer!
<banjonator1>: we have like
<Meta_Knight>: sorry for getting too deep lol
<banjonator1>: no it's ok!
<banjonator1>: i was saying we have interviews that go more silly
<banjonator1>: and banter-y
<banjonator1>: and then we have some that are more cathartic
<banjonator1>: and this is definitely one of them, heh
<Meta_Knight>: yay
<banjonator1>: gutseh, do you have anything?
<GutsehMan>: well
<GutsehMan>: to kinda switch subjects really
<GutsehMan>: with good ol' E3 coming around the corner
<GutsehMan>: what are you hoping for at E3?
<Meta_Knight>: i don't have any hopes for e3
<Meta_Knight>: if anything i'm more excited for steam summer sales
<Meta_Knight>: but honestly
<Meta_Knight>: nintendo won't have much
<Meta_Knight>: i don't care about microsoft
<Meta_Knight>: i don't have a ps4
<Meta_Knight>: i mean really i am not a fan of federation force or color splash
<Meta_Knight>: i may be excited for sun and moon
<Meta_Knight>: but at the same time
<Meta_Knight>: im not looking forward to $80 bucks out the window
<Meta_Knight>: if anything at e3, i just want something good
<GutsehMan>: well with all that in mind lemme rephrase it a little
<GutsehMan>: what do you think of nintendo's plan to only show zelda
? <Meta_Knight>: not a great plan
<Meta_Knight>: i mean i love zelda
<Meta_Knight>: but one game isn't enough to make a stellar performance
<Meta_Knight>: look at e3 2013
<Meta_Knight>: there was both mario kart 8, and smash 4
<Meta_Knight>: if there was only one revealed it still would've been great
<Meta_Knight>: but they did both to maximize wii u sales and the hype
<banjonator1>: i'm like
<banjonator1>: excited for zelda i guess...?
<banjonator1>: i'm horrified they'll pull the rug out from under us and be like
<banjonator1>: "lol, sorry its just nx"
<Meta_Knight>: yeah that is a big concern for me too
<GutsehMan>: well they announced it to be for both but like
<Meta_Knight>: its like they don't even care about the wii u anymore
<GutsehMan>: let's just put it into perspective: zelda u was shown off in 2014
<Meta_Knight>: but it feels... too soon for me still
<GutsehMan>: and teased as early as mid-2013 i wanna say
<Meta_Knight>: i mean smash 4 is only like a year old
<Meta_Knight>: and there's no doubt that as soon as the nx is out smash will be developed right away
<GutsehMan>: so we've effectively been in the wait for a game that's not only 4 years old
<GutsehMan>: but it's not even exclusive to that system
<Meta_Knight>: yeah
<Meta_Knight>: it will basically be like twilight princess
<Meta_Knight>: but if you look at how that went
<Meta_Knight>: do you know more people that have the wii version or the gamecube version
<GutsehMan>: absolutely the wii version considering it was a launch title
GutsehMan suddenly realizes
<GutsehMan>: .../oh/
<Meta_Knight>: exactly
<banjonator1>: woah
<banjonator1>: anyway, i think that does it, unless you guys have some closing words?
<Meta_Knight>: i can't believe i was interviewed despite not even signing up!
<banjonator1>: all i have to say is thank you for being such a fantastic guest!
<Meta_Knight>: what a generous offer
<banjonator1>: mk don't worry
<Meta_Knight>: and thanks!
<banjonator1>: don't tell anyone but
<Packy>: you're welcome!
<Packy>: glad to be here
Packy is dragged off again
<Meta_Knight>: packy get out
<banjonator1>: (the sign up sheet doesnt mean anything )
<banjonator1>: packy get out
<Packy>: ;-;
Packy gets out
<GutsehMan>: are we ever gonna interview packy
<Meta_Knight>: interview him whenever his birthday month is
<banjonator1>: we interviewed packy back in '14
<banjonator1>: those were dark times
<banjonator1>: we don't talk about those times
<Meta_Knight>: i wasn't even around most of then so
<banjonator1>: anyway, goodnight!

Forum Report

Written by: MrConcreteDonkey (talk)

Jesus christ. This must be, like, the MCD edition of Pipe Plaza, or something.

Statistics

That's right, we're starting with the stats again. Unfortunately, the Mario Boards have reached their news quota for this year. See you in 2017!

In April, 191 topics were created and 7918 posts were made. 15 new members joined. The most people online at once was 207, which is the lowest so far this year.

TOP POSTERS

TOP TOPIC STARTERS

MOST TIME ONLINE

(Bold means new entry and Italics mean inactive for at least the past month. Bold and Italics should immediately be reported to the police.)

Thread of the Month

HEY GUYS, HOW MANY LIKES CAN WE GIVE THIS POST?!, by Kirstie Maldonado (Palkia47 (talk)) and Mario versus FanFiction, by Dr Alphys (Gabumon (talk)), both win Thread of the Month this month.

The first slowly documents Packy's descent into GIF-related madness as a result of the introduction of the like system. Be sure to visit the thread to like every post but his.

The second is a screenshot Let's Play of Super Paper Mario, which offers a very critical (and very funny) look at the game and its elements (especially the story). It's also got a lot of really great extra touches, such as drawings interspersed with screenshots from the game, or extra dialogue.

Quotes

  • "If I were to start a punk rock band, I'd probably name it Judeo-Christian Imams." - Crocodile Dippy
  • "that question is impossible to answer because if i add "how often am i thinking about goats" to the list of things i think about, it will decrease the amount of time i spend thinking about goats" - 2257, on how often he thinks about goats
  • "Why don't you love me like you love the other children?" - Palkia47

Mafia

Currently ongoing are Stooben's 'Shroom Mafia III,, Baby Mario Bloops' Steven Universe Mafia and Anton and Meta Knight's Battlestar Galactica Mafia.

Nyrie's Meme(ish) Mafia (Lounge) was won by the Innocents.

Thanks for reading.

RECENTLY PASSED PROPOSALS:

Proposer Summary Outcome Deadline
Wildgoosespeeder (talk) Stricter Image Quality Tag Policy, Additional Image Quality Sub-templates and Dividing Images in Category:Images to be reuploaded with higher quality into Subcategories.

Proposal to create additional rules and categories for image quality. The proposer argues that there isn't much of a definition for image quality and that currently this leaves too much room for interpretation, which can lead to conflicts.

CANCELLED BY PROPOSER (read more) April 11, 2016, 23:59
Roy Koopa (talk) Merge all YWW (X) Patch Articles with their Non-Patch Articles.

Proposal to merge patch enemies from Yoshi's Woolly World with their non-patch enemies. The proposer argues that the patch versions are the same as the originals and one minor difference is not enough to warrant separate articles.

1-8 (read more) April 18, 2016, 23:59
Baby Luigi (talk) Create a template for proposal outcomes.

Proposal to create a template to make coding of proposal outcomes easier. The proposer argues that the current coding is repetitive and cumbersome to remember every single time we need to archive a proposal, which has resulted in inconsistent headers. This proposal, if passed, will also remove the Comic Sans font and replace it with Verdana.

11-0 (read more) April 26, 2016, 23:59
Bazooka Mario (talk) Reorganize species designations in Koopa (species) and Koopa Troopa.

Proposal to reorganize the Koopa (species) and Koopa Troopa pages. The proposer argues that there has been confusion surrounding the Koopas as a group of turtle-like creatures and the Koopa Troopa species and this proposal, if passed, will clear up the confusion between Koopas and Koopa Troopas which lead to illogical statements such as assuming Bowser or Lakitu are types of Koopa Troopa.

Wildgoosespeeder (talk) Vote for more than one option on proposals with more than two choices.

Proposal to let users vote for more than one option if a proposal has more than two choices. The proposer argues that there are fairness concerns with this method and give an example to understand this usage.

Proposer Summary Outcome Deadline
Baby Luigi (talk) Split Spiny Fish from Spiny Cheep Cheep.

Wildgoosespeeder (talk) Make an Exception to Embed YouTube Videos on Glitch Pages.

Proposal to allows to embed videos on Glitch pages. The proposer argues that Youtube videos would be useful for Glitches, because some glitches are hard to perform just by reading the procedure and it would be beneficial to watch a demonstration, especially if precision or timing is concerned.

AfternoonLight (talk) Move Chilly Waters and others to all-caps names.

Proposal to move Battle Royal boards of Mario Party 3 to all caps letter (eg: Chilly Waters to CHILLY WATERS). The proposer argues that if the duel boards can be written as capital letters than the Battle Royale boards can be written in capital letters too.

MarioKid (talk) Merge Rainbow Star with Super Star.

Proposal to merge Rainbow Star, an item that appear in Super Mario Galaxy and its sequel with Super Star. The proposer argues that the music and the actual effect are the same and that the Rainbow Star is basically a renamed, stylized Super Star.

RickTommy (talk) Move Gate Guy and others to all-caps names.

Proposal to move duels boards of Mario Party 3 to all caps letters (eg: Gate Guy to GATE GUY). The proposer argues that the names of the duel boards in Mario Party 3 are written in all-caps in-games and in the manual. Per MarioWiki:Naming, this makes them their official names.

ONGOING TALK PAGE PROPOSALS:

LudwigVon (talk) Merge Green Star (Super Mario 3D World) with Green Star.

Proposal to merge Green Star (Super Mario 3D World), a green collectible star from Super Mario 3D World with Green Star, a green collectible star from Super Mario Galaxy and its sequel. The proposer argues that this two items are not different enough to be split and there are various items that have been merged together even if they have different functions from game to game and if we split them by function it will start to create inconsistency.

First article: Mario Kart: Wheel Tips Corner, Issue XXVI
Last article: Special Section, Issue 100
Sections Written: Main Team: 2
Positions held: Contributor

Hello, readers! I'm your Spotlight manager and Pipe Plaza Director, Yoshi876. Welcome to Retro Feature, a section in which I delve deep into the archives to bring you the best blasts from the past. This time I bring a section from a well-known member: Castle Toad.

Castle Toad joined the wiki on 30 March 2009 and he joined The 'Shroom in Issue XXVIII, which was released on July 11th 2009, writing MK: WTC for the main team. This would; however, be his sole contribution to The 'Shroom, until we got the special issue that was Issue 100 where he contributed Castle Toad's Chatty Throwback, a reflection of past and current Mario memories.

Whilst Castle Toad didn't contribute much to The 'Shroom, he did contribute toward other parts of the wiki. On 4th September 2010, he was promoted to a Chatroom Op for the #userpedia chatroom, and only eight days later he was made an op on #mwchat. He also made a name for himself over on Userpedia, where he was promotoed to the position of Patroller on 7th November 2010, and then to the sysop position on 21st November 2010.

However, you're not here for the history of Castle Toad, you're here to view an old section from years gone by, so today I bring you Castle Toad's MK: WTC from Issue XXVIII!!

Mario Kart: Wheel Tips Corner

by Castle Toad (talk)

Hello, welcome to the Mario Kart Wheel Tips Corner... back to you this month as a special edition due to last month's abscence. So, this time, we're going to take a look at... the diaper characters, the Greedy-fatso's bike, the old-style item, and some Lava courses...

The Characters, the diaper racers, on this special edition, we're taking a deep look at the Babies, starting with:

Baby Mario

Artwork of Baby Mario with his kart from Mario Kart Wii

First appearing behind the Wheel in Mario Kart:Double Dash!!, being a small character, let's take a look at his stats:

Thanks to his light weight his off-road is good, so don't worry about being stuck in grass or sand, even if his top speed is low, his acceleration is great, so you won't be afected so much if you got hit by an item, also to let worries behind, his Chain Chomp will smash, and let you pass over any kind of obstacles, pulling your kart untill he tires... be carefull where the chain breaks, or your race will stay worse. His course is the Baby Park. He reappears in Mario Kart Wii, same as in MK:DD!! he lacks of Top speed, but his acceleration is great, let's see his stats:

  • Size: Small
  • Bonuses:
  • Weight: +3
  • Handling: +2

Red and blue are his Kart's scheme colors, he got a good weight bonus, but be careful, to not mess with the heavy guys, or you'll be bounced away, and so thanks to his Handling bonus it's easier to take sharp turns using bikes or karts.

Baby Luigi

Artwork of Baby Luigi with his kart from Mario Kart Wii

Baby Luigi's debut appearance is on Mario Kart: Double Dash!! sharing stats with his older brother, but having his kart as a unlockable one...

Sharing not only partnership with his older brother, also the Chain Chomp, and the Buggies. And his stats for Mario Kart Wii are like this:

  • Size: Small
  • Bonuses:
  • Speed: +2
  • Weight: +3

He seems to be the owner of Sherbet Land since his ghost is the one there. The two brothers can be light sized, but they can be annoying if they want to, just don't get angry at them or maybe they will cry.

Baby Peach

Artwork of Baby Peach with her kart from Mario Kart Wii

The Mushroom Kingdom ruler loves to race since she was a baby, let's take a look at her stats:

  • Size: Small
  • Bonuses:
  • Speed: +1
  • Weight: +2
  • Acceleration: +1
  • Handling: +1

She seems to be a calm baby, but she can be a good racer, even while lacking of top Speed, she can use her acceleration to her own advantage, just keep an eye on her, and maybe you'll be fine. Her Course is Peach Gardens

Baby Daisy

Artwork of Baby Daisy with her kart from Mario Kart Wii

Baby Daisy's First appearance is on Mario Kart Wii, as an unlockable character, she is good at speed even while being small.. let's see her stats:

  • Size: Small
  • Bonuses:
  • Speed: +2
  • Weight: +2
  • Mini-Turbo: +1
  • How to unlock:
  • To unlock Baby Daisy you must get at least Rank for all 50cc Wii Grand Prix Cups
  • Or compete in 1,950 races

She's got her older self's attitude, she really enjoys hitting and passing over other racers, so she'll be sad if she's not the number one!. She's the Moo Moo Meadows owner.

Now, the vehicles we're seeing today are:

Cucumber

Cucumber

The Cucumber is Yoshi's second kart on Mario Kart DS, it's a dragstyled green kart... cheking the stats:

  • Speed: Average
  • Weight: Low
  • Drift: Low
  • Acceleration: High
  • Handling: High
  • Items: High

If you are searching for a kart that suits a Begginer style, this is your kart, it lacks drift and weight but, the other side like Handling and acceleration, well, it's a good kart for beginners!

Wario Bike

BrawlTrophy431.png

The Wario Bike, is the Heaviest Bike in Mario Kart Wii; it's a Large Bike, that stats list is like this:

  • Advantages:
  • Weight: Very High
  • Acceleration: Very high
  • Handling: High
  • Mini-Turbo: Mid-High
  • Off-Road: Mid-High
  • Disadvantages
  • Speed: Medium
  • Drift: Very Low

This Bike is not so good for you if you want speed, and staying at 1st place so easily, but is great if you search for a bike that keeps a decent speed and accelerates easy... the color schemes varies depending on the character using it:

  • Wario: Yellow with Gray exhaust pipes.
  • Waluigi: Purple with Gray exhaust pipes.
  • Donkey Kong: Dark Brown with Dull Yellow exhaust pipes.
  • Funky Kong: Blue with Yellowish exhaust pipes.
  • King Boo: Black with Gray exhaust pipes.
  • Bowser: Dark Green with Yellow exhaust pipes.
  • Dry Bowser: Gray with Black exhaust pipes.
  • Rosalina: Turqouise with Gray exhaust pipes.

The Item this time, a classic one... present since Mario Bros....

POW Block

Artwork of a POW Block, from Mario Kart Wii.

This Item is used in Mario Kart Arcade Grand Prix 2, and it's Waluigi's Special Item, and, if used, it stunnes a random character for about 7 seconds, also it's an item used in Mario Kart Wii, Like Blooper it affects all the opponents in front of the user, it'll make the characters bounce 3 times; the first two are just advertisements, but the 3rd will make you drop your Items and spinn around, losing your actual speed, There's one way to avoid it, even tho you'll loose your items, shake the control in the 3rd bounce and you'll keep your speed just spinning 1 time, also if you are not touching the floor while this 3rd time happens, you'll be not affected by the POW...

“Too many letters in the alphabet, it's confusing.”

Goood whatever-time-of-the-day-it-is-now. You have come to the place where you'll find all things Mario Awards.

Let's start of with a general thing that changed. The Mario Awards, the main category, are now numbered with the letter M instead of the A.
The A originated from when the Mario Awards were the sole category, and thus the A for "Award" was sufficient. More categories have been added since though, Fail, 'Shroom and User Awards, which each got their letters from their names. Mario was the only one left with a different letter.

Next, several tournament topics have been made on the Mario Awards X board on the Super Mario Boards. In general, tournaments are set to happen in June, July and August. When each happens depends on the tournament, but all will happen within that period.
Tournaments are also monitored more strictly to ensure a smooth experience for everyone.

In below table you can find an overview of all currently planned tournaments.

Tournament Host(s) Links
Art Contest Hypnotoad Topic
Awards Mafia Stooben Rooben and Superchao Topic
Guess the Result AC Staff
Mario Kart 7 Stargazing
Mario Kart 8 Lakituthequick
Minecraft Uniju and Toadbert101 Topic
Pokémon Cirdec
Scavenger Hunt Lakituthequick
Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U Groden
Yu-Gi-Oh DragonFreak Topic

Besides these, several other tournaments have been coined and are open to be hosted. These are Awesomenauts, Pokkén Tournament, Splatoon and Super Mario Maker.

Meetings' time. The eighth meeting was about finishing the 'Shroom Awards. After that, the motion of changing the A to M for the Mario Awards was accepted and the full review was started.
