Plot synopsis[edit]

Gasping and wheezing, Mario trudges down the stairs leading to Mario Bros. Plumbing. Luigi, who is just stirring a hearty ravioli sauce, looks up in surprise. He asks Mario what he is dragging in a huge box he is clutching with both arms, to which he merely responds that it is a sensation in the field of modern plumbing. Letting the heavy package drop to the ground, Luigi asks what is inside. Making a sweeping gesture, Mario announces that it is the Super-Sauger. Luigi tells him to open it, causing Mario to beam with joy. He tugs at the box and tears it open, presenting the Super-Sauger to Luigi, announcing it as the revolution for the sanitation trade.

Luigi cannot believe his eyes. Inside the opened box is a giant vacuum. Mario attaches a telescopic pole it, making it now two meters tall. Luigi wonders what they will do with the vacuum, only to turn around to notice that his sauce is burning. However, Mario, grinning, tells him to forget about the sauce, as they will not have to cook for themselves anymore; they will eat out at the finest Italian restaurants. Luigi bemoans the loss of the sauce and turns off the stove, before asking Mario what he plans to do with the Super-Sauger. Mario explains that they will expand their business; they will no longer merely clean clogged drains in sinks and bathtubs, adding that, with the Super-Sauger, they can unclog the entire sewer system. Luigi thinks that Mario has lost his mind, explaining that no-one would call a plumber when the sewers are clogged.

Just then, the phone rings. Luigi picks up the phone, and the caller announces that they are the Brooklyn Borough Hall, explaining that they have a clogged storm drain on the corner of Kenwood Road and Pioneer Avenue, asking him and Mario if they can take care of it. Swallowing, Luigi responds that they will come immediately. After placing the receiver on the hook, he stares at Mario, saying that he thought he only had the instinct for scampi in garlic sauce, and is surprised by his talent. He and Mario then head to the manhole on Kenwood and Pioneer Avenue and pry it up, with Mario opening the large box holding the Super-Sauger. After attaching the retractable telescopic pole and setting it to two meters high, they then turn over the manhole leading to the Brooklyn sewers.

In the sewers, Luigi is still marveled by Mario's talent and asks him to pour him a nice wine, though Mario reminds him that work comes before food, before suggesting that they should have some Chianti. Luigi tells him to stop with the jokes, demanding that he tell where he got his vacuum. As several pedestrians surround the giant vacuum in curiosity, with more coming, Mario explains that a man sold it to him for an egg and a sandwich, with the man claiming it to be technology of the future. Luigi rebuffs Mario's statement before glancing back at the Super-Sauger. He then asks Mario if the man has a name, to which he responds that he did not tell him it, though adds that he did look somewhat, with a lot of metal in front of his head. Luigi is surprised by Mario's response, and asks for clarification for what he means when he says that he had "a lot of metal in front of his head"; Mario explains that he could not see his face; he had metal in front of it, which he guesses is some kind of mask. However, he mentions that it does not matter, explaining that the man was right; plumbing is the business of the future. He continues by explaining that they already have the first job with the Super-Sauger, asking Luigi what else he wants before telling him to get to work. Luigi wants to say something else, but restrains himself and grabs the vacuum tube.

As Mario and Luigi begin to suck and pump, a boy pushes his way though the crowd surrounding them. He holds up a comic book and asks if the man who sold the vacuum to Mario looks like a character in the comic book. Mario and Luigi pause, with the former looking into the comic book. Beaming, he mentions that he looks exactly like the character. He then takes the book, revealing the cover, which has TEENAGE MUTANT HERO TURTLES writtten on it. Mario mentions that he knows the Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles, but realizes that the man who sold him the Super-Sauger must be Shredder. Luigi, whose name means nothing to him, tells Mario to continue pumping, with Mario reluctantly agreeing. As the Mario Bros continue using the Super-Sauger on the sewer, the boy with continues expressing his excitement and surprise over the Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles and Shredder being in Brooklyn.

After another round of pumping, Mario stops again, thinking that, if the man who sold him the vacuum is actually Shredder, then what they are doing here cannot be good, explaining that it must be another sinister plan of his, with him and Luigi being his henchmen. However, Luigi interrupts that they have to finish the job, explaining that, if is a job from the borough hall, they will receive a good pay for it. Mario doubts the caller's claim, but he grabs the tube again and continues pumping. Meanwhile, he continues wondering what Shredder's motivations were by selling the vacuum. He then suddenly exclaims that the caller might not have actually been the Brooklyn Borough Hall, though Luigi dismisses this, explaining that he clearly heard the caller says that it is the Brooklyn Borough Hall. He then adds that, instead of trying to get out of doing work all of time, he should help him out so they can finally complete the job.

The boy with the comic speaks up again, telling them that it could have been a fabricated story from Shredder. As Luigi wonders why he would have commissioned them for this job, a furious voice yells, "BECAUSE THE STUPID TURTLES BLOCK THE SEWERS!" The voice yells at them to pump harder, threatening to break their necks if they refuse. In wild panic, the pedestrians runs away, with the boy with the comic book pressing himself anxiously into a doorway, as now there stood Shredder and his two mutant helpers Bebop and Rocksteady. Mario exclaims that he must be in the wrong comic as Luigi stammers. Shredder commands the Mario Bros. to continue pumping, demanding that they "clear the sewer of this turtle pack." Under the pressure of held weapons, the Mario Bros. work hard.

Suddenly, Mario shouts that he and Luigi to take a twenty-minute break, as now the cartoon begins. Shredder is puzzled by this statement, to which Mario explains that he means The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!, asking if he is familiar with it. He explains that he and Luigi perform a small live-action segment, with the cartoon then following the segment. They then reappear at the end, though, during the cartoon, they always go to eat some pizza. Shredder looks irritated from one another, before finally agreeing to give them their break, explaining that he is a star in his own cartoon. However, once their break is over, they return to continue using the pump on the sewer, which Mario and Luigi agree to. They then pack up the Super-Sauger and exchange it at the nearest pizzeria for a super pizza. As a result, their second appearance on The Super Mario Bros. Super Show! is not only a great success, but also a rescue for the Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles.
