Metal Blocks are basically blocks that are found in Paper Mario.

These blocks are just basically metal blocks that block a path to a hidden area. When Mario finds one of these Blocks, he can't break these blocks with a Hammer or a Super Hammer. These blocks are also recently found in Mt. Lavalava in Lavalava Island during the events of Chapter 5. When Mario finds the Ultra Hammer during he explores around Mt. Lavalava, he can use this Hammer to break Metal Blocks as well. That Hammer is required to access to other areas in Mt. Lavalava. However, the Metal Blocks are also found in earlier areas Mario has been to.

In Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door they are indestructible.
