Variant of Tiki airship

Balloons[1] are objects in Donkey Kong Country Returns (as well as its Nintendo 3DS port and its Nintendo Switch port). They are flying vehicles similar to Tiki airships, but they are smaller, use a spiked balloon, and have a propeller on the bottom. A Tiki Goon rides each balloon. They only appear in Tiki Tong Terror.

The cutscene preceding Tiki Tong Terror's Rocket Barrel segment shows one balloon flying. In the middle of the Rocket Barrel segment, just as the player enters a field of bananas and banana bunches, five balloons attack them one after the other. Each one creeps up at the bottom of the screen, then accelerates to fly faster than the Kongs before flying past them and off the top of the screen. All the while, they attempt to match the player's horizontal position, though they move left and right slower than a Rocket Barrel can. Since the player is on a Rocket Barrel and balloons are solid objects, contact with a balloon instantly defeats the player.
