A spherical Goomba, known as Kuribon in Japanese, trapped inside a bubble.

The Goombas of Dinosaur Land (known as Kuribon in Japanese) are the Goomba variety featured in Super Mario World. During the Koopa Troop's invasion of Dinosaur Land, these spherical-shaped Goombas were deployed in large numbers. However, these creatures did not appear in masses as their mushroom-shaped brethren (known as "Kuribō" in Japanese) had during the events of Super Mario Bros. and Super Mario Bros. 3. Instead of Goombas, Koopa Troopas filled the role of common soldiers for the Koopa Troop. Interestingly, while some Goombas were stationed in certain locations as guards, others were dropped from the sky in droves. These Goombas would either parachute from above, or float down in bubbles (which would burst upon coming into contact with any object).

In the Super Mario World remake, Super Mario Advance 2, after the player beat the Special World and found all of the exits, the Goombas turned yellow, wore sunglasses, and became cheerful-looking.

The Goombas that appeared in Super Mario World were dramatically different than those seen in previous games. They were even given a different name in the Japanese version of the game ("Kuribon"), seemingly establishing them as an off-shoot of the mushroom-shaped variety of Goomba ("Kuribō"). Although these creatures walked in straight paths to attack, like previous Goombas, these new baddies did not look like the older ones. These Goombas did not have mushroom-shaped heads, but spherical ones, like a chestnut. They also lacked a stem: the Goomba’s two feet were attached directly to the bottom of the head. As such, they resembled angry chestnuts more than scowling mushrooms.

These spherical Goombas were also much more resilient than previous Goombas; only the powerful Spin Jump could destroy these Goombas in one hit. Both Yoshi's eating attack and a fireball strike could transform a Goombas into a gold coin. A normal jump would only flip the creature over, rendering it immobile. Mario or Luigi could actually pick up an immobile Goomba and kick the fungus at other enemies to destroy them. However, the immobile Goombas would eventually right itself, and hurt Mario upon being revived (if the creature was not thrown in enough time). The same thing happens with shelled enemies (such as Koopa Troopas and Buzzy Beetles) in Super Mario World and in previous Mario titles.
