Switchback Platforms in Switchback Hill.
Switchback Platforms are special platforms introduced in New Super Mario Bros. Wii and reappear in New Super Mario Bros. U. Depending on where the arrow in the center points, these platforms will constantly move left or right when the player steps on them. They appear in Switchback Hill in the latter game as the main gimmick and mode of transportation, but also rarely appear in World 9-2 of New Super Mario Bros. Wii. Items like Star Coins and coins are able to trigger the platform like a player would.
Trivia
- The Switchback Platforms in New Super Mario Bros. U make a small noise when stepped on. The ones in New Super Mario Bros. Wii do not have this characteristic.
