“Boy, everywhere you look, it's ghosts, ghosts, and more ghosts! Listen up, because you'll want to know how to fend 'em off. Jeepers creepers, better cast yer peepers on the top screen! All you have to do is stop moving and stay totally motionless. If you stay still, the ghosts turn transparent, and they can't hurt you. When you're walking, just stop where you are. When you're on pegs, grab on with both hands and freeze! Remember, when you're in danger, just stay calm and stay still.”

Ghosts are enemies in both games of the DK series.

History[edit]

DK: King of Swing[edit]

Ghost

Ghosts debut in DK: King of Swing. They are encountered in the Ship of Souls only, where they float around a set area until they spot Donkey Kong (or Diddy Kong), at which point they chase him. If he is moving, ghosts are opaque and can damage him. If he is not, they become translucent and pass through him. In either case, they can be defeated with a charged attack.

DK: Jungle Climber[edit]

Ghosts are featured within Spooky Woods, a level in DK: Jungle Climber, and retain the characteristics of being opaque while the Kongs are moving and invisible otherwise. They do not chase the Kongs or otherwise deviate from their paths, and if they are touched while opaque, they do not inflict damage. Instead, they shriek, which causes the Kongs to spin uncontrollably for a few seconds and fall downward. They are immune to conventional attacks but can be defeated if touched after a Crystal Star is used.
