Out of the Woods is a location found in Wario Land 3, the fourth installment of the Wario Land series. It serves as the very first level for Wario to explore, right after he gets swallowed by the Music Box World and meets the hidden figure at The Temple. It is available right from the start. While it is the first level in the game, it ironically also is the last level that must be completed, before Wario gets the chance to fight the final boss.
Out of the Woods is the first level on the northern side of the music box world in Wario Land 3. It is the only level to be made available at the beginning of the game.

The level Out of the Woods is located on the north sector of the world. It is set in a forest environment and thus its dominating colors are green and brown. Various tall trees can be seen in the background of the setting. The level itself is divided into three areas, which themselves branch off into different places. In all three areas, Wario can explore the ground level and the higher areas on the tree's branches to find hidden goodies. The first area's upper regions are filled with Applebies, which cause Wario to get fat when they hit him. The second area features some underground tunnels and and leads to a river with strong currents. The strong stream washes Wario away if he falls in, unless he finds a proper upgrade for his swimming abilities. The most prominent feature of the third area is a giant tree with a face, which is also home to the level's boss: Anonster the spider. A flaming torch can also be found here, as well as an area full of Silkies.

The level is set in a forest, where there are various tall trees. The level is divided into three areas. The first and leftmost area is smaller in size compared to the other two. The second and middle area is a taller area that contains an entrance to the underground and also another entrance to deep inside the forest with a water current. The third and rightmost area contains a large tree with a face, which is hollow and can be entered after obtaining the necessary treasure. The boss found in this level is Anonster, who is inside said tree.

The Axe is the first treasure Wario can find in Wario Land 3 and therefore is available right from the start. It is located in a Gray Chest, which can be found in the forest part inhabited by Silkies. The Gray Key, which is necessary to obtain the treasure, can be found near the upper regions of the second forest area.

After Wario successfully obtains the Axe, a cutscene will commence, in which Wario will strike down a big tree near the river that flows through the northern sector of the world. This opens the way to the bridge that leads over the river and allows Wario to access two other levels of the world: The Peaceful Village and The Vast Plain.
First Wario must make his way past the first area past the Spearheads to the second area, where he must make his way all the way to the right past the Spearheads and the Webbers to the rightmost platform. From there, he must jump up the platforms past the Spearheads to reach the Gray Key.

From the Gray Key, Wario must make his way down, and then go right to the next area where there is a tree with a face. Past the tree, Wario must go into the door all the way to the right, which contains a path to the Gray Chest with two Silkies in the way.

The Axe causes Wario to chop down a large tree, which allows him to access both The Peaceful Village and The Vast Plain.

Getting the Jar from the Red Chest requires the Ground Pound which Wario learns once he puts on the Jump Smash Overalls found at The Volcano's Base. With his new move he can force the mole-like creature from the second forest area, which blocks the way to the underground caverns, to move out of his way. In the caverns Wario can find the Red Key, as well as the appendant treasure chest. To reach the container, though, the player must first complete a game of golf to get rid of the barrage blocking the way.
The Jar is in the Red Chest. It requires the Lead Overalls from The Volcano's Base's Gray Chest, which allows Wario to Smash Attack to bump Futamogu down and destroy damaged blocks beneath Wario.

Once obtained safely, a rain cloud emerges from the artifact and quickly moves over the crater on the west sector of the world. There it begins to rain heavily which fills the crater with rain water. A level called The Pool of Rain will then become accessible to Wario, along with the level A Town in Chaos.
The Futamogu that blocks the pipe is in the area to the right, which can be knocked down with a Smash Attack, and once Wario has room to move down, he can enter the door beneath. Within this door, there are several damaged blocks to break with either a Dash Attack or a Smash Attack. When moving towards the right, there are two Omodonmeka and a Count Richtertoffen. The later can squash Wario to trigger Flat Wario, which requires the Omodonmeka to unflatten him. After the second Omodonmeka, there are platforms and a ladder going up. The right of the ladder has more damaged blocks, where there is another ladder. Up the ladder, there is a Silky and a Red Key.

After obtaining the Red Key, Wario must head back to the previous ladder to go up and then to the left, where there are more Silkies and damaged blocks, and also a Golf minigame room. The Golf minigame room is required to be visited to complete a round of Golf, in order to lift a mini-game block that is blocking the way to progress the level. The initial cost for playing a round is 10 coins. After clearing a course, Wario must then go left past the damaged blocks to drop below, and then go left past the damaged blocks and the mini-game block, and then go up the ladder to reach the Red Chest.

The Jar releases a rain cloud after its lid is opened, where it causes rain to heavily pour in the hole on the western side of the world to flood it, thus making both The Pool of Rain and A Town in Chaos accessible.

Page 96.</ref> upgrade for Wario's swimming skills becomes reachable after Wario brought together the Pouch from the Cave of Flames and the Eye of the Storm from The Stagnant Swamp. The two items will then create a magical storm which causes the leaves of this level's trees to become loose and fall down. Wario can use the falling leafage to cross the forest's river and its strong currents to reach the Green Chest.

It is available after obtaining both the Eye of the Storm from The Stagnant Swamp's Blue Chest and the Pouch from Cave of Flames' Green Chest. The resulting combination releases wind from the pouch after suppressing the Eye of the Storm in it, which causes leaves to fall from the trees.

These flippers increase Wario's swimming abilities, so he can even Super Swim through moving bodies of water against the upstream. This new ability makes new areas at the Bank of the Wild River, The Steep Canyon, and Beneath the Waves accessible.
For the Green Key, Wario must first go all the way to the right to the rightmost area, to the right of the flame. Over there, he must bounce on a Spearhead to jump on the thin platform above. After reaching the platform, the Green Key is to the right, though there is a bird waiting to ambush Wario.

After obtaining the Green Key, Wario must go to the area to the left, where there is a door to the left of the leftmost Webber. Within the door, there is a water current in the water and some platforms. If visited after acquiring the prerequisite treasures, leaves fall from the trees that can be stood on. During the day, the Kushimushi crawl on the trees before the large platforms above water. During the night, Mizuuo are underwater before the first two large platforms above water, where its water spit stuns Wario. The Green Chest is all the way to the right, which requires jumping from leaf to leaf across the platforms above water to reach it. If Wario falls underwater, he must start over from all the way to the left.

The Prince Frog's Glove power-up allows Wario to Super Swim, allowing him to swim past currents after pressing gbc towards that direction, even if the current is moving against Wario. The Gold Music Box, the last of the five music boxes, is in the Blue Chest. It requires the Gold Magic from Castle of Illusions' Green Chest, which causes the mouth of the large tree to open wide after its nose is exposed to the magic, enabling it to be entered.

The Gold Music Box is the last of the five music boxes is hidden inside the big tree with the face. Wario can attempt to get it after collecting the Gold Magic from the Castle of Illusions. The substance will then flow into the tree's nose, causing it to open its mouth and enabling Wario to enter. Inside the tree, Wario can find many Silkies and birds, which he must sometimes use as stepping stones in mid-air in order to progress inside the plant. At the top he will find the Blue Chest's guardian, a spider called Anonster.

The large tree with the face is in the rightmost area, where it is to the left of the flame torch. After entering it, Wario cannot exit from the same door. In the area, Wario must avoid or bounce on birds and go past Silkies on the way up to reach a ladder to climb. In a higher area in the tree, there is a Blue Key on the outside. To reach it, Wario must go up to an opening on the left side of the trunk, and then drop towards it.
To defeat the giant spider, Wario has to hit it six times in total: Three times in the air and three times on the ground. At the beginning of the battle, Anonster rapidly leaps down, connected to the ceiling via spider-webs. It will then spit a blast of web at Wario, which will transform him into Ball o' String Wario and throw him out of the battle on contact. He has to avoid the projectile until it touches the ground. Wario can then pick it up and hurl it at the boss at the ceiling. A direct hit will cause the spider to fall down, where it can be attacked with a Ground Pound. Anonster will continue to shoot web at Wario while on the floor, so the player has to be careful. After another hit, Anonster will return to the ceiling and repeat its former strategy. After each successful hit on the ground, it will spit one additional web projectile. The battle ends when the boss receives enough damage, and a staircase made of pieces of web will lead Wario to the Blue Chest. The treasure can be accessed with the Blue Key, which can be found along the way to the top of the tree.

After dropping to collect the Blue Key, Wario will drop just outside of the tree. The Blue Chest is within the tree, so he must reenter the tree and then make his way up to climb the ladder, and then go up the new area containing only Silkies so that he reaches a pipe. The pipe leads to the boss Anonster.

The boss Anonster starts out by spewing clouds of web. If Wario touch it from any side other than jumping on it, Ball o' String Wario will be triggered. Once the cloud of web touches the ground, the web becomes a ball in which Wario can grab to throw at Anonster. If it hits, Anonster will retreat and then ambush Wario from above. Anonster will crawl on the ground to spit webs on Wario in two separate times, which will also turn Wario into Ball o' String Wario, before returning to the ceiling. At any time Wario is turned into a ball, Wario will be be ejected from the area to the outside below. The area below has an overhanging tree branch below that can be smashed to the left, allowing Wario to go inside and back up to visit the boss again. In order to defeat Anonster, Wario must use a Smash Attack on the round pattern on its back three times. To do this, Anonster must be crawling on the ground after Wario throws a ball of web on it. In the second and third phases, Anonster will spew two and three clouds of webs respectively. After the third hit on Anonster, it will be defeated, and three web platforms float up, which allows Wario to reach the Blue Chest.

The Gold Music Box is the last of five music boxes, where The Temple can be visited to free the hidden figure, thus enabling Wario to confront their true nature.

Out of the Woods
N1 Out of the Woods

Out of the Woods is the first level on the northern side of the music box world in Wario Land 3. It is the only level to be made available at the beginning of the game.

Treasures[edit]

Gray Chest: Axe[edit]

Out of the Woods
A close-up of the Axe

The Axe[1] is in the Gray Chest, and is also the first treasure Wario can find in Wario Land 3. It is available as soon as the level is unlocked.

Red Chest: Jar[edit]

Out of the Woods
The Jar and the storm cloud

The Jar[2] is in the Red Chest. It requires the Lead Overalls from The Volcano's Base's Gray Chest, which allows Wario to Smash Attack to bump Futamogu down and destroy damaged blocks beneath Wario.

Green Chest: Prince Frog's Glove[edit]

Out of the Woods
Wario finds Prince Frog's Glove

Prince Frog's Glove[3], also called the Swim Fins[4] or Super Swimming Flippers[5] is a power-up in the Green Chest.

The Prince Frog's Glove power-up allows Wario to Super Swim[6][5], allowing him to swim past currents after pressing B Button towards that direction, even if the current is moving against Wario. This opens the way for new treasures in Bank of the Wild River, The Steep Canyon, and Beneath the Waves.

Blue Chest: Gold Music Box[edit]

Out of the Woods
Wario faces off against Anonster the spider

The Gold Music Box[5], the last of the five music boxes, is in the Blue Chest. It requires the Gold Magic from Castle of Illusions' Green Chest, which causes the mouth of the large tree to open wide after its nose is exposed to the magic, enabling it to be entered.

Out of the Woods
The final music box

The large tree with the face is in the rightmost area, where it is to the left of the flame torch. After entering it, Wario cannot exit from the same door. In the area, Wario must avoid or bounce on birds and go past Silkies on the way up to reach a ladder to climb. In a higher area in the tree, there is a Blue Key on the outside. To reach it, Wario must go up to an opening on the left side of the trunk, and then drop towards it.
