Step it up in Mario Party 9

Step it Up is a Minigame mode in Mario Party DS and Mario Party 9. This mode can be played by two, three, or four players. In this mode players compete to see who can be first to win 3, 5 or 7 mingames and after each minigame the player who won each minigame would get to climb some of the stairs.. This mode similar to some other minigame modes in past instalments in the series.

In Mario Party DS players could pick between a mixture of 4-Player, 1 vs 3 and 2 vs 2 or Dual Minigames. In Mario Party 9 the players could pick between either Free-For-All minigames or I vs Rivals minigames. If players where playing the Mario Party DS version, the minigame would be chosen randomly however in Mario Party 9 the player in last place would get to choose between five different minigames in the minigame wheel.

The background in the Mario Party 9 version seems to resemble the Tall Trunk Galaxy in Super Mario Galaxy 2. Whittles can also be seen in the background. Player who is first to win a 3, 5 or 7 minigames is the winner.
