Description(s)
A sound and icon alert you to a nearby hidden panel. (Paper Mario)

I Spy is a Badge in Paper Mario that allows Mario to find hidden panels containing Star Pieces. When equipped, a ringing noise plays and a Star Piece icon appears whenever Mario is close to a panel, which he can flip with a Spin Jump (after obtaining the Super Boots). I Spy is not required to access panels, but is the only way to detect their locations. The Badge is rewarded to the player by Rowf in Toad Town once his Calculator, stolen by Shy Guys and taken to Shy Guy's Toy Box, is returned to him.

I Spy does not return in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door; instead, Ms. Mowz is able to sniff out the location of any "treasure" in the near vicinity, which includes hidden panels.

Merluvlee's prediction[edit]

  • "I see...an I Spy Badge. I see you handing something to a merchant who cannot open his shop without the tools of his trade. You find what was stolen from him and he gives you the Badge."
