Flutter Wings are a power-up in Yoshi's New Island. It grants a Yoshi a pair of wings, which allows them to flutter-fly. Flutter-flying is like flutter jumping, except that Yoshi does not exert themself and the move can be repeated indefinitely by holding the jump button. The latter property allows Yoshi to very easily maintain his height, whereas the flutter jump has to be restarted after ending and improper timing can cause Yoshi to lose height. Flutter-flying replaces flutter jumping. It is not specified that a Yoshi with the Flutter Wings is a "Winged Yoshi".

Mr. Pipe appears to give Yoshi the Flutter Wings after they loses three lives in a level, similarly to the Invincibility Leaf from Super Mario 3D Land. The Golden Flutter Wings are a variation that makes Yoshi invincible in addition to the Flutter Wings's effects, which Mr. Pipe gives out only when a Yoshi loses another life with the Flutter Wings. Even if a Yoshi has already completed their respective level, assuming the Yoshi loses three lives in that level, they will still be offered the Flutter Wings by Mr. Pipe.

If every level is completed without the Flutter Wings, there will be a battle with Bowser before Baby Luigi and the stork are saved, as well as a cutscene showing Mr. Pipe's true identity after the credits.

In Yoshi's Woolly World and Poochy & Yoshi's Woolly World. Mellow Mode has Yoshi become Winged Yoshi, with flying mechanics near identical to the Flutter Wings, but does not call the action performed with them "flutter-fly". Yoshi's Crafted World has a light modification of the flying mechanics, and does not call it "flutter-fly" or call Yoshi with wings "Winged Yoshi".
