S2. Favorite Team
<polldaddy pollid="8906620"/>

S2. Favorite Team

This awards aims to acknowledge what readers think is our best team. This includes all five sub-teams plus the Main Team.

Nominee Summary/Description
Main Team

Technically not a sub-team, the Main Team was nonetheless where all the sections were placed initially in the pilot release when The 'Shroom first started back in August 11th, 2006. While sub-teams were introduced to help organise the newsletter, the Main Team continued to be where any out-of-place sections were positioned when they weren’t able to fit anywhere else, such as interviews, featurettes, guest sections, and game history overviews. Main Team has had a bizarre fluctuation of being both the most and least active of the teams throughout its long run, due partially to a constant moving of sections to and from the Main Team. Due to its position as the default team, Main Team is run by the immediate newsletter directors, currently Super Mario Bros. (talk) and Edofenrir (talk), and currently has the permanent writers Yoshi876 (talk) (Retro Feature) and Paper Yoshi (talk) (Mario Calender). Here is a historical list of Main/Staff sections.

Fake News

Started in the first official ‘Shroom release by the now-banned user WarioLoaf (talk) on January 6th, 2007, Fake News was the first of the sub-teams to be founded, designed to allow writers to flex their fiction-writing muscles by making up news stories about upcoming Mario game releases or inventing creative stories surrounding the various characters of the Mario universe. Having survived the long test of time, Fake News continues to be a huge draw for the newsletter, currently headed by its longest-running director MrConcreteDonkey (talk), and sustained by its ongoing writers Toadbert101 (talk) (Fake Ads), Yoshi876 (talk) (Obituaries), and Hypnotoad (talk) (Dear Anton). Here is a historical list of Fake News sections.

Fun Stuff

Fun Stuff began in the third issue under the name of Fun Section, founded by the 'Shroom’s director at the time, Plumber (talk), on March 3rd, 2007. Fun Stuff was created to provide interactive games and activities for the community, such as riddles, trivia, or quizzes, eventually growing over time to incorporate visual games such as crosswords and picture matching games. Fun Stuff is currently run by Palkia47 (talk), supported by its writers Marshal Dan Troop (talk) (Trivia), Yoshi876 (talk) (Quiz), Andyni (talk) (Guess Who!), and Palkia47 (talk) (Word Search). Here is a historical list of Fun Stuff sections.

Palette Swap

Originally under the moniker of Art and Music, and later Music and Artwork, before reaching its current name, Palette Swap was created in the 29th issue by the current 'Shroom Director Super Mario Bros. (talk), on August 13th, 2009. Palette Swap’s focus is also on the community’s creativity, but with a focus on multimedia such as music and artworks, both official and fan-made. While it was initially simply a showcase of screenshots and artwork from around the Wiki, the past couple of years have seen more substance added to the sub-team, with commentary, user-created music and fanart, and occasionally artwork competitions. Palette Swap is currently directed by FunkyK38 (talk), and its current permanent staff are Yoshi876 (talk) (What’s On the Box?; Ongoing Fan Projects), FunkyK38 (talk) (Sprite of the Month), and Walkazo (talk) (Mario’s Boombox). Here is a historical list of Music & Artwork sections.

Pipe Plaza

Pipe Plaza actually used to be a separate sector of the Wiki, a portal with the intention of keeping the community up to date on recent events and various aspects of the wiki in need of tidying up or improvement. Due to its considerable inactivity, it was decided via Proposal to add it in to The 'Shroom in the 32nd issue run by Super Mario Bros. (talk), but it didn’t get any content until the the next issue, whereupon Marioguy1 (talk) was added as a co-director. Keeping true to its roots, Pipe Plaza details all the changes in the Wiki as well as its forum in the past month, often with very rigid formatting rules for simplest readability, making it the most code-heavy sub-team in the newsletter. Pipe Plaza is currently headed by Yoshi876 (talk) (who also writes the ongoing section Featured), and its current permanent writers are Viper26 (talk) (Monthly Report), Driftmaster130 (talk) (Community Report), Lumastar (talk) (New Articles), and FunkyK38 (talk) (Tip of the Month). Here is a historical list of Pipe Plaza sections.

Critic Corner

The most recent of the sub-teams, founded in the 64th issue special by the former Affiliates Manager Crocodile Dippy (talk) on July , 2014, Critic Corner was devised to help reduce the crowding of the main page by pulling all review and analyst-style sections into a single page. As a result, Critic Corner tends to be the wordiest of the sub-teams, but has also struggled at times with getting a consistent writer base; however, it’s also noted as the most stylised sub-team, due in large part to the coding assistance of Twentytwofiftyseven (talk). Critic Corner is run by Crocodile Dippy (talk) (whom also writes one of its ongoing sections, Crocodile Style Reviews), and its permanent writers are Yoshi876 (talk) (Character Review), Pyro (talk) (Fangame Reviews), and FunkyK38 (talk) (Book Reviews). Here is a historical list of Critic Corner sections.
