Opening Statement

HI, readers! I'm your once-again-vacationing Co-director, Tucayo, here to open the July 2013 issue of The 'Shroom. Before getting to the news, I'd like to take some time to thank everyone who supported the Special Issue; readers, writers, guests, etc. Without you it wouldn't have been the success it was. Now let's get things started.

  • I'm afraid this month we'll have to start on a sad note; due to unforeseen circumstances, our Sub-Director, Hitokage (talk) has had to retire from his duties. It's really sad to see you leave, Edo. On behalf of everyone at The 'Shroom I wish you the best. We'll miss you while you're gone, it's truly a pleasure to work with you, and it's even a bigger pleasure to call you my friend, so I honestly hope to see you again in the near future.
  • To cover the Sub-Director duties we have Twentytwofiftyseven (talk), who kindly agreed to retake the job. Starting this month, all Main sections must be sent to him, instead of Edo. Thanks, 22.

Section of the Month

HI, readers! I'm your sporty Co-director, Tucayo, here to bring you joy and happiness last month's Main Team SOTM results. In last month's Special Issue, we had our largest Main Team in six months, and we relocated the polls to the end of every Main Team section to make it easier for you; these two things helped us get our largest voting turnout in a Main Team SOTM poll, with a whopping 74 votes!

On to the results, winning by more than 30% of the votes, we had none other than Special Issue honoree, Gamefreak75 (talk)! Our former Fun Stuff Director compared two of his favorite series in a extensive section called Kirby vs. Mario. I remember Gamefreak was actually worried the section might have been a bit too long, but hey, I guess it was the right size! After all, it was a great read, you should definitely check it out. Congratulations, GF!

Poll Chairperson Election

Hello, fellow members of the Super Mario Wiki. I would like to thank everybody that supported me and Henry Tucayo Clay (talk) in the Poll Committee Chairperson Election. It feels amazing to be entrusted with this position again, after having held it during the committee's first two years. I am happy to be able to lead this group for another year, and will do so in the best manner that I can. Toad85 (talk) and New Super Mario (talk) were honorable opponents in the election and proposed several good ideas, so I would like to thank them for their participation in the process as well.

I would like to take this chance to restate that I hope to make this Committee more open to outside ideas. That said, we will be accepting forms containing ideas for polls to put up. All you have to do is fill out the form I will provide below, and send it to me on the forum via Private Message. I expect to see some interesting and creative ideas, so we will see what happens!

Feedback Survey

Greetings, readers of The 'Shroom! I am posting an update on the Feedback Survey, which started last month and has concluded as of today. We are very pleased to announce that we have received a tremendous 36 responses on this most recent edition of the questionnaire! We would like to thank everybody that has taken the time to respond. These surveys allow us to get an understanding of how the readers feel, what policies we need to enact in order to keep the paper on track, and which processes work and which ones need refining. When more of our readers take part in this project, we get a better idea of what we need to do.

From what we have looked through so far, we see good ideas that are being suggested and that we will consider implementing. We will go through the results further in the coming months, discuss them and consider them in our plans, and make sure that your voices are heard.

Subscription Update

Hello everybody! I feel that it is important that I make a staff article regarding some new features regarding our subscription services. The 'Shroom Staff has promised its readers more ways to find out when our latest issues are hot off the presses, so we have looked into several methods of doing so. I will discuss the older way of subscribing, as well as the two new options that have been introduced.

The first method of subscribing to The 'Shroom was one that was introduced in 2006 by Wayoshi (talk) when he was Director, and was specifically tailored for those that have accounts on the wiki. It is as simple as inserting the {{'Shroombox}} template onto your user page! There are also parameters in the template's coding that allow you to align the box to the right of the page or to the left of the page. Every month, the staff will update that template in order to bring each issue right to your page.

Fake News

Welcome back to the Fake News! I hope you're all enjoying the summer because I'm certainly not.

Last month's Section of the Month was won by Edofenrir (talk) (aka Koohitsu) and the Monthly Inquisition, with 37 votes. Alexneushoorn (talk)'s Police Blotter came second with 22 votes, and Gamefreak75 (talk)'s Cooking Guide and Mr. Game & Watch (talk)'s Shop Scout tied for third with 19 votes.

We've also got a few staff changes this month. First, Yoshi876 (talk) has been hired for the shock return of the Obituaries section, which was last seen in 2009, so congratulations to him.

Fun Stuff

Hello, readers! Besides being your interviewer, I'm now also running this. Shoey gave it up after a tragic hat accident. Anyhow, the Special Issue's Section of the Month is Pyro's Find the Differences, with Hiding Mr. Saturn in second and Non-Mario Crossword in third.

Additionally, this month is Gamefreak's last section! Well, last month was, but this is when he gives last month's answers. That's all, pretty much.

Palette Swap

Greetings, all! Welcome to the July issue of the ‘Shroom!

Last month, we announced a Legend of Zelda drawing contest! And… we got THREE entries this time! All right! You all can vote for your favorite, and may the best drawing win! Well, then, I suppose the challenge… was not well received. Hopefully, we’ll get more submissions next time we run a contest! Calling all artists!

Critic Corner

The best news is no news, and that is what I have for you, my dear readers, this fine Winter day. No, I don't care that you're not in the southern hemisphere, this is my season and I'm sticking with it, and anyone who wants to argue will have to answer to my new picture over there. It's not actually new, it's been around a fair while now, but might as well brighten this corner up a little bit before I lose all my readers.

Also, still looking for writers for the following:

  • Marioverse Reviews
  • Character Reviews
  • Virtual Console Reviews
  • Game Comparison
  • Movie Reviews
  • Book Reviews

Interview

Hello, 'Shroom readers! I'm still Superchao, but now I've been promoted to Fun Stuff director! But I remain committed to bringing you high-quality interviews and low-quality introductions!

This month, I'm interviewing forum regular Nabber! Nabber's been pretty significant in the community for a while now, and while he was originally pretty controversial, he's generally liked these days. He's also a member of the Mafia Hosts Guild, and one of the more profilic mafia players around.

And that's enough of my attempts to introduce him. Why not read what the man himself has to say?

The Interview

Superchao: Hello yet again, Shroom readers! This month, I'm branching out and interviewing someone not a current staff member: Nabber!
Nabber: Good morning, MarioWiki! Or night. Whenever you're reading this.
Superchao: You forgot afternoon, silly.
Nabber: And evening, for that matter.
Nabber: Time zones are confusing.

Brawl Tactics

Hello Brawlers, welcome to Brawl Tactics. I'm Yoshi123, but you can call me Timmy if you'd like. FunkyK38 and I will alternate on Brawl Tactics bimonthly from now on. This is my first time writing up an article (which will be fairly long), so don't be too harsh, alright?

Now, I'm not going to cover any specific characters or stages in this, but I will cover a general topic in Brawl: getting a KO.

You know how sometimes you can struggle to get that KO on your opponent? Well, there are some factors in getting that KO. Here's a list of them:

  1. Opponent's damage
  2. Opponent's weight
  3. Stage position
  4. The power/knockback of your move
  5. Opponent's ability to momentum cancel
  6. Stale move negation

Closing Statement

Sub-Director's Notes

Twentytwofiftyseven (talk)

Well, Gabumon has tragically died, and as his next-of-kin I've inherited his job as Sub-Director of The 'Shroom. I hope I can deliver a quality of work that lives up to his legacy. Also, if anyone reading wants to volunteer to be the blood sacrifice to raise him as a zombie, get in touch.

Closing Statement

Hello, hello, hello! Welcome to another issue of The 'Shroom, my fellow readers! Super Mario Bros. here, wrapping up another one of the fine productions that we release each month.

I would like to start with thanking Edofenrir (talk) for his exemplary job as Sub-director. As is probably known by now, he is no longer with The 'Shroom due to unfortunate internet service issues he has been dealing with. Whether it be contributing sections, editing all of the content before it is posted to ensure its quality, contributing to staff discussions, or making wonderful artwork for our projects, Edofenrir has made his mark on The 'Shroom and has been a great colleague when it comes to making issues.
