Section of the Month

March's Critic Corner Section of the Month

In case readers did not know, these are here due to the lack of a Critic Corner section this month. Sorry about that!

The winner of last month’s SotM was New Super Mario with his “Smash Time” section, which came in with 7 votes. YoshiMonsta’s “Entertainment Section” came in close with 4 votes. Congrats! (;

The 'Shroom Spotlight

Shroom Spotlight Lakitu.png

Welcome ‘Shroom readers, you may or may not be aware but this is the one year anniversary of Spotlight’s re-introduction to our paper. So we thought it fitting to have some words from our former director: YoshiKong (talk). "Hey guys... wow, has it really been a year since the Spotlight project was dusted off and made a regular section to the 'Shroom once again? Holy Heck where did that time go??! Special thanks to my mates Yoshi876 and GBAToad for taking on the director position with such commitment and enthusiasm after I decided to ditch it! Shine on 'Shroomers, and keep up the good work y'all!"

Fake News

Editorial

Hello, and welcome to the first Fake News of 2014! I think.

Ladies and gentlemen, this is extraordinary. You may remember the Fake News section in the issue released a year ago today, Issue LXXIII, in which Tucayo (talk), in his final (though not actually final) Ask Tucayo section, made this outlandish and, at the time, seemingly irrelevant claim:

MCD: Who would you like as an ideal replacement for the "Ask ____" section?
Tucayo: Kim Jong-un. Or Bill Clinton. [...]

Fun Stuff

Director's Notes (Super Mario Bros. (talk))

Hello readers! This is SMB, returning to The 'Shroom to direct the Fun Stuff Team. New Super Mario (talk) was looking for somebody to replace him as he had other responsibilities to tend to, so I applied for the position and was given the job. I will work with the Core Staff team and the Fun Stuff writing team to ensure that we continue to produce high-quality sections and projects each month. From now on, I will make posts in the Fun Stuff Director's Notes regarding openings in the writing team, Section of the Month results from the previous edition's vote, and any new features that we plan to introduce.

Greetings, readers! So glad to have you here this month for Palette Swap! There’s not too much for me to say this month. We haven’t gotten any new applications recently, but do check out What’s On The Box? again this month! Enough talk, let’s get to the art! ~FunkyK38

Pipe Plaza

Director's Notes (Paper Yoshi (talk))

Hello, readers, and welcome to the April Issue of Pipe Plaza!! This month, I do have news not related to Section of the Month, so let's get to that!

I had this in mind ever since the beginning of the year, but ended up forgetting about it for the past three months. I finally remembered to talk to the staff a few days ago, presenting my idea, and so we have decided to make UPdate, written by Super Mario Bros. (talk) as a guest section in the December 2013 Issue, a regular section in the Pipe Plaza Sub-Team. It will open for sign-ups immediately after this issue is released, so be sure to start working on an application if you're interested in the section!

Interview

Superchao

Hello, 'Shroom readers! This month I'm interviewing Brawl Tactics writer, Timmy! I've given up on introductions, so let's get to it!

The Interview

Brawl Tactics

FunkyK38

What's up, Brawlers? I'm sure many of you have seen the recent reveals for the new Super Smash Bros. games, as I have, and let me tell you, I'm excited to see what all of these returning veterans and new fighters bring to the party!

Now, onto this month's issue. Pulling from a series that many fans are hoping will be represented in the new games, I will be covering the stage Shadow Moses Island, from the Metal Gear Solid series.

Mario Calendar

Paper Yoshi

Hey, you! Welcome to the April Issue of Mario Calendar!! Well, aside from a minor aesthetic change ("VC" is now "WiiVC" to better differentiate the three Virtual Consoles), I have nothing new to share with you guys, so let's see all the Mario, Yoshi, Wario and Donkey Kong games released on an April day!

Fading Into Obscurity

KP

Hello there and welcome to Fading into Obscurity! KP here, and today we are going to look at a not-so well known character from the Mario series: Il Piantissimo!

Piantissimo appears in Super Mario Sunshine, making his appearance in Gelato Beach, demanding that Mario race him to the nearby flag, being the exuivalent of Koopa the Quick in that manner. He returns in Noki Bay and in Pianta Village, staying true to his overconfident and superior attitude, even though Mario beats him both times. At the end of the game, Piantissimo finds the Magic Paintbrush while at Gelato Beach, making an elusive ending to the game.

From the Mushroom Vaults

KP

Hi readers, I'm KP, your new From the Mushroom Vaults writer. Since I've been playing a lot of Nintendo 64 lately, I would like to share some good info about Super Mario 64 with you. This month, we will look at the Red Coin missions for all three Bowser-themed courses for those of you who want to get 120 Power Stars, which I'm sure all of you do, right? No? Well, too bad, I'm doing it anyway!

Bowser in the Dark World

  • Red Coin 1 and 2 are both on top of blocks that appear upon activating a ! Switch.
  • Red Coin 3 is next to the third crystal in the second section of the level.
  • Red Coin 4 is next to a stone cube and can be obtained when a yellow block protrudes from the side.

Closing Statement

Closing Statement

My subdirector has mysteriously disappeared. Hopefully he will return eventually.

Anyhow, thanks for reading this issue of the 'Shroom! A reminder that July will be a Special Issue, and more info on that will be available next month! And as always, feel free to message me on the forums if you want to sign up for the Main Team! We'd really appreciate signups for Palette Swap, Fun Stuff, or Critic Corner - those teams could definitely use more writers. See you next month, May 17th.
