In loving memory of Lana (February 16th, 2004 – October 19th, 2015), the Robin to Lili's Batman, the jelly to Lili's peanut butter, and a doggy heroine on her own.

Credit goes to Stooben Rooben (talk), Super Mario Bros. (talk), and Viper26 (talk) for the table coding (I based this on Stooben's coding, which was later modified by SMB, myself, and Viper26 when each one of us wrote this section).

Tip of the Month

Written by: FunkyK38 (talk)

Tip of the Month: When you're putting an image in an article, look at how the article flows. Will the placement of your image make the formatting look disrupted? You can change what side of the page your image will appear on with a simple change to the image's code. Here's what your code should look like if you want to put an image in a specific place:

[[File:Mario.png|thumb|left]]

Specifically, where you see 'left,' you can put 'right' or 'center,' although you wouldn't ever put an image in the center of a proper Wiki article.

Poll Committee Discussion

Written by: Andymii (talk)

Happy 2016! Welcome to Poll Committee Discussion, where we analyze questions we polled the community on. Packy is still not here, which has been my introductory sentence for pretty much every issue, but is nevertheless noteworthy. So yeah, I'm doing this again. Once he returns, I’ll probably continue to do this anyway. I like power.

There's nothing too eventful this time. However, we still encourage the public to submit external poll ideas! Since our current committee started in August, we have had a record of 0 externally given polls, which is kind of sad, really. We're working on a better suggestion system, but for the time being, feel free PM me on the forums (my username's Andymii) or here on my talk page.

Anyhow, we have the results from the holiday poll and others from last month, so you might want to check them out!

Recent Polls

Cloud in Smash Bros (Nysic (talk), January 3, 2016)

Cloud Strife from Final Fantasy VII was recently confirmed to be a new fighter in Super Smash Bros! How do you feel about his inclusion?

This is amazing! I couldn't be happier for his inclusion! 20.94% (468 votes)
I'm glad that he's in, but it's nothing to go crazy about. 21.66% (484 votes)
He's a good choice, but I'd much rather have another character instead of him. 20.09% (449 votes)
I don't like his inclusion. There are so many more characters more worthy of a spot than him. 10.16% (227 votes)
This is terrible! Cloud never even appeared on a Nintendo console! He doesn't deserve the spot! 6.58% (147 votes)
Who's Cloud Strife? 20.58% (460 votes)
Total Votes: 2,430

NSMB Debate (Andymii (talk), December 27, 2015)

Do you consider the New Super Mario Bros. series to be a continuation of the original Super Mario Bros. series?

Yes! Because of the same play style, it's obviously a continuation, just "newer." 67.12% (1,631 votes)
Nope. From different artwork to different music, they are two separate series. 15.72% (382 votes)
Because all Mario games are so different from each other, I doubt either are valid series to begin with. 6.63% (161 votes)
I'm undecided. 10.53% (256 votes)
Total Votes: 2,430

Christmas! (Andymii (talk), December 20, 2015)

Mario and Luigi: Paper Jam 32.57% (884 votes)
Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash 3.76% (102 votes)

Mario Party 10 4.16% (113 votes)
Other 5.2% (141 votes)
None 3.94% (107 votes)
I don't celebrate the holidays. 1.51% (41 votes)
I think video games make pretty unintelligent gifts. 1.18% (32 votes)
Total Votes: 2,714

Analysis

Mario Maker levels: This poll's pretty self-explanatory. Not much to say here.

Cloud in Smash Bros: I do not know who Cloud Strife is. Apparently, nor do 20% of you people. It really shows how many young/casual video game players visit this site, and it also shows that I really need to start playing non-Mario games.

NSMB Debate: This poll was inspired by this proposal. While voters of the proposals absolutely agreed that New Super Mario Bros. is not its own series, our Main Page Poll showed a completely different story, with 67% of voters saying that is its own series. This is actually really interesting, as it shows what type of people are drawn into formal wiki matters, such as the proposal system.

Christmas!: From the start, we knew it would be a close race between Paper Jam and Mario Maker. Paper Jam was leading for a long time, but Mario Maker caught up near the end, fulfilling Bazooka Mario (talk)'s mystic prediction. Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash and Mario Party 10 are as low as expected, though I wasn't expecting Puzzles and Dragons: Super Mario Bros. Edition to be so unpopular. It didn’t even get that bad reviews!

…And, that's about it. It's pretty short this time. Thank you for reading this month's Poll Committee Discussion, and please check back next month!

ONGOING TALK PAGE PROPOSALS:

Proposer Summary Link Deadline
RandomYoshi (talk) Split Tightrope from Rope

Proposal to split Tightrope from Rope, the proposal argues that the tightrope is included on this page for no reason at all other than it’s a rope and how the paragraph for the tighrope section opens like it already is its own article.

Baby Luigi (talk) Split The Brain from Poltergeist

Proposal to split The Brain from the Poltergeist page, the proposal explains that "The Brain" is a bigger variant of the Poltergeists, and he is the sole, final boss of any Scarescraper that isn't endless, unlike the other Scarescraper variations which are randomized and that the forcefield attack, the HP difference, and the fact that he is always the definitive final boss of Scarescraper is enough good reasons he should be split.

Mario jc (talk) Split Arcade Bunny from Sales Bunny, or remove Sales Bunny altogether

Proposal to split Arcade Bunny from Sales Bunny arguing that there's no evidence that the bunny from StreetPass Mii Plaza and Nintendo Badge Arcade are the same bunny, and saying that the change in its appearance just doesn't suffice. The proposer gives two options, either Split Arcade Bunny from Sales Bunny and remove Sales Bunny info or Split Arcade Bunny info from Sales Bunny and leave the Sales Bunny info.

Hello, readers! I'm your Spotlight manager and Pipe Plaza Director, Yoshi876. Welcome to Retro Feature, a section in which I delve deep into the archives to bring you the best blasts from the past. This time I bring a section from a previous Fake News Director, and Statistics Manager: Ralphfan.

Ralpfan joined the wiki on 13 November 2008 and he joined The 'Shroom in Issue XXIII, which was released on February 14th 2009, writing Fake TV, he would go on to write this section seven more times. Other sections he would write for Fake News included: Cooking Guide (9), Director's Notes (23), Fake Games (3), Fake Music (3), Fake Sports (31), Fake Weather (3), Interview (5), Obituaries (4) and Updated Info (11). He also wrote an Awards Committee Commentary, a Monthly Mulligan and several reviews of games for the Main Team, a Special Section as well as a Special Interview, and in 2012 he covered the World Cup with Henry Tucayo Clay (talk). In Palette Swap he wrote Random Image of the Month for 12 issues and wrote the Anniversary Annoucements and Forum Update for Pipe Plaza.

However, you're not here for the history of Ralphfan, you're here to view an old section from years gone by, so today I bring you Ralpfan's Review Corner from Issue LII!!

Review Corner

By Ralphfan (talk)
The boxart.

Hello again! This month I will be reviewing a game that has captured the Best Remake award every single year in the Mario Awards, Super Mario 64 DS! This game was released in the US in November 2007 as a remake of Super Mario 64, a game released in 1996. Many changes were made between the original and the remake.

Plot

Yoshi arrives at Peach's Castle. Not only is Peach missing as usual, but Mario is too! Yoshi has to find Mario, and the two then have to work together to find Luigi and Wario over the course of many 3D levels. Super Mario 64 was the first 3D platformer in the Mario series, and Mario was the only playable character. The game includes multiple battles with Bowser and other bosses and a total of 150 stars to collect. 80 stars must be collected to reach the final boss fight. The game is broken up into 15 worlds of 7 stars each, and there are also 30 secret stars scattered around the castle. Each level also includes a star that can be earned by collecting 100 coins, which all adds up to 150.

Gameplay

This game has a tough learning curve, but it becomes more and more fun as you unlock more levels. I prefer the camera angles in this game over the angles in any of the other 3D platformers just because it's easier to adjust (holding the L button and pressing the D-pad). Players can easily pick the camera angle of their choice.

Changes

Of the many changes between the original game and the remake, the most notable are:
-The inclusion of Yoshi, Luigi and Wario as playable characters
-Items that can only be used by specific characters
-The introduction of new stars
-The ability for Yoshi to put on a cap and imitate one of the human characters
-A room to switch between characters

Overall

This is a fun game because it has lots of original bosses, interesting level layouts and creative puzzles to complete. I give it a 9.5/10. The only drawback is the learning curve.

The 'Shroom Report

Written by: Henry Tucayo Clay (talk)

HI! I'm your informative writer, Tucayo, here with a new section called The 'Shroom Report! On this section I'll give you the news regarding our first-time writers, writing milestones, records for most sections written, as well as some 'Shroom trivia. All of that with the help of our wonderful Writer History, which was created by Ralphfan (talk) and then later maintained by Mario4Ever (talk), RandomYoshi (talk), Turboo (talk), and myself. To further explain: in the First-time Writers section, I will mention those writers who had their first ever section featured in our last issue; for the Milestones section, writers will get mentioned every 10 sub-team sections and every 50 all-time sections, teams will get mentioned every 100 sections, and The 'Shroom will get mentioned every 500 sections; and, for Most Sections Written, every single section ever written by that user is counted. Since this the first edition of this section, I will be covering Issues 104 and 105.

Tables are based off the End-of-the-Year Awards tables, so credit goes out to Crocodile Dippy (talk).
