Red Shy Guy[edit]

"Red Shy Guy"[46] or "Shy Guy (Red)"[47] refers to a recurring type of Shy Guy. In Yume Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic, Super Mario Bros. 2, Super Mario All-Stars, and Super Mario Advance, they are the Shy Guys that walk off the edge of platforms. In Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, they are the Shy Guys that walk in set patterns. While present in the Yoshi series, there is typically no difference between the different colors of Shy Guy and their colors are not always denoted in their nomenclature for these games. The exception is Yoshi's Story, in which eating a Red Shy Guy restores three segments of the Smile Meter instead of one if the player is controlling Red Yoshi. In nearly all other contexts, the "normal" Shy Guys are red. In material for older games, its name is rendered as "Shyguy - Red"[48] or "Red Shyguy."[49]

"Pink Shy Guy"[57][58] or "Shy Guy (Pink)"[47] refers to a specific type of Shy Guy introduced in Yume Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic and Super Mario Bros. 2. In these games, they are the Shy Guys that turns around at the edge of platforms. They are also recurring in the Yoshi series, beginning with Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, but they have no behavioral differences between the different colored Shy Guys in this game. In the original English instruction booklet for Super Mario Bros. 2, its name is rendered as "Shyguy - Pink."[48]

They appear in place of the Pink Shy Guys in these games and are erroneously referred to as "Shyguy Pink" in the guidebook for Super Mario All-Stars.[49] In Yoshi's Story, eating a Blue Shy Guy restores three segments of the Smile Meter instead of one if the player is controlling Blue Yoshi. It is one of the four Shy Guys that appears in Yoshi's Island DS, appearing in place of the Pink Shy Guy.
