Golden Flutter Wings,[citation needed] or Invincibility Flutter Wings,[1] are a power-up in Yoshi's New Island. It grants a Yoshi a pair of golden wings that are used to flutter-fly, just like the normal Flutter Wings. Additionally, Yoshi becomes invincible. However, the invincibility does not allow Yoshi to defeat enemies on contact, and instances that would inflict damage instead knock Yoshi backward. It is not specified that a Yoshi with the Golden Flutter Wings is a "Winged Yoshi".
Mr. Pipe gives Yoshi the Golden Flutter Wings if they lose three lives in one level, take the Flutter Wings from Mr. Pipe, then lose another life with the Flutter Wings. This unlock method is similar to the Invincibility Leaf from Super Mario 3D Land, as is the effect of the Golden Flutter Wings.
If every level is completed without the Flutter Wings or Golden Flutter Wings, there will be a battle with Bowser before Baby Luigi and the stork are saved. An additional post-credits scene reveals Mr. Pipe's true identity as adult Mario.
