Dueling Geniuses is a side quest in Mario & Luigi: Brothership. In this quest, Mario and Luigi must obtain three Zokket Alloys for Adaphne to make the Bros. powerful Boots. Additionally, Technikki can also help out if she is consulted.

Dueling Geniuses becomes available after choosing Adaphne or Technikki's plan and expires after the second visit to Fortress Zokket. Clearing the side quest awards a Defense Bean and a Heart Bean, but depending on the decisions made during the side quest, the Adaphne Boots or Adaphnikki Boots can also be obtained.

Side quest[edit]

After choosing Adaphne or Technikki's plan and hearing about the engine of Bowser's Airship on Wayaway Island, Adaphne tells the Bros. that she has a blueprint for a special piece of equipment. If Technikki's plan was chosen, she will travel back to Jellyfish Island. When spoken to on Jellyfish Island, or on Shipshape Island if her plan was chosen, she talks to Luigi in private and gives him the Adaphne Scope and requests him to obtain three Zokket Alloys as materials to make the "best boots". Luigi suggests for Adaphne to work with Technikki, but she disagrees.

After receiving the Adaphne Scope, the Bros. also have the option to talk to Technikki, who is on Jellyfish Island if Adaphne's plan is chosen or Shipshape Island if her plan was chosen. When spoken too, she tells the brothers that she was also designing boots for them. Luigi then has the idea of both Adaphne and Technikki working together to create something amazing. Technikki then upgrades the Adaphne Scope into the Technikki Scope Deluxe, making it even easier to obtain Zokket Alloys. After obtaining the materials, the Bros. bring them to Adaphne. Before she can start building the boots, Technikki arrives. Snoutlet urges the two inventors to work together, and credits the idea as being Luigi's. The two then work together to create the Adaphnikki Boots, completing the side quest. Adaphne and Technikki walk away, telling each other that they are not too shabby. If Technikki did not upgrade the Adaphne Scope, Adaphne creates the Adaphne Boots herself and claims she is one step ahead of Technikki again.
