[edit] Objective and Modes

The objective in this game is just to win in the races, as with most racing games. You can choose from either a single race, which as the name implies will let you play one race, or the grand prix, which is four races in one. There is also multiplayer using the GBA's linkup feature, and a Time Trial mode to see how fast you can get on a course. This is also the first Mario Kart game to have a "Free Run" mode.

[edit] Courses

The game featured twenty new courses, and brought back the original twenty courses of Super Mario Kart. Peach Circuit, Bowser Castle 2, Luigi Circuit and Sky Garden later reappeared in Mario Kart DS, along with the Super Mario Kart courses Mario Circuit 1, Donut Plains 1, Koopa Beach 2 and Choco Island 2. In Mario Kart Wii, Shy Guy Beach, Bowser Castle 3, Ghost Valley 2 and Mario Circuit 3 returned.
