Not to be confused with Gold Mario.

"In Search of Lost Brother" (originally called "A Plumber's Lament") is a disguise assumed by Mario in order to sneak into Nimbus Castle, while Valentia has usurped the throne. According to Garro in the original version, "A Plumber's Lament"'s thick mustache covers the "sad, innocent smile of a simple fool," the sideburns symbolize the plumber's "blue collar roots," and the strong, muscular legs represent the "legs of the masses." In the Nintendo Switch remake, however, Garro says that the sculpture's thick mustache depicts "his kind feelings for his younger brother," that the sideburns convey "his strength of heart," and that the legs are well-defined and strong and "can leap any distance in a single bound"; this description, along with the new title of "In Search of Lost Brother," matches closer to the original Japanese description and title of the statue, and in turn, it references Mario's relationship with Luigi. While Valentina initially dislikes the sculpture, after Garro's analysis of his statue, she lauds "In Search of Lost Brother," calling it a piece of "gentle beauty" and "raw power." Valentina has the statue put on display by her servant Dodo next to gold sculptures of herself. Conversely, when Garro is being interrogated by two Birdy guards at the castle entrance about it, he instead claims that the statue was a sculpture of Valentina's nephew, Mariotta, instead. After Valentina is removed from the throne, Garro creates true sculptures of Mario and his party to thank them for their efforts.

As the lion hops off in defeat, Mario bangs his chest, proclaiming himself as "Marzan, King of the Jungle." They arrive at June and Ward's tree house, and Luigi attempt to present Marzan with a meatball sandwich in order to restore his memory, only to be interrupted by the arrival of King Koopa and his army, who begin attempting to destroy the tree. Believing Mario to be a sitting duck without his jungle instinct, King Koopa attempts to shoot him with a Cobrat, but is foiled when the sandwich accidentally lands in its mouth, which instead results in King Koopa being launched backwards into a tree.

The Night Before Cave Christmas - Error with the ground Santa Claus Super Mario World (The Night Before Cave Christmas) (as Mario)
This page is about Mario's disguise from the Super Mario World cartoon. For the "real" Santa Claus, as seen in other media, see Santa Claus.

Santa Claus is a guise taken by Mario to emulate the spirit of Christmas for the Cave People, setting out to deliver toys to all of the cave children in a Winged Yoshi-drawn sleigh. However, these toys are stolen by King Koopa, along with Oogtar, who had attempted to do the same himself. Mario, with the help of Yoshi, who has a pair of Magic Wings on, sets off to Neon Castle. Landing in front of Neon Castle, Mario and Yoshi hear Oogtar's cries for help, but they break through the wrong window, and are besieged by Mechkoopas, Thwomps, Dry Bones, and Koopa Football Players. While running from all these enemies, Mario finds a feather and uses it to become Cape Mario. With his power of flight, Mario picks up Yoshi and flies through a nearby Warp Tube.

Exiting this Warp Pipe, Mario and Yoshi arrive in the room Oogtar is being held captive in. Right before Oogtar is fed to a T-Rex, Mario flies in and saves him. Bringing Oogtar to safety, Mario, who Oogtar believes to be Santa Claus, manages to get him to confess to trying to steal all the presents.

Loading all the presents in his sleigh, Mario, Oogtar, and Yoshi escape King Koopa's Castle, just as the Koopa family (some creatures and Bully Koopa) find all the presents King Koopa stole missing. Arriving at Dome City, Mario drops Oogtar, who has had an epiphany, off at his dome-house. As Oogtar falls asleep, Mario drops off what appears to be a miniature television on his bedside table. Mario then leaves to deliver presents to the rest of Dome City.

Later in the morning, while Mario is asleep in the Dome Castle, Oogtar sneaks in and, believing Santa had forgotten to give a present to Mario, drops off a present for him.

Beyond the Super Mario World cartoon, Mario has also dressed as Santa Claus in other Super Mario-media, such as Warios Weihnachtsmärchen, Super Mario Odyssey, Super Mario: Wario no Mori, and various pieces of promotional art.

Mario fights his way through various members of Koopa's army, such as Cobrats, Flurries, Bob-ombs, and Birdo, before eventually reaching Koopa himself and beating him into submission. Mario is ultimately snapped out of this state after a slap to the back from the Mushroom King.

Mario also dresses up as the character in The Revenge of Pipe Ooze!, although he otherwise retains his normal personality.
