Template:Level Polar Pitfalls is the fifteenth level in the semi sequel to Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble!, Donkey Kong Land III. Located in the northern region of Blackforest Plateau, in the foothills of a tall mountain range, it is the third level in the area.

To complete this level, Dixie Kong and Kiddy Kong must make their way through a snowy tundra. Several chalets, that may be inhabited by members of the Kremling Krew, are found in this level; their snow-capped roofs can be used as additional platforms. A thick sheet of ice covers the ground, making it somewhat slippery. Besides the malevolent Skiddas, Krimps and Buzzes, the main obstacles here are the narrow, yet very deep, chasms that can be found in multiples places, as the level's name implies. Although most of these pits must be jumped over, two of them contain a Bonus Barrel. The Kongs encounter a tribe of Lemguins in the second part of the level, but these enemies mostly dwell in the level, Tundra Blunda.

In the Time Attack mode, unlocked after beating Baron K. Roolenstein in the Lost World, Polar Pitfalls appears again to represent "Snow" levels. It must be completed in less than 53 seconds.

Level layout

At the beginning of the level, the Kongs run down a slippery slope and defeat some enemies. Jumping over a snow-bound house, they end up walking through a long pathway full of a few more enemies. After getting over another house, the group can find the letter K. Farther on, the apes move around another snow covered house and run up a few more steep slopes. Once they both cross a few small gaps, they can find the letter O in the right side of another gap. After they get the letter and travel over a smaller gap, they move down to a low area, walking down some slippery, white hills. Eventually, they can make their way up a large hill to find a house. On it, they find the Star Barrel.

About halfway through the level, Dixie and Kiddy walk along a rather flat path and soon jump over another house, passing a Steel Keg. Shortly after getting to this point, they find the letter N and have to hop across a few small pits. Once they progress more through the level, avoiding a few enemies, the apes find a tribe of Lemguins. Watching out for the sliding penguins, they need to walk down some stair-like platforms to find the letter G. Shortly after, the heroes can find themselves climbing up two large, steep, snow-capped hills. At the top of these hills, they can find a flagpole. Once the touch the flagpole allows the apes to end the level.

Secrets

Bonus Levels

  • In the gap after the letter O, the heroes should see a lone banana. They should fall into that pit to be caught by a hidden Bonus Barrel. It sends them to the level's first Bonus Area, where the monkeys have to run through the area, avoiding a lone Skidda. After climbing a small slope, the group can find the Bonus Coin.
  • After the letter N, the heroes notice two gaps with Buzzes inside of them. If the Kongs jump into the gap where the second Buzz can be found, they land in another Bonus Barrel, sending them to the hidden Bonus Level. There, the Kongs need to run up and down some snow-capped hills and defeat some Skiddas, as well as a lone Krimp. After each enemy is knocked out, the Bonus Coin appears at the end of the stage.

DK Coin

  • After passing the Star Barrel, the heroes find a Koin in a low area with the DK Coin. The monkeys have to defeat him to get it, so they should pick up the Steel Barrel next to the house nearby and stand on the enemy. His shield protects him from almost all attacks, but if the Kongs throw the barrel against a wall, it bounces back and hits the foe, defeating him. This gives the apes the DK Coin.

Trivia

  • Since the song "Frosty Frolics" from Donkey Kong Country 3 was not included in this Game Boy sequel, the song "Cascade Capers", used in waterfall levels, also plays in Polar Pitfalls.
