Chompses are shark enemies that populate the waters of Donkey Kong Island in Donkey Kong Country. They resemble tiger sharks and swim slowly from side to side, biting and injuring a Kong upon contact. Chompses can only be defeated by using Enguarde the Swordfish. They can be found in Coral Capers, Clam City, and Croctopus Chase. Chompses have a relative species, the Chomps Jr., which moves considerably faster at the cost of being smaller and easier to avoid.
Chompses return in Donkey Kong Land, although now they borrow the appearance of their Chomps Jr. relatives. This is suggested by an official Donkey Kong Land guide book published in Japan, which presents the regular Chomps.
