Nintendo Sound Clock: Alarmo (also formatted as Nintendo Sound Clock Alarmo[3] and referred to simply as Alarmo[3]) is an interactive alarm clock manufactured by Nintendo. It was revealed on Nintendo's social media accounts on October 9, 2024,[12] and made available on the same day as an early-access purchase on the My Nintendo Store exclusively to Nintendo Switch Online subscribers in Japan, North America, and Europe, and for registration for a chance to purchase in Australia. It was released to the public on the same day at Nintendo New York in North America and on the following day at Nintendo Tokyo in Japan.[1] It was released in other retailers in Japan,[1] North America,[13] and Europe[6] and on the My Nintendo Store to non–Nintendo Switch Online members in Australia[4] in early 2025.

Overview[edit]

Alarmo uses a motion sensor to detect the movement of a single user in bed and features a circular screen. When an alarm is going off, sound effects play and the screen animates in response to movement. If the user gets out of bed, a fanfare plays and the alarm concludes.

Using the Gentle Mode makes the music stay the same, but using the Steady Mode makes the music more intense if the user takes a long time to get out of bed. Moving in the bed plays sound effects from the game chosen. When the user gets out of bed after the alarm, a fanfare plays and the alarm music ends. It can also play calm sounds when the user goes to bed. Alarmo has an hourly chime where many Nintendo characters interact with the time. The user can also use Alarmo to track the amount of time they were in bed for and their movements when they were asleep.[3]

Each alarm represents a different scenario from the source game, playing the corresponding background music and playing sounds from characters or objects to try to wake up the user. When the alarm is ringing in the standard Steady Mode, when the user moves around in bed, sounds that emulate the player acting in the scenario from the original game play. After eight audible beats from moving, the alarm goes into a snooze mode, or if the user stops moving before the threshold, the beats reset and the user has to start over. While the alarm is in a snooze mode, a lighter or quieter version of the music plays, with more subtle sounds playing when the user moves. There are three other alarm modes: Moderate Mode, which begins in the snooze mode and gradually increases in intensity; Gentle Mode, which stays only in the snooze mode; and Button Mode, which disables the motion sensor and acts akin to a standard alarm clock.

When the user gets out of bed, Alarmo plays a fanfare that corresponds to the alarm scene set. If the user goes back to bed, the alarm starts ringing again after 30 seconds of no movement. If the user stays in bed for 20 minutes after the originally set time, the alarm is replaced with a more intense alarm from the source game; this alarm is the same regardless of which alarm from the game is set. The more intense alarm otherwise behaves the same. If the alarm is set to Gentle Mode, no intense alarm sounds. After one hour of the alarm being active, it turns itself off.

The user can configure various settings on the Alarmo. Sleepy Sounds allows the user to set a bedtime for each day and have gentle music corresponding to the chosen alarm play after a set period of no movement in bed. Hourly Chime allows the user to enable a chime corresponding to the chosen alarm, with sounds repeating the same number of times as the current hour. As of the 3.0.0 update, the user can also configure a specific alarm type and wake-up time for each day of the week, and set how long Sleepy Sounds last from one minute to one hour.[14]

Themes[edit]

Alarmo features several themes based on Nintendo games. Each theme customizes the user interface and provides a selection of several scenes from the game that can be used during alarms. Although only five of these themes were available at launch, additional themes can be downloaded by connecting Alarmo to the Internet.

Since launch, Alarmo includes alarms themed after Super Mario Odyssey, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Pikmin 4, Splatoon 3, and Ring Fit Adventure.[12] Alarms based on Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Super Mario Bros., Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, and Super Mario Bros. Wonder are downloadable through software updates.

The user can choose a game and one of seven alarms for each game, or have Alarmo choose one game or alarm at random each day. The clock's screen displays the time, date, and set alarm time on the main screen, themed after the selected game.

A total of four Super Mario themes are available.

Release[edit]

In North America, Europe, and Japan, Alarmo was initially released for early access to Nintendo Switch Online members on the My Nintendo Store on October 9, 2024. In Australia, members instead register for interest in the product through a two-round lottery system for a chance to pre-purchase it, with the product shipping on November 13, 2024. The first round ended on October 14, and the second on October 28.[4] Due to high demand, the My Nintendo Store in Japan stopped sales of Alarmo and also switched to a lottery system.[1] The My Nintendo Store in South Korea also opened applications for a lottery on October 10.[15]

Alarmo was released to the public on the same day as its online release in North America at Nintendo New York and on October 10 in Japan at Nintendo Tokyo.[1] It later became available through standard retailers in early 2025 in North America[13] and Europe,[6] mid-February 2025 in Japan,[1] March 10, 2025 through online stores in Malaysia[7] and Singapore,[8] as well as the Nintendo Authorized Store by Synnex at Siam Paragon in Bangkok, Thailand,[10], March 13, 2025 on the My Nintendo Store to non-Nintendo Switch Online members in Australia,[4] and May 2, 2025 at Nintendo POP-UP STORE in Singapore inside the Jewel Changi Airport.[16]
