Release date August 1, 2022[1]

Big Bad Island is a LEGO set released on August 1, 2022, as part of the fifth wave of LEGO Super Mario sets. The set is centered around the large enemies Big Koopa Troopa and Big Goomba, which are more complex compared to their smaller counterparts, and have movable features. The Big Goomba can rotate its body, giving it the impression of walking with its feet. Its Action Tag is found on its head like the regular Goomba, but it takes three jumps to defeat it. The Big Koopa Troopa features red shell and boots, and its hands, arms and head can be rotated. Its Action Tag is on its shell, like a regular Koopa Troopa and it takes four hits to be defeat. When either of them are defeated, they award the interactive figure with various coins.

Iggy is also included in this set, referencing his original appearance as the boss of Giant Land from Super Mario Bros. 3. Iggy is fought on a triangular platform over lava, also referencing his boss battle in Super Mario World. By placing the interactive figure on the nearby platform, "Bowser BGM" from Super Mario World begins playing. Iggy can be thrown off his platform by rotating the figure left and right repeatedly. After he is thrown off, the interactive figure can then jump on his Action Tag, found on his shell. It takes six hits to defeat Iggy, which then awards the player with various coins.

The set also features a small board underneath the Big Goomba. Hitting the exposed side causes the Goomba to be launched upwards, revealing an Action Tag which awards one coin. A ? Block is also included as part of a staircase of Brick Blocks. By knocking over the blocks on top, it becomes accessible. Scanning a ? Block grants the interactive figure one of six possible items: a Super Mushroom (which allows the figure to survive one extra hit), a Super Star (which grants them temporary invincibility and the ability to defeat any enemy in one hit), one coin, five coins, ten coins, or 15 extra seconds.
