Adventures with Mario is a LEGO Super Mario starter course released on August 1, 2020, as the first set of the theme. As a starter course, the set features an interactive figure (in this case, Mario, a Start Pipe and a Goal Pole, the three main elements required to create a fully playable level. The set consists of various grass, water and lava bases which can connected in customized layouts. Other elements, consisting of decorations, platforms and two fortress-like structures can then be placed on the bases, creating the layout for a level. By placing Mario (or another interactive figure) on this set's Start Pipe, the player starts a timer of sixty seconds, during which they can play through the level by using Mario to scan Action Tags in order to gain coins. "Ground BGM" plays from the figure's speaker while a level is active. By touching the Goal Pole within the time limit, the level is won, and the player's coin count is tallied up. If the timer expires, the coins are lost.

The set contains several play features, most with Action Tags. Mario can be placed on a separate cloud, which can be lifted and moved around. While moving in the air, Mario gains coins and the Tail Flick sound effect from "Super Mario Bros. 3" plays repeatedly. Mario can also be placed on a platform which rotates around a central pillar. The longer Mario stays balanced on the platform as it is rotated by the player, the more coins he will gain. While on the platform "Castle BGM" plays. A ? Block included in the set can also be interacted with, which award Mario with one of six possible items: including a Super Mushroom (which allows Mario to survive one extra hit), Super Star (which grants him temporary invincibility and the ability to defeat any enemy in one hit), one coin, five coins, ten coins, or 15 extra seconds. A lever placed underneath one of the fortress-like structures can be used to knock it down, along with any figure on top of it.

Two figures are included in the set: The Goomba figure included has an Action Tag on its head, it can be defeated in one jump and it grants Mario one coin. The Bowser Jr. figure has an Action Tag on its shell instead, and it takes five hits to be defeated, granting ten coins upon the fifth jump.

The modular nature of the starter course allows for additional expansion sets sold separately to be connected to it, creating longer courses with more obstacles.
