Template:Level Haunted Hollows is the thirty-third level in the pseudo-sequel to Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble, Donkey Kong Land III. It is also the third area in The Lost World.

In this cave level, the Kongs begin underwater, but then make it upon land about halfway through the stage. Besides this, the level is normal, and it does not feature any new obstacles or hazards. As one of the game's final levels, however, it can not be made easy. Haunted Hollows is filled with many enemies. In the beginning part, underwater, the Kongs encounter several Lurchins, Bounty Basses and Kocos. Above land, there are many different varieties of foes. This includes Krumples, Knockas, Sneeks, Krimps, Re-Koils, and Bristles. The rare enemy, Kuchuka, will even make several appearances in this level.

Level Layout

From the start of the level, the heroes need to swim through a damp cave. They swim west as they travel, avoiding Bounty Basses and Kocos. Eventually, the group find a strait, underwater pathway where they need to dodge a few Lurchins to survive. Past this area, the heroes have to swim a little farther west and then head upwards to reach the next area. There, they need to begin traveling east and watch out for more underwater enemies, mainly Kocos. After a while, the group approach the shore of the water, where they have to dodge several Lurchins. After the letter O, the monkeys see a barrel above them. They must jump into it to blast to a higher level of the area. From there, they need to travel up a few stony ledges, without stepping on any Bristles, and then hit the Star Barrel nearby.

Halfway through the level, the apes have to walk west and defeat several enemies, including the mighty Krumples. Eventually, they find another barrel. Jumping into it, they are shot to a higher area, where they need to beat two Re-Koils. Soon, they are greeted by a Kuchuka and a Knocka. They need to pass them both and jump over a few Krumples to find some Sneeks and Krimps. After passing all these foes, Kiddy Kong and Dixie find a barrel. They have to jump into it and blast to an even higher area. There, they, again, have to defeat some Re-Koils and a Sneek. Afterwards, they find a couple of Kuchukas. They must dodge the two foes and head more westward to find more enemies. After passing the level's final Kuchuka, the group encounter the End of Level Flagpole. They must touch it to end the level.

Secrets

Bonus Levels

  • After the letter K, the heroes see a Lurchin. They must swim above him to find a Bonus Barrel, leading to the Bonus Level. There, the monkeys have to collect several stars around a cave area. They, however, need to watch out for Kuchukas throwing small bombs at them. Once all the stars are collected, the Kongs find their Bonus Coin at the end of the area.
  • Shortly after the Star Barrel, the heroes find a DK Barrel above a Kuchuka. They must head over to the next Kachuka to the right and jump into the hidden barrel above it. This barrel shoots them into a Bonus Barrel, then to a Bonus Level, where they need to enter an Animal Barrel and turn into Squitter the Spider. With this buddy, they have to cross a few abysses and defeat several Buzzes. Once all the buzzes are defeated, Squitter must pass a No Animal Sign and turn back into the Kongs. Nearby, if all the Buzzes were beat, a Bonus Coin appears.

DK Coin

  • After the second DK Barrel, the monkeys have to head strait up to the top of the watery area. To the left, they can see a small platform. Jumping on it, the apes find a Koin with the DK Coin. They need to defeat the foe to get it, though the Koin use the DK Coin to protect himself. So, the heroes need to pick up the barrel next to him, jump on the shield of the foe, and throw the barrel into a wall. The barrel will bounce back at the Koin and hit him in the side, defeating the Kremling and giving the monkeys the DK Coin.

Trivia

  • Although known as "Haunted Hollows" the level does not at all appear to be haunted, and only features one Ghost Barrel, unlike other cave levels.
