First appearance Mario's Time Machine (1993)

The Flute is an item in the PC release of Mario's Time Machine. It is the physical flute that inspired Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart to write The Magic Flute opera (although in reality, Mozart pulled his inspiration from a variety of sources, none of which included seeing nothing more than a standard flute). Before Mozart could look at it and be properly inspired, it is stolen by a time-traveling Bowser circa 1791, then exhibited in his museum alongside other stolen and time-displaced items. It is later taken by Mario who then travels back in time to Vienna in an attempt to bring it to Mozart, albeit without knowing that Mozart is the person who needs it. As a result, Mario shows it to some of the other people around Vienna. Constanze Mozart comments that the Flute is more than able to inspire Mozart, and an opera singer believes that the Flute belongs to Mozart. After confirming that it should be shown to Mozart, Mario brings it to him. Once Mozart receives the Flute, he thanks Mario for providing him with the inspiration he needs, and he soon begins composing The Magic Flute in his mind.
