The Football is an item in the SNES and PC releases of Mario's Time Machine. Its image features a modern goalpost, which was only invented in 1967 despite being obtained in 1878. Mario receives it from Menlo Park's local pharmacist, who gives it after receiving his brother's Telegram and reading its contents. He mentions that a "funny shaped leather balloon" was thrown through his window, and simply hands it to Mario. Mario can then bring it to the owner of the hardware store, who says that he lost the ball needed to play the new version of football. Once Mario gives the Football to the shopkeeper, he gladly exchanges the Football for a pair of Scissors and continues to talk about Thomas Edison.
