The Three Little Pigheads,[1] also known as the Three Little Pigs,[2] or simply the Pigs,[3] are a trio of pig siblings[4] who are the Mario Zone bosses in Super Mario Land 2 - 6 Golden Coins. Each pig has a different "house" they reside in and has its own attack patterns. Each of the pigs' abodes are based on the classic fairy tale The Three Little Pigs.
History[edit]
Super Mario Land 2 - 6 Golden Coins[edit]
In Super Mario Land 2 - 6 Golden Coins, they live at the top of the Mario Zone (in the Block Course) and guard one of the six Golden Coins.
The first pig, Buro,[5] has thick eyebrows, lives in a straw house, and attacks by rolling back and forth along the screen. The second pig, Bucho,[5] has no eyebrows (at times, very thin and long), lives in a wooden house, and tries to pounce on Mario by jumping around the screen. The third one, Bupon,[5] has a thick unibrow, lives in a brick house, and attacks by jumping, too, but leaps a bit higher every time. All three pigs were waiting their entire lives for a huffing and puffing wolf, and believe that Mario is after their home.[6] Each can be defeated by jumping on them three times or hitting them with six fireballs, and once one is defeated, the next one starts attacking.
Mario vs. Wario[edit]
The Three Little Pigheads appear in the Mario vs. Wario comic. Wario orders them to attack Mario after sewer rat's failure. Mario is oblivious to the monsters wanting to defeat him and mistakes them for a bowling game. The Three Little Pigheads are defeated by Mario, who knocks Bupon (which he uses as a ball) into the others (which he uses as pins).
Super Mario Kodansha manga[edit]
In the Super Mario Kodansha manga, the Three Little Pigheads appear in Super Mario Land 2 - 6-tsu no Kinka 2, as the first boss encountered in the volume. Wario uses dark magic to summon five guardians to guard the Six Golden Coins (giving the sixth one to Tatanga after convincing him to join his cause). The summoned bosses are rappresented by a lit candle in Wario's summoning circle. When a candle goes out, it signifies that the corresponding boss has died.
At the beginning of the volume, Wario sends the Mario Zone robot, converted into the Wario Robo against Mario and Princess Peach, while avoiding the hits on the flying Rerere, the two leave behind the three collected Golden Coins so the Three Little Pigheads steal them before hiding inside the robot. Mario chases them, while the Wario Robo catches Peach. The Pigheads ask Wario what they should do of her and Daisy, slowly being corrupted by Wario's presence while his prisoner, suggests making her marry one of the pigs. To decide the winner, the Pigheads begin a building competition, erecting their houses on top of the Wario Robo. When they finish building, Peach still refuses to be their wife, so the Pigheads decide to slam her to the floor. Mario arrives in the Wario Robo control panel, but he is caught by a crane and repeatedly hit by the Pigheads, but Bear and Luigi arrive to their help, cutting off the energy source of the Wario Robo. Now free, Mario punches the Pigheads and blows them up with a charged fireball, getting back his Golden Coins as well as theirs.
In Super Mario Land 2 - 6-tsu no Kinka 3, Wario uses dark magic to resurrect his army with more magic candles, including the bosses, but despite appearing during the final chapter, most of them have no relenat role during the fight. Battle Beetle, under Bear's instructions, blows out with his flapping wings the candles, causing all of the fallen enemies to disappear, including the bosses and Bear herself.
Super Mario-kun[edit]
In Super Mario-kun, the Three Little Pigheads appear in chapter 8 of volume 7. Buro is the first one to go, but he gets dizzy by constantly rolling and Mario kicks him into a wall. Bucho and Bupon go together and flatten Mario. When Carrot inflates him with an air pump, Bupon hits him with a Yashichi, deflating him. Just then, Mario receives a packadge from Yoshi with a box of cookies. As Bucho and Bupon go for another attack, Mario uses five Yoshi Cookies in a Panic formation, which hits all three of the Pigheads, causing them to bounce around erratically in the room. Mario takes the Mario Coin but just as he leaves the area, the Three Little Pigheads, still bouncing around, manage to hit him one last time.
In chapter 10 of volume 8, Mario summons a combined monster from the Casino, by aligning various bosses' figures on the slot machine. The monster, called Buro Pako Kurosu gattai, possesses Buro's head and rolling ability.
In chapter 11 of volume 8, one of the possible ways to loose the choose-your-adventure game is to venture inside of the Buro's snout, mistaking it for a cave, and being sneezed out.
The Pigheads are seen in the second bonus chapter of volume 12, participating in Wario's New Year party. First, two of them are forced to kneel until they bash their head on the floor, while Bupon is later turned into a spinning top.
