- “We were aiming to capture the excitement of a theme park or festival, with the bass laying down a Latin rhythm along with a lively brass section and drums. When you're underwater, the upbeat music changes just a little bit.”
- —Liner notes in the Mario Kart 8 Original Soundtrack
"Water Park",[2] also known as "MK8 Water Park",[1] is a musical theme composed by Shiho Fujii for Mario Kart 8, where it plays in the race course of the same name.
History[edit]
Mario Kart 8 / Mario Kart 8 Deluxe[edit]
Mario Kart 8 marks the first appearance of "Water Park".
A subdued arrangement of "Water Park" plays whenever the player is driving underwater. It is titled "Water Park (Underwater)" in the Nintendo Music app.
For both themes, a looping drum set beat is added to the instrumentation whenever the player is driving at top speed while in first place.
All four versions return for the same purposes in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
In the Mario Kart 8 Original Soundtrack version of the theme, both the original version and the underwater arrangement are played in sequence on the same track, which is titled "MK8 Water Park". Its "MK8" prefix distinction on the soundtrack is shared with "MK8 Mute City" and "MK8 Wild Woods".
