Bundle Stuff[edit]

Hey Tucayo, I have a question, when a character is announced to appear in an upcoming game, why do we wait till it's released before we add it. What would be the difference between adding it now or when it's released. The RPG Gamer (talk) (edits) PrinceDreambertSprite.png 00:32, 19 June 2016 (EDT)

What specifically are you talking about? --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 19:50, 19 June 2016 (EDT)
An example is like when y'know how when Paper Jam was nearly released some users put down Starlow's latest appearance as that game, why do we just wait till the game is realeased before changing the latest appearance. The RPG Gamer (talk) (edits) PrinceDreambertSprite.png 19:54, 19 June 2016 (EDT)
Oh, OK. We wait because technically nothing is definitive until the game is actually released. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 20:00, 19 June 2016 (EDT)

Thanks for updating the signature pages, while you're at it could you maybe change the colours on the "Usage" table in the page? It's hard on the eyes and almost impossible to read with white text on a yellow background. driftmaster130 (TalkEdits) 20:02, 19 June 2016 (EDT)

Sure thing. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 20:05, 19 June 2016 (EDT)

Mario Party 2[edit]

In light of your recent proposal, what are you planning to do with the minigames from Mario Party 2, which includes TOAD in the Box, TOAD Bandstand, BOB-OMB Barrage, Hot BOB-OMB, and BOWSER's Big Blast? I'm just curious as to what you're planning. Hello, I'm Time Turner.

I would like to move them as well, to be honest. I don't have MP2 so I can't see the in-game context of those being stylized like that or if it's just meaningless as with the boards in my proposal. If it's just random stylization, then I would be very inclined to move them. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 21:32, 19 June 2016 (EDT)
Judging by this video, the minigames use the stylized titles when played as normal and when the minigame is selected from the menu (and presumably when it shows up in other modes, such as Mini-Game Coaster and Mini-Game Battle). The Prima guide also uses the stylized names, which you can deem as important as you need it to be. I also agree with you on the random stylization: it kinda seems like they're capitalizing the names of enemies and characters, but other minigames like Shy Guy Says or Bowser Slots don't follow the same rule. One thing I didn't notice until after I linked to it: Hot Bob-omb didn't actually get moved alongside the other minigames, which is a big oversight that you could bring up in a proposal. Hello, I'm Time Turner.
It's so inconsistent I would like to move them all to regular capitalization, but I don't know if I can do that based on my proposal or if some more consensus would be needed. I think the reason Hot Bob-omb is there is because it was written like that in MP1, which is still against our policy since we should use the most recent name and that would be Hot BOB-OMB. It's funny because in that article, the capitalization on MP2 is just disregarded as a stylization and it takes Hot Bob-omb as the actual name. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 21:58, 19 June 2016 (EDT)
Personally, while the circumstances are slightly different (board vs. minigame, fully stylized vs. partially stylized), I wouldn't disagree with you if you wanted to use the former proposal as justification. Hello, I'm Time Turner.
I'll check with the admin team to see if I can go ahead and move them. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 22:12, 19 June 2016 (EDT)

Protecting Mario Party (series)[edit]

Should Mario Party (series) be protected? So far, three anons have made the same false info edit. (And now that I think about it, I guess it was unnecessary for me to block them since you can just protect the page anyway...) Marie pose SMM.png Mario JC

I'm not trying to sound rude here but you're a Patroller, can't you protect it yourself? The RPG Gamer (talk) (edits) PrinceDreambertSprite.png 04:23, 20 June 2016 (EDT)
Only sysops can do that. Marie pose SMM.png Mario JC
That IP is clearly Fidel. CrashBash (talk) 11:59, 20 June 2016 (EDT)
Yeah, protection would be best. The block is good since they were doing ban-worthy stuff anyway. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 15:40, 20 June 2016 (EDT)

Vandal warnings[edit]

I issued a warning to ErrorBuzzerSound2565 (talk) because they blanked a page and then restored it; I couldn't tell if it was trolling or just done as a one-time joke but went with the latter (benefit of doubt). I know that particular user was blocked as a sockpuppet but in that type of case (quick vandalism then revert) are you just supposed to leave them to get blocked? --driftmaster130 (TalkEdits) 17:27, 20 June 2016 (EDT)

Yes The RPG Gamer (talk) (edits) PrinceDreambertSprite.png 17:29, 20 June 2016 (EDT)
I'd appreciate if you'd let admins answer questions about admin stuff. Yes, users who join just to vandalize are always to be immediately blocked. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 21:13, 20 June 2016 (EDT)

Hey Tucayo. I want to have a proposal but it's for two pages, what do I do instead of just having the same proposal on two pages. The RPG Gamer (talk) (edits) PrinceDreambertSprite.png 23:01, 22 June 2016 (EDT)

Have it on MarioWiki:Proposals as one proposal, as long as the changes to both pages are of the same nature. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 23:15, 22 June 2016 (EDT)
On an unlikely note, what would happen if the proposal was a tie like there were 7 supporters and 7 opposers. The RPG Gamer (talk) (edits) PrinceDreambertSprite.png 18:59, 23 June 2016 (EDT)
It gets extended for a week. It can be extended up to three times before it's declared as a tie. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 19:07, 23 June 2016 (EDT)
Hey Tucayo many people say my proposal isn't very thought out, how can I make my future ones better. The RPG Gamer (talk) (edits) PrinceDreambertSprite.png 20:30, 28 June 2016 (EDT)
There's no simple guide to make good proposals. First off, it's indeed vague. You need to explain in more detail why the change is better. You also need to cover all possible consequences of the proposal, such as inconsistency issues. Take a look at articles that have a similar situation and then see if the change makes sense. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 21:39, 28 June 2016 (EDT)

I spotted a sockpuppet of many different accounts: KevinSquidy000 (talk). There have been many KevinSquidys before so could you please check his/her IP. The RPG Gamer (talk) (edits) PrinceDreambertSprite.png 22:45, 24 June 2016 (EDT)

Hey Tucayo is it okay if I upload a new version of File:Gnaw1.jpg I am 98% certain that mine is better. The RPG Gamer (talk) (edits) PrinceDreambertSprite.png 00:32, 27 June 2016 (EDT)

I assume you mean File:Gnaw1.JPG? Please use your better judgement. That image has very poor quality, so it can be definitely improved. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 00:37, 27 June 2016 (EDT)
Though mine is actually png so should I just upload it separately? The RPG Gamer (talk) (edits) PrinceDreambertSprite.png 00:39, 27 June 2016 (EDT)
Yes. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 00:39, 27 June 2016 (EDT)
The image that Fawful's Minion (talk) uploaded is bigger and a little bit better, but has a factor of blurriness to it. File:Gnaw.png A better version can still be uploaded. I am almost never fond of using YouTube or similar as a source. Pretty sure it should be tagged with image-quality. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 17:04, 27 June 2016 (EDT)
How's this screenshot Gabumon (talk) took? --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 18:49, 27 June 2016 (EDT)
Userpedia:File:MvsFF 2 07 11.png It's better but not entirely the best replacement we can do. There's significantly less blur to that image but still a little bit though and there is some jaggedness to it. It's best to be retaken in the latest version of Dolphin (5.0 was just released a few days ago). I've been experimenting with graphical settings and my sandbox screenshot page could use some updates to get even better screenshots than ever before. Where did Gabumon (talk) get that image? Also, what is the purpose of Userpedia? --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 00:34, 28 June 2016 (EDT)
Never mind. I went to GameFAQs and downloaded a "powersave" and then converted it with sq-dps (GBATemp) to be readable by either my Wii or Wii emulator. Problem solved. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 01:13, 28 June 2016 (EDT)
I think Edo took it himself but I don't know the specifics. Userpedia is a wiki for user fiction and other types of works that wouldn't fit in the MarioWiki. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 21:39, 28 June 2016 (EDT)

The 'Shroom[edit]

Hi Tucayo, I sent an application for The 'Shroom, did you have received it? I think I forgot to mention that I would like a confirmation in my message. --LudwigVon Sig.png(TALK) 22:00, 29 June 2016 (EDT)

I did get it, thanks. I'm sorry, I usually confirm receipt on every message but I was on a rush and I forgot. Your application is now being reviewed. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 22:07, 29 June 2016 (EDT)

Hello how many different languages can a user view this wiki in because I do know how to speak two languages (Macedonian and Chinese). The RPG Gamer (talk) (edits) PrinceDreambertSprite.png 16:50, 3 July 2016 (EDT)

I'm not quite sure what you're talking about. The wiki and the content can just be seen in English. We have a German and an Italian affiliate (links found on sidebar). --Henry Tucayo Clay (talk) 20:53, 5 July 2016 (EDT)

Protect or Block[edit]

Hi, can you please block the IP or protect Green Fire, because the same IP always make the same nonsense edit and change the Green Fire from a middleweight Kart to a Lightweight Kart. Maybe both would be a good idea. --LudwigVon Sig.png(TALK) 20:06, 3 July 2016 (EDT)

Beaten to it :P --Henry Tucayo Clay (talk) 20:53, 5 July 2016 (EDT)

Signature proposal[edit]

I know it's been a while since my proposal passed but I'm wondering why you decided to make a strong point of "encourage" instead of "mandatory". The signature guidelines already said that a datestamp is encouraged so that action would make the proposal ineffective. The proposal's goal was that a new rule should be added (maybe it wasn't clear enough in the proposal itself but I did say multiple times in the comments) making the timestamp (which, I don't see why is a big deal, it's not that hard to set up or can be inputted manually) a requirement for signatures, and that it would be enforced like any other signature rule (e.g. images, text, etc.) and would warrant an informal message at most, not a warning. With all of this, why did you choose to keep it toned down? I'm just curious over this; the current situation is perfectly fine and I'm not demanding to add that but I just want to know why the "enforce" part was quickly shot down. driftmaster130 (TalkEdits) 20:32, 3 July 2016 (EDT)

It's basically still a requisite but it's how I preferred it to be worded and seemingly how most other people did as well. I didn't like making it strictly mandatory to have a datestamp but rather make it strongly encouraged. A matter of semantics, if you'd like. --Henry Tucayo Clay (talk) 20:53, 5 July 2016 (EDT)
Ah ok, thanks. By "strongly", though, does that mean important but still not enough to warrant an official rule? driftmaster130 (TalkEdits) 21:34, 5 July 2016 (EDT)
What specifically did you have in mind? Rule 4 already mentions signatures should be followed by a datestamp. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 21:51, 5 July 2016 (EDT)
Exactly that; I didn't notice the specific at the end of Rule 4. driftmaster130 (TalkEdits) 21:56, 5 July 2016 (EDT)

romanization of Japanese names[edit]

I found that editors sometimes come up with different romanizations for Japanese names that include kanji. For example, ゴツゴツ山 could either read "gotsugotsu san" or "gotsugotsu yama" -- both are correct. Does the wiki distinguish "ゴツゴツ gotsugotsu yama", which means Nintendo has specified a reading of the kanji and the romanization is done accordingly, from "ゴツゴツ山 gotsugotsu yama", which means the romanization is conjectural?

By the way, when making edits like this, is it a good idea to upload a screenshot as a "proof"? A gossip-loving Toad (Talk) 22:02, 3 July 2016 (EDT)

It's not officially distinguished but it's good you are doing it that way to there is no doubt as to the romanization. It could be implemented in MarioWiki:Japanese so that other editors start doing that.
It wouldn't hurt to have a source backing that up so that other editors know where it's coming from. --Henry Tucayo Clay (talk) 20:53, 5 July 2016 (EDT)
Thanks. By the way, when should there be parenthesized Japanese name following the English name in the intro text? I'm confused as the Mario article doesn't have it but the Luigi one does. A gossip-loving Toad (Talk) 02:53, 16 July 2016 (EDT)
There's no solid guideline but the best would be if articles had it in the same manner as Luigi. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 11:28, 16 July 2016 (EDT)
Um... what about articles like this? If there isn't any etymological relationship between the English and the Japanese names, should the Japanese name still stay that way or be moved down to its foreignname section? A gossip-loving Toad (Talk) 11:40, 16 July 2016 (EDT)
If there is no relationship at all, I'd say move it down. Take note, this is only my take on it. Maybe a discussion on MarioWiki talk:Japanese could give us more opinions. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 11:49, 16 July 2016 (EDT)

Old User Personal Pages[edit]

PrincessJojora (talk) has three personal pages that don't serve MarioWiki. I only noticed this as I was replacing Super Paper Mario images. Should those pages be deleted? There could be more, but I could only find three when typing User:PrincessJojora into the search box. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 20:41, 5 July 2016 (EDT)

They should indeed be deleted, yeah. They are indeed the only such pages. --Henry Tucayo Clay (talk) 20:54, 5 July 2016 (EDT)
Fantastic! Thanks for deleting those pages. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 20:55, 5 July 2016 (EDT)

Shroom Images and Not Unused Images[edit]

Remember a while back how I said some images tagged with shroom-image and images tagged with not-unused were showing up in Special:UnusedFiles (probably unintended), reducing that special page's usefulness? YoshiKong (talk) implemented an ingenious way to fix that problem! See our talk pages to find out how the problem was solved. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 17:44, 6 July 2016 (EDT)

Yes! I remember it and I actually was recalling it when I saw YK and 22's solution; I'm glad it could be done! It goes to show all the things one can do in MediaWiki. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 21:19, 6 July 2016 (EDT)

I have a small request. I did a slight tweak to not-unused so that way no thumbnail gets generated by the link hidden away but still keeps the file from showing up in Special:UnusedFiles. Can you apply my change to shroom-image? It should be slightly more friendly to the MediaWiki software running MarioWiki and users browsing to the image pages. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 19:48, 2 January 2017 (EST)

I'm not 100% sure what that does but sure thing. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 00:16, 3 January 2017 (EST)
Thanks. If you need an idea how Media: works for files, see Nintendo Switch or Electrodrome for examples with their citations (<ref>). I also have an active proposal taking it one step further with the creation of a template. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 04:31, 3 January 2017 (EST)

Appealing Archive Warnings[edit]

Hey Tucayo I have a question, can you appeal warnings on archives. I personally feel I didn't deserve one of the warnings (definitely not the one you gave me) but another one, I checked both the warning and courtesy policies thrice and it isn't mentioned anywhere for the action I did, even though it's archived can I still appeal it as it wasn't deserved. The RPG Gamer (talk) (edits) PrinceDreambertSprite.png 03:40, 11 July 2016 (EDT)

Yes, you can appeal those as well. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 15:53, 11 July 2016 (EDT)

Vandal IP?[edit]

Got it, thanks. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 21:36, 12 July 2016 (EDT)

Giant Bowser and Giant Luigi[edit]

I have a quick question why is it Giant Bowser is a redirect to Bowser but Giant Luigi is it's own article? Shouldn't They both be split or merged either way doesn't really matter but it is just bizarre seeing this. The RPG Gamer (talk) (edits) PrinceDreambertSprite.png 22:27, 11 July 2016 (EDT)

From what I can gather, there's not enough info about Giant Bowser as of now. Should there be enough info to put together an article, it should be split as well. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 22:35, 11 July 2016 (EDT)

Main Images in Infoboxes[edit]

I noticed an IP changed the image of two pages on the Infoboxes for their respective articles. Back before when the other M&Ls came out we didn't change it (did we)? So the question is does the image in the infobox have to originate from the main series only or can it be like cartoon images as well? The RPG Gamer (talk) (edits) PrinceDreambertSprite.png 18:07, 12 July 2016 (EDT)

Main series images are better as they are more representative. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 21:30, 12 July 2016 (EDT)

IP adding false information[edit]

I just saw an IP add false information on two pages here is the said IP. ( EDIT: I already told him to stop. The RPG Gamer (talk) (edits) PrinceDreambertSprite.png 18:31, 13 July 2016 (EDT)

Recent Issue[edit]

The user DEJAPIERRE (talk) has been adding unnecessary (final appearance) trivia mainly on this page. Most of his edit history consists of adding that same trivia about it being the final appearance of a character in the game, the main article he's been doing this to is Mario Party 7, he did it to more earlier just so you can see here is a list of his contributions. I gave him a reminder earlier telling him to stop but he did it again a month later, he's also targeted Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story and Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door. The RPG Gamer (talk) (edits) PrinceDreambertSprite.png 16:30, 16 July 2016 (EDT)

He hasn't done it since you last told him about it so there's nothing that should be done. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 17:54, 16 July 2016 (EDT)
He just did it again. Though this time it was slightly different but still unnecessary. I gave him a Lastwarn so what should I do if he does it again. The RPG Gamer (talk) (edits) PrinceDreambertSprite.png 02:32, 30 August 2016 (EDT)
Let me know. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 15:45, 30 August 2016 (EDT)
I'm kind of certain this is bad but he also did this. I found it pretty unconstructive mostly due to the fact that it's not a reference because they appeared in games before that such as SMG1 and SMG2 etc. so it's hardly a reference referencing their fourth appearance because we can't got to the NSMB2 article and say Goombas return as enemies in this game so he's already on a last warning so what do we do now? The RPG Gamer (talk) (edits) PrinceDreambertSprite.png 06:37, 3 September 2016 (EDT)
I will take it from here. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 12:03, 3 September 2016 (EDT)

Mini-Boss category[edit]

I noticed that in the bosses category, all bosses were listed regardless to whether they were once (or always) mini/mid-bosses in general (eg. Big Buzzy Beetle Kamek etc.) shouldn't there be a category for both? The RPG Gamer (talk) (edits) PrinceDreambertSprite.png 00:01, 20 July 2016 (EDT)

What exactly do you mean by this? A category for one-time mini-bosses and a category for traditional mini-bosses? That wouldn't be necessary. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 15:53, 20 July 2016 (EDT)
What I mean is like a category for all mini-bosses not two seperate categories. The RPG Gamer (talk) (edits) PrinceDreambertSprite.png 16:20, 20 July 2016 (EDT)
Category:Bosses has Category:Final Bosses as a sub-category; it should be assumed bosses who are only in the former and not the latter are mid-bosses and mini-bosses. I mean, a category for mid/mini-bosses could be made for the sake or organization, but it's not exactly needed. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 16:35, 20 July 2016 (EDT)

Wrongful Move (Can't Undo Myself)[edit]

File:Goombo.png was moved to File:Galoomba1.png by Reboot (talk). It's a personal image belonging to Jhonatan2 (talk). I checked his talk page and there seems to be a personal image violation that never got resolved. Not sure how to proceed with this. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 04:58, 20 July 2016 (EDT)

Thanks for the heads-up, I took care of that. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 15:53, 20 July 2016 (EDT)
Thanks for the move-back but what are you going to do about the too many personal images problem that has existed for over two years now? --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 16:53, 20 July 2016 (EDT)
I hadn't noticed that, I'll just delete some at random so he remains at 4. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 18:32, 20 July 2016 (EDT)
I moved it because... it's not a Goombo. It's a Galoomba. Goombos are an actual thing. It's like having a Koopa Troopa image labelled Shellcreeper.png - Reboot (talk) 17:04, 20 July 2016 (EDT)
Personal images can be named whatever the current owner of the personal images wants, as long as it doesn't contain anything inappropriate, such as profanity or racial slurs. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 17:59, 20 July 2016 (EDT)
^That. Users can name their images however they please.

User Welcoming IP[edit]

AfternoonLight (talk) welcomed an anonymous user. Are we sure that's allowed because no other IPs have that on their talk pages. Will the template have delete-request? Will the user get a reminder of any sort? The RPG Gamer (talk) (edits) PrinceDreambertSprite.png 22:16, 20 July 2016 (EDT)

Welcoming IP's is completely unnecessary but there's no reason at all to give the user a reminder. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 15:39, 21 July 2016 (EDT)

about User:Wildgoosespeeder/sandbox[edit]

Hi. Wildgoosespeeder said here that you wanted his /sandbox stuff be passed as rules instead of recommendations. I wonder what that means? Will we be forbidden from uploading YouTube screenshots from then on? A gossip-loving Toad (Talk) 12:34, 21 July 2016 (EDT)

I said "official page", I never said "rules". It should be noted the page does not forbid anyone from uploading YouTube screenshots and I quote: "If you are going to take a screenshot of a YouTube video (or equivalent media), save in PNG format and tag the image immediately with image-quality so a more appropriately captured screenshot can be uploaded at a future date." --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 15:39, 21 July 2016 (EDT)
I think there was some confusion when I first mentioned my emulator screenshot idea and you said it was approved by the other admins. A lot has changed since then. I think the page needs to see review by the admins again in its current state. Also will this be a rule/policy (MarioWiki namespace page) or recommendation (help namespace page)? --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 15:53, 21 July 2016 (EDT)
As you said, we'd need to review it again to make the call. When it's ready to go you can let me know and we'll take a look at it. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 15:55, 21 July 2016 (EDT)
I don't think it is ready yet as a formal page but I would like to see how the other admins feel about the page as it currently stands. Think of this as a check-in to show how the project is progressing. Let's see if the other admins like the direction it is going in. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 16:00, 21 July 2016 (EDT)

Different emulator allowed?[edit]

Sorry to trouble you again, but if YouTube screenshots are allowed, then I suppose screenshots taken with a different emulator are also allowed? Only two emulators for N64 have been stated on User:Wildgoosespeeder/sandbox and I'm using a third whose result doesn't differ much. Take a Paper Mario screenshot for example:

Wildgoosespeeder's version My version
PM_Master_Poet_screenshot.png 20160722051521%21PM_Master_Poet_screenshot.png

Is that allowed? And if it is, does my version need to be tagged image-quality because it does not comply with that standard?

Thanks again. I'm sorry to be such a trouble since I already have a complete set of savestates and don't want to replay the game from start with a different emulator. A gossip-loving Toad (Talk) 20:55, 22 July 2016 (EDT)

Yes, a screenshot is better than no screenshot and they can be taken from YouTube or from any emulator. I don't think them being taken with a different emulator calls for the quality template, and we're actually discussing about the tag being necessary in YouTube screenshots. We'll have a full update soon, but yes, your screenshot is fine. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 23:50, 22 July 2016 (EDT)
Whoa whoa whoa. I think this is getting out of hand. A gossip-loving Toad (talk), I did think your original screenshot submissions for Simon were fine and didn't need image-quality. I just wanted to upload a screenshot generated by a different graphics plug-in for comparison-sake. As for YouTube as a source for screenshots, I consider it a lazy way to satisfy an article tagged with Image or more images. YouTube videos vary in quality drastically, but all are lossy. It makes maintenance harder for screenshot submitters if they aren't tagged with image-quality or are in the JPEG format (screenshots are better as PNGs). Emulators allow for full control of quality. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 00:55, 23 July 2016 (EDT)

Thanks for getting back to me Henry Tucayo Clay/Archive10! I was guessing that a policy was a long shot, but seeing its potential to be a help page, that's good news to hear!

 • I'll be sure to change the fake title since this page will remain a sandbox for now until I can finalize some things.
 • Although showing examples are good, I think a little bit more elaboration would be a good thing too. See File:Thwomp Wario's Woods.png for an example. Even though it meets dimension suggestions, it was originally a JPEG converted to PNG and abandoned by Xaq (talk). If a file size is oddly high, the person seeing the screenshot should upload a cleaner version of the image.
 • Post-processing: That would be applying filters after a clean screenshot was taken or using a filter as the game is running in the emulator (against MarioWiki:Image use policy anyways).
 • Feel free to tweak the wording now if you want. I don't mind. I allowed it before.
 • I don't have much to work with when it comes to 3DS screenshots because I can't do it right now. There is no indirect link I can supply right now. That is as good as its going to get unless an exploit gets released that can be used by anybody on any firmware version (browserhax, free eShop titles that happen to be exploitable, etc.). I am only acknowledging the 3DS hacking scene can do PNG screenshots.
 • I'll be sure to do that.

--Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 00:27, 26 July 2016 (EDT)

What odd timing. Two days later, I am now able to run exploits on my 3DS using latest firmware by using browserhax that was updated. User:Wildgoosespeeder/sandbox#3DS was updated. Cheers! --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 05:17, 28 July 2016 (EDT)

Another IP[edit]

An IP has been vandalizing pages. I'm not sure if this is the same guy as before but he was vandalizing pages and then reverting his vandalism just as I'm about to do it. The RPG Gamer (talk) (edits) PrinceDreambertSprite.png 16:17, 21 July 2016 (EDT)

Offensive message[edit]

I saw a highly offensive meesge on Walkazo's talk page. I was highly offended by it especially since she recently died. Can I remove that profane message as it is flaming. The RPG Gamer (talk) (edits) PrinceDreambertSprite.png 20:53, 21 July 2016 (EDT)

Restore Image[edit]

I am a bit curious but I wonder what File:Screen6.gif contained. Also it breaks the pattern, which makes me even more curious:

Please restore the image? --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 17:19, 22 July 2016 (EDT)

Images deleted before 2012 can't be restored, sorry. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 17:24, 22 July 2016 (EDT)

A Paper Mario edit[edit]

Hey Tucayo, some IP ( has continuously added some information on two Paper articles that there is nothing suggesting that those games took place within the Paper book when both Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door and Paper Mario: Sticker Star both start with a book. When both me myself and two other users reverted them even Mario jc a patroller reverted a few of his edits I already sent him a message telling him to please stop, if he/she does it again what should I do? The RPG Gamer (talk) (edits) PrinceDreambertSprite.png 04:15, 24 July 2016 (EDT)

The way he worded it in his last edit to each of those pages makes perfect sense and I would not undo that edit. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 11:21, 24 July 2016 (EDT)

On AfternoonLight (talk)'s talk, I gave him a reminder about edit sniping but I see he has done this once before. Should the reminder I gave him be elevated to warning? --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 16:34, 24 July 2016 (EDT)

Since the Reminder was already issued, then no, it shouldn't be changed. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 18:59, 24 July 2016 (EDT)

Odd thing in who's online[edit]

I have a question, even after a user gets banned how are they still online? Because I saw Arceus (talk), Jasmaniac (talk) and even TabuuandPeach (talk) online. How is it possible because when banned it automatically logs out the account. The RPG Gamer (talk) (edits) PrinceDreambertSprite.png 23:10, 26 July 2016 (EDT)

Glitch in MediaWiki when they try to log in. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 23:12, 26 July 2016 (EDT)
From my understanding of MW, blocks simply mean all editing rights are taken. Shouldn't log the account out or anything. Serpent SKSig.png King 00:28, 27 July 2016 (EDT)
^That does make more sense. Thanks, SK! --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 00:31, 27 July 2016 (EDT)

Suspicious user[edit]

I saw a user called RPGreferance (talk) in the user creation log, could you check his IP, because his name is very similar to a vandal with a almost identical name, is it him? The RPG Gamer (talk) (edits) PrinceDreambertSprite.png 05:14, 27 July 2016 (EDT)

The account hasn't edited since March. This is not something that needs action to be taken. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 17:24, 27 July 2016 (EDT)

Just a headsup, British" is misspelled. Also I saw the general discussion thread on the forums and from what I can understand, porplemontage (talk) decided to implement the policy of all British→American spellings and override any possibly proposal options; is this policy going to be fully rolled out shortly or is it already decided and just need implementation? driftmaster130 (TalkEdits) 17:03, 28 July 2016 (EDT)

Wooops, it's been corrected now. It's already decided, it just needs implementation. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 17:06, 28 July 2016 (EDT)

About the new American spelling only rule[edit]

I have a few questions about this rule, the first being what if someone's comment was spelt in British? Second question is in The Warning Policy the rule against that is still there aren't we going to have to remove that rule? The RPG Gamer (talk) (edits) PrinceDreambertSprite.png 17:18, 28 July 2016 (EDT)

Comments, obviously, don't fall within this rule. Only actual articles. That will be updated, yes, if you'd just wait. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 17:22, 28 July 2016 (EDT)
Should Lift be moved to Elevator then? -A gossip-loving Toad (Talk) 19:50, 28 July 2016 (EDT)
Also, some pages titles are in UK spelling, like Coloured Coin. I don't know what it's called in the US, but it may be something other than "Colored Coin" (since sometimes names differ by more than spelling in PAL). When linking to them, what to do if a US one is unavailable? A gossip-loving Toad (Talk) 20:23, 28 July 2016 (EDT)
I'm looking into that. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 00:01, 29 July 2016 (EDT)
I'll directly quote YoshiKong (talk), who helped me out on this one:

Hmm. I don't see why Lift should be moved to Elevator. "Lift" comes from Super Mario Maker, and "Elevator" comes from Super Mario 3D World. Super Mario Maker is more recent, so should take the title.

As for "Coloured Coin", MarioWiki:Naming says that the North American name takes precedence. If the North American name for "Coloured Coin" is available, then it should be moved, and "Coloured Coin" be kept as an alternate name and redirect. But if no North American name is known, but the UK one is, then that known name is linked to and titled as normal.

--TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 00:00, 30 July 2016 (EDT)

Hello. Does Category:Cancelled Games need similar treatment? --A gossip-loving Toad (Talk) 05:45, 8 October 2016 (EDT)

Hello. If I remember correctly, both spellings are used in American English, but "canceled" is by far the more common, so yes, it should be moved as well. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 11:09, 8 October 2016 (EDT)

About preferred spelling[edit]

Report Vandal[edit]

When reporting a vandal, can users use a template like user/vandal to show an example of his/her actions or does the reporter just have to put the troll's name/IP and nothing else? The RPG Gamer (talk) (edits) PrinceDreambertSprite.png 05:03, 29 July 2016 (EDT)

Whatever is fine as long as you don't make discussions there. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 00:00, 30 July 2016 (EDT)
And also, can you report duplicate account as well? The RPG Gamer (talk) (edits) PrinceDreambertSprite.png 03:30, 30 July 2016 (EDT)

Yes, under the "reported users" header along with a brief reason on why you suspect someone of being a sockpuppet. But unless it's extremely obvious that it's a match, then it's best to go to an active admin instead, where you can explain in detail why you believe that it's a sockpuppet. Remember that the noticeboard is no place for detailed discussions, as Tucayo said above.

Yeah, I know. We've had this conversation before as I now and still default to removing game categories and adding/changing to shroom-image (changing if tagged with image-quality). That's what I did before contacting you in this talk thread. I just find it kind of odd that you deleted shroom images that A gossip-loving Toad (talk) replaced but my replacements don't see a deletion. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 16:03, 24 August 2016 (EDT)
It's got nothing to do with who proposes it, it's that Toad's images were exactly identical. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 16:05, 24 August 2016 (EDT)
I also try to do that as well. See File:BowserCastleBleck.png for example. Some rare cases, I allow myself some freedom, such as File:Super Jump.PNG as the image I gave better demonstrates Super Jump. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 16:08, 24 August 2016 (EDT)
Yup, I gotta give you credit for uploading identical images in most cases! If there's an identical image that can replace a 'Shroom image, let me know and I can change them. If the images differ I'd rather not change them because that would be editing the original content of the article beyond maintenance edits. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 16:18, 24 August 2016 (EDT)
I think I have shifted over some single frame GIFs and JPEGs to be 'Shroom Images over time (since the last conversation). You are going to have to look through Category:Shroom images to find them. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 16:24, 24 August 2016 (EDT)

File:VanishCapUnderTheMoat.JPG -> File:SM64 Vanish Cap Under The Moat.png. By the way, can a 320x240 image replace a 640x480 one? The new version here was ridiculously 411KB large (even with PNG Monstrous applied). Rendering at 320x240 with Glide64mk2 results in 135 KB and angrylion may be able to further cut it down. --A gossip-loving Toad (Talk) 09:51, 5 November 2016 (EDT)

Is it really necessary to reduce it? From my point of view, we can live with that 411kb image. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 17:58, 5 November 2016 (EDT)
From my point of view, a 640x480 faked resolution of Super Mario 64 would be in violation of MarioWiki:Image use policy but since a heated discussion I had with Megadardery (talk) happened several months back, I just leave those images alone. It is true that a real N64 outputs to 640x480, but there are two possible catches. The RCA standard enlarges the 320x237 digital image to fit the 480i screen through an analog standard (which is prone to degradation) and only sometimes does an N64 internally produce very close to 640x480. I do heavily believe the angrylion plug-in used to produce my screenshots of Super Mario 64 is accurate enough emulating a real N64's graphical capabilities because that is what its developer is aiming to do more so than Glide64 trying to give N64 emulation modern features. Having smaller images like this might be beneficial to those on mobile devices. No blur as all pixels are on-screen so no reduction is needed to fit it on their screens. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 20:44, 10 November 2016 (EST)
To clarify, the reason I proposed 320x237 here was because 640x480 doesn't increase quality in this case, not because I want to eliminate diversity [640x480 is always]. Sometimes we can do better than these old hardware. --A gossip-loving Toad (Talk) 21:23, 10 November 2016 (EST)
I have revised my view on how screenshots can be submitted. If it has HUD elements present, try for a native resolution capture (angrylion is automatic). If it doesn't have HUD, then we can qualify that as a high resolution 3D render. I just hate to see HUD elements enlarged blurred instead of at the correct size. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 04:36, 11 November 2016 (EST)

I found three of my first replacements but The 'Shroom at the time didn't want to delete the JPEGs:

--Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 04:30, 18 February 2017 (EST)

I have a special replacement for you that is all about CSS:

(code changed by author)

<span style="-moz-transform: scale(-1, 1);-webkit-transform: scale(-1, 1);-o-transform: scale(-1, 1);-ms-transform: scale(-1, 1);transform: scale(-1, 1);float:right;"></span>
I am not following, sorry. What should be replaced and where? --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 16:03, 19 February 2017 (EST)
OK, just replace File:Flipped Toad and Blue Baby Yoshi.png with File:Toad and Blue Baby Yoshi.png. There is one issue and that is Meta Knight (talk) wanted the picture mirrored horizontally. I found a CSS method to do it. I am sorry I was so unclear. I was in a hurry. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 02:15, 20 February 2017 (EST)

--Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 02:20, 22 February 2017 (EST)

Seeing how this is getting kind of long and you might archive your current talk page in general soon, should I just tag certain Shroom images with delete anyways, should I continue to message you about it, or better yet, have a Shroom maintenance category related to image deletions so it can be reviewed by any Shroom staff? --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 18:44, 21 February 2017 (EST)

I'll get to those later today. Using delete is not the best option. A category would be good, but since it practically is my job to do it, then I guess the easiest thing is to keep coming to me. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 03:59, 22 February 2017 (EST)

--Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 00:23, 27 February 2017 (EST)

Is the latter really better than the former? --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 06:50, 17 March 2017 (EDT)

I don't know. I would go with the image that requires the least edits to articles to switch them over. Seems like the PNG is the easiest option. Your call.

I also have something to discuss with you:

Shroom image This image allowed for The 'Shroom should be deleted because Main Page is thought to be a suitable replacement. A 'Shroom Writer will use their best judgement and apply changes to the affected editorials. Once changes have been made, a sysop can then delete the image.

Category:Abandoned Shroom imagesCategory:To be deletedMedia:Henry Tucayo Clay/Archive10

What do you think? This idea is based on a previous discussion we had, although brief. This allows 'shroom editors to make the changes and then any sysop can delete the image instead of just you. There are a few options for categories. We can have this mingle with Category:To be deleted and/or have Category:Abandoned Shroom images be a subcategory, kind of like what delete-request currently does (Category:Deletion requested). Right now, my test is not forcing the image or this page into a category. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 04:11, 18 March 2017 (EDT)

I'll go over this with the Core Staff. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 08:16, 20 March 2017 (EDT)
Seeing how this came up around 50 times (probably many more in the future) and most of the time you approved the deletions, I think the core staff might be in favor of this template to some capacity, if not entirely. The template is all based on me working with you and me thinking there could be a time where you need to become inactive on MarioWiki. That way, someone else can carry out the requests for changing to the requested image(s) and deleting the unused 'Shroom image. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 16:15, 20 March 2017 (EDT)
Any word yet? --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 19:48, 25 March 2017 (EDT)

File:MAGIKOOP.GIF - File:MK64MagikoopaPrerelease.jpg This one is a bit of a special case because the uploader of the replacement image claims the image used in The 'Shroom is fake. Would changing over to the replacement ruin the context of the old 'Shroom article? --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 19:11, 15 May 2017 (EDT)

Yeah, this one should not be changed. For the next replacement please make a new header for ease of navigation. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 19:20, 15 May 2017 (EDT)

Level up progressions in Puzzle & Dragons: Super Mario Bros. Edition?[edit]

Hi. I was planning to make a "level up progressions" page for all the characters that can be leveled up in Puzzle & Dragons: Super Mario Bros. Edition here eventually, like those for some of the other Mario RPGs, where every character has their own table listing their stat growths and EXP needed. While those games have only several characters, this game has a staggering 178 of them, each with their own stat growths and EXP requirements. Would this be an issue? --Zootalo (Talk)

That would be an incredibly large page. There's no precedent for it but my suggestion would be to make it Puzzle & Dragons: Super Mario Bros. Edition level up progressions (1-100) and Puzzle & Dragons: Super Mario Bros. Edition level up progressions (101-178). --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 18:35, 21 August 2016 (EDT)

How do I sign up for the 'Shroom[edit]

Hey Tucayo, how do I sign up to become a member of your newspaper: The 'Shroom? I really enjoy all the issues of it and I would really love to be a member of the 'Shroom. Where should I go to sign up because I have some awesome ideas for this newspaper. :) The RPG Gamer (talk) (edits) PrinceDreambertSprite.png 06:05, 21 August 2016 (EDT)

Hey. All info can be found on The 'Shroom:Sign Up. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 18:35, 21 August 2016 (EDT)
I made up my mind. I want to join Strategy Wing (section: From the mushroom vaults) I have some excellent hints on many games I cannot wait to share. :) Also I couldn't find a link to sign up. The RPG Gamer (talk) (edits) PrinceDreambertSprite.png 19:56, 21 August 2016 (EDT)

Please send your complete application to our Statistics Manager through the forum. The Core Staff will have a week to review your application, and you will receive your results within a couple of days after the week passes.

Yup, I got it. You'll get your results via PM a couple of days after the week has passed. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 19:16, 2 September 2016 (EDT)
Whew I guess it failed oh well, I might try again in about a week. Don't worry I'm not angry this could help me learn for next time. Thanks and I will try harder next time. The RPG Gamer (talk) (edits) PrinceDreambertSprite.png 21:21, 4 September 2016 (EDT)
If I do another 'Shroom application very similar to the last one but I improve on the mistakes, will I get in. The RPG Gamer (talk) (edits) PrinceDreambertSprite.png 23:32, 26 October 2016 (EDT)
Since the "mistakes" were pretty much structural, I'd say you would have to start from scratch. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 23:34, 26 October 2016 (EDT)

RE: Animated GIFs[edit]

I don't know too much about GIFs as much as I know about PNGs. My guess is that, by design, MediaWiki shows a static image if the GIF is too complex for an animated thumbnail. I would try GIMP by importing the source video and resizing from there so that way GIF artifacts aren't as noticeable. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 22:15, 21 August 2016 (EDT)

This file is getting put up for deletion by Wildgoosespeeder (talk). Personally I have no problem with this but it's linked on to well over 30-40 user pages. Who's going to fix the links once the image is gone? I could easily fix mine but what about the others? The RPG Gamer (talk) (edits) PrinceDreambertSprite.png 21:53, 25 August 2016 (EDT)

We can't worry about red links on userpages. Each user can fix their own links if they so desire. If someone wants to adopt it as a PI then it could stay. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 22:57, 25 August 2016 (EDT)
I'm not really liking that mentality anyways. It adds to the pile on Special:WantedFiles, which is useless now. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 16:58, 28 August 2016 (EDT)

MVSDK2 Project[edit]

Hey Tucayo I am currently working on expanding the floors of Mario vs. Donkey Kong 2: March of the Minis as my project (the first two are complete). Move That Causes Problems (Specific To The 'Shroom)[edit]

Special:Log/move, Andymii (talk) moved File:KROOLDKJUNLGE.jpg to File:KROOLDKJUNGLE.jpg, leaving several pages linking to the old file name that I can't edit. The 'Shroom seems like the pages should be edited but my pet peeve is screaming that the userpages should be edited. Please take care of this issue as soon as you can. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 16:22, 17 September 2016 (EDT)

I've fixed the 'Shroom error. Tucky can fix the user pages, although I'm personally not that sure how much it matters, considering they aren't particularly active.

Regarding the reminder you sent me, I find that moving image names (especially if they have a major typo in their name) can be warranted under some cases. While image names are highly subjective, basic spelling should always be correct. It's a nuisance, yes, but it's the professional thing to do. --Andymii (talk) 16:57, 17 September 2016 (EDT)

Oh. I was just so used to the idea that only sysops can modify protected pages. :P I forgot Andymii (talk) is a shroomwriter and you have specific rights regarding shroom namespace pages. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 21:04, 17 September 2016 (EDT)

Do we have any idea where was the older upload taken from? --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 15:54, 20 September 2016 (EDT)
No idea. They are both visually similar so that is why I ask what should be done here because the user knowingly edited a gallery containing the image to link to the other as well. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 16:00, 20 September 2016 (EDT)
Until there's more information I guess we'll have to let both be. I think the older may be edited but right now there's no way to know for sure. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 18:13, 20 September 2016 (EDT)

Personal Image reverted[edit]

Hi Tucayo, one of my personal images (file Kenny James.jpg) was reverted to another version when I clearly stated that the April 7 2008 version was what I wanted displayed for my personal image. Could you please delete all revision on the image except for the first one thanks. If you're wondering why it's a personal image now it's because I already uploaded a PNG version of the existing file. The RPG Gamer (talk) (edits) PrinceDreambertSprite.png 14:42, 9 October 2016 (EDT)

We don't delete revisions for reasons like that. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 18:28, 9 October 2016 (EDT)
You may've misread it, I wanted the old versions of the file removed (much like what YoshiKong (talk)) is doing right now and just keep the April 7 2008 version seeing as the article already has two better images and my personal image has excessive duplicate revisions. The RPG Gamer (talk) (edits) PrinceDreambertSprite.png 20:24, 1 November 2016 (EDT)

User solely editing Userspace[edit]

Should I give Toadevil (talk) a Userspace? Because a high amount of his edits are on his userpage. The RPG Gamer (talk) (edits) PrinceDreambertSprite.png 00:37, 16 October 2016 (EDT)

Seeing how he hasn't edited in almost a month, no. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 11:45, 16 October 2016 (EDT)

Userspace edit amount[edit]

Yes. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 23:33, 17 October 2016 (EDT)

Are sockpuppets not allowed at all even if they're edits are very good because I noticed one and I have proof. The RPG Gamer (talk) (edits) PrinceDreambertSprite.png 20:18, 21 October 2016 (EDT)

Sockpuppets are absolutely not allowed. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 20:41, 21 October 2016 (EDT)
Okay well then how would you like to know about AfternoonLight (talk) I'm not trying to throw accusations but his/her personality is very similar to Burningdragon25 (talk) who was blocked by Phoenix (talk): Both use !s in summaries frequently, the two userpages say similar things also AfternoonLight's SmashWiki username is similar to Burningdragon25's (via User NIWA) on AfternoonLight's userpage. I don't want to sound like I'm being mean but I did notice it being familiar. The RPG Gamer (talk) (edits) PrinceDreambertSprite.png 20:56, 21 October 2016 (EDT)
Burningdragon25 was blocked for being a Reddragon19k (talk) sockpuppet iirc, and those two users had pretty much the same posting and editing styles as AfternoonLight. I'm pretty sure he's using a proxy to bypass IP checking. BabyLuigiFire.png(T|C) 20:59, 21 October 2016 (EDT)
Good catch, guys, thanks for bringing that up. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 22:03, 21 October 2016 (EDT)
I can see how easy it is to have a sockpuppet from another IP. I have a 2DS. If I could figure out how to log in using the 2DS, that would be a sockpuppet, even though IPs don't match. I don't plan on sockpuppeting, but if my computer were to not work and not have the information about the password transferred to my other computer, I would need to create a new account since the password is on this computer I'm using. Hopefully, that won't be the case. Yoshissm-animated walk.gif Yoshi the SSM (talk) 23:54, 21 October 2016 (EDT)

I'm not trying to throw false accusations here, but could you please look if 27Burst27 (talk), a user who was created today, is a sockpuppet of AfternoonLight (talk), who also was a sockpuppet of Reddragon19k (talk), his editing styles looks similar (both use ! on edit summary and vote) and his vote on a current TPP (removed because it was invalid) are similar enough to those cast by AfternoonLight. I'm suspicious. --LudwigVon Sig.png(TALK) 11:50, 24 October 2016 (EDT)

Deletion of a Template[edit]

Why was the protection template deleted? It's a pretty important notice template so why was it deleted this also applies to the twin of this template (the Unprotect one). The RPG Gamer (talk) (edits) PrinceDreambertSprite.png 04:25, 23 October 2016 (EDT)

It's not important. The deletion log says why it was deleted. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 11:52, 23 October 2016 (EDT)

Scam on old user's userpage[edit]

I noticed another user HyperToad (talk) has a fake new message box on top of his userpage. What's more is if you click on the "no seriously don't" link it logs you out of your account. Shouldn't the fake box be removed per policy? The RPG Gamer (talk) (edits) PrinceDreambertSprite.png 03:13, 26 October 2016 (EDT)

The user hasn't edited in over 7 years, it frankly doesn't matter. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 15:48, 26 October 2016 (EDT)

Template editing[edit]

Whenever I make an edit to a infobox template a perfect example would be Pitenemy it messes up the template. I'm trying to add in a new section but it keeps stuffing up, how do I stop this from happening? The RPG Gamer (talk) (edits) PrinceDreambertSprite.png 18:43, 26 October 2016 (EDT)

Show me the coding you're using. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 18:45, 26 October 2016 (EDT)

RE:Welcoming Users[edit]

Should that be an additional rule on the MarioWiki:Welcoming users page, then? If the user hasn't made an edit in at least a month, there should be no need to welcome them? I'm all for being friendly, but I agree with what you said. Anything more than a month and it's basically welcoming an inactive user. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 18:43, 26 October 2016 (EDT)

I figured it was common sense, but sure, I?m all for adding that. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 18:45, 26 October 2016 (EDT)
Alright, cool. Though I think it should be a bit more apparent than that... Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 18:51, 26 October 2016 (EDT)

Hello, I'm asking you this question because you are currently online and you're an admin. Why do many users, including admins, make images in their userboxes bigger than 40px when Help:Userbox says that they can only be 40px?

Demote Some Shroom Images to be Regular Images?[edit]

Here's a question about screenshot uploads specifically for The 'Shroom. Two images (possibly many more), File:Alpine-Pass-shortcut.png and File:Dino Dino Jungle Shortcut MK7.png, would be really good images for Rock Rock Mountain and Dino Dino Jungle respectively. Would it be a good idea to demote their 'Shroom Image status and just link them to the articles as well as The 'Shroom pages? I could even upload higher quality versions of these images. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 23:11, 4 November 2016 (EDT)

It's perfectly fine to use them for regular articles. When it comes to uploading new revisions, the images have to be practically identical to the old image; if they're not, it would be better to upload them as a new file. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 18:00, 5 November 2016 (EDT)
They were changed to reflect they are for Category:Mario Kart 7 Images instead of shroom-image and have been updated with captures from HANS to be as close as possible to the original capture made by Super Mario Bros. @Reboot (talk) I don't think that is what Henry Tucayo Clay (talk) was referring to. I don't have any secret of getting nearly identical screenshots. I guess it just comes down to practice or luck because I have submitted thousands of images since last year around this time. It's even more impressive that I am doing this on real hardware because emulation, you can slow down or control frame advancement. The technique just has much more hardcore execution in TAS-ing. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 21:49, 5 November 2016 (EDT)

Possible discourtesy[edit]

I don't know if this is discourteous but a user Reboot (talk) used my old name in a talk page discussion with no mention of my current name. I felt like he was acting discourteous towards me (especially since he added that to the comment). I am pretty ashamed of that name. Since he did that and didn't mention my current name (not to mention I'm ashamed of the previous one), does this count as discourteous behaviour? The RPG Gamer (talk) (edits) PrinceDreambertSprite.png 06:04, 6 November 2016 (EST)

I have had a few run-ins with him like this as well like this but I dismissed them (wrong move on my part) and are irrelevant now to do anything about due to policies stating that they can't be punished after that kind of length of time. I think a warning is acceptable to give him, but wait until Henry Tucayo Clay (talk) gives the final word. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 05:01, 7 November 2016 (EST)

Mario Maker 3DS Voices[edit]

Since Super Mario Maker for 3DS is basically a remake of the Wii U version and all the voices are the same, does this mean that the voice actors are official. If so, can I add the game to the portrayals list of their respective articles? The RPG Gamer (talk) (edits) PrinceDreambertSprite.png 15:30, 17 November 2016 (EST)

Ports for which no new material was recorded should never be listed as the latest portrayal. Regardless, it's fine to include them in the portrayals list, but they should be accompanied by a note saying something like "(voice clips were reused from Super Mario Maker). --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 16:19, 17 November 2016 (EST)

linking in hatnotes[edit]

Hello. Is this way of linking allowed? I don't recall the policy stuff but Porplemontage once ran a bot to eliminate the use of "|here]]" in hatnotes so I guess it's undesirable... --A gossip-loving Toad (Talk) 23:28, 20 November 2016 (EST)

If Steve ran the bot to do that, then yes, it's undesirable. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 23:33, 20 November 2016 (EST)

Rollback Question[edit]

Can you admins rollback an edit on a page if the page only has one contributor? If so what will happen? The RPG Gamer (talk) (edits) PrinceDreambertSprite.png 17:41, 22 November 2016 (EST)

It can't be done, it would have to be manually undone. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 20:12, 22 November 2016 (EST)

What was a "Shop"?[edit]

I've seen mention of a "Shop" on several talk pages, but apparently a proposal passed a while ago (before I registered) and they were all removed. I'm curious: what were they and how did they work? Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 19:46, 23 November 2016 (EST)

Ah, the infamous shops. They were pretty big a while ago; users would set up a "shop" in their userpage in which they would "sell" items of their choice. Other users could go to your talkpage and ask to "buy" them. Not sure how you even earned coins, it went against every law of economics. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 21:41, 23 November 2016 (EST)
Were the coins used for something, like downloadable games? Or was it more of a "just for fun" thing? Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 00:45, 24 November 2016 (EST)
No, it was entirely a "just for fun" thing. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 09:06, 24 November 2016 (EST)
Interesting. Were they removed due to having nothing to do with the wiki, or for some other reason? Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 11:51, 24 November 2016 (EST)
This proposal should be worth a look.
'Shroom Spotlight Shokora (talk · edits) 12:21, 24 November 2016 (EST)
Huh. Yeah, I'll go "Per Walkazo" on that one. The shops certainly seemed like a fun concept and appears to have been fun for a time. But, yeah, there wasn't really much of a need for them, was there? Though it'd be fun to see them return in some way, perhaps on the forums where they're away from wikispace. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 14:16, 24 November 2016 (EST)
They were quite distracting and unnecessary, yeah. There's nothing preventing them from taking place in the forums, so I guess just no one has felt like making one. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 15:58, 24 November 2016 (EST)

Some anonymous user(s)[edit]

There are a few anons (I'm pretty sure it's all the same guy jumping from different IPs. They've been making somewhat unconstructive edits and all their edit summaries just have the name of the article edited rather than a proper edit summary describing what was changed. for example when this anon edited the Recipes page he puts down Recipes in the summary. I think this kind of behaviour is really weird, I told one of the IPs to put more appropriate summaries rather than the names of articles but they continued. One of the IPs has also been blocked twice. What should be done. The RPG Gamer (talk) (edits) PrinceDreambertSprite.png 13:23, 24 November 2016 (EST)

Personal Sig Image[edit]

I couldn't help but notice I think your sig image isn't using the right copyright tag. I think it should use derivative-work instead of pd-self because it uses the Jade Raven, a sprite from a copyrighted game. I didn't want to edit the image page without running it by you first. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 18:36, 11 December 2016 (EST)

Image Placement[edit]

I think this would be a cool image to have on the wiki, but I have no idea where it should go. Think you can find a home? Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 22:37, 12 December 2016 (EST)

I can think of a potential home but it's honestly quite a stretch. List of Mario references on the Internet, add a section for The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon (since it was a YouTube exclusive) and mention that the video shows Miyamoto guessing the size of various random objects, among them a ? Block. Granted, the best image to have would be of him with the block. As I said, it's quite a stretch, the mage doesn't relate to Mario so the best would probably be a PI. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 23:44, 12 December 2016 (EST)
Hm. I've already hit my max four. 'Course I could just make one a sig image and make the Miyamoto one my PI. Would that work? Like you said, the pic wouldn't exactly fit anywhere else, so I guess I'll do that. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 00:30, 13 December 2016 (EST)
EDIT: It appears Eldritchdraaks (talk) included it as part of Miyamoto's promotional photos. That a good place? Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 00:32, 13 December 2016 (EST)
Eh, it's by no means a promotional photo. I'm willing to let it stay there but don't be surprised if it gets deleted. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 19:28, 13 December 2016 (EST)
If there really isn't a good place for it on this wiki, then feel free to delete it. I tried finding a good place for it other than as an PI, but I can't. Go ahead. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 19:30, 13 December 2016 (EST)

Huh, what's even happening with that page? Here you go. Line breaks won't show in the page but you can take a look at the coding.

Needs to show the Off Waves themselves The Off Waves are an immensely powerful attack used by Tabuu in Super Smash Bros. Brawl's adventure mode, The Subspace Emissary. To use it, Tabuu reveals his wings and releases a red shockwave that can instantly turn fighters into a trophies. Tabuu first uses the Off Waves when the characters enter Subspace. After Master Hand is defeated, Tabuu unleashes the attack to transform every fighter into a trophy. Luigi, Ness, and Kirby are revived by King Dedede's brooches and they begin reviving the fighters as they travel through Subspace. After traversing The Great Maze, they encounter Tabuu again. He prepares his Off Waves again, but Sonic attacks him and breaks Tabuu's wings, rendering his Off Waves unable to turn the fighters back into trophies. During the final boss battle with Tabuu, he uses the Off Waves by flying into the background and releasing them across the screen. It is a One-Hit KO and can only be avoided by rolling or sidestepping. Tabuu will use the Off Waves every eighth move. BoxTop SSBB [[Category:Super Smash Bros. Mario and luigi superstar saga redirect[edit]

The redirect was recently deleted, but some people type with all lowercase letters. In that case, before it got deleted, I tried it and it didn't even take me to the actual page. If you try it, then you'll experience the same results. By the way, according to MarioWiki:Redirects, typing "super mario galaxy" in the search box for example takes readers to the main page about the game. It doesn't work for this particular redirect. Could it be possible to restore the redirect so that it works properly? And if not, try to find some other way around it? – Owencrazyboy9 (talk) 14:18, 8 April 2017 (EDT)

There you go, I moved the Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga redirect to all lowercase and now it works for both capitalizations. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 14:25, 8 April 2017 (EDT)
Perfect! Just tested it myself and it worked flawlessly. – Owencrazyboy9 (talk) 14:31, 8 April 2017 (EDT)

Should the Unagi the Eel redirect be moved to Unagi the eel? The same problem happens with that redirect, along with the fact that the official capitalization of the name is "Unagi the eel" and not "Unagi the Eel". --FlameChompNSMBW.pngTheFlameChomp (talk) 21:24, 9 April 2017 (EDT)

You're welcome :) --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 09:28, 10 April 2017 (EDT)

Toadette the Achiever (talk) and I have been discussing the redirect Afoot in the Foothills, which has a similar issue to the redirects mentioned above. Toadette says that the redirect should stay the way it is, while I said it should be changed to lowercase to fix the issues. Do you think it should be fixed like the above redirects, or should it be kept the same? Also, rule number 4 on MarioWiki:Redirects was brought up, and we would like to know if it is saying that redirects must be obscure enough to not be on any MediaWiki searches, or if it is specifically saying that redirects like "Super Mario odyssey" or "New Super mario bros. wii" are unnecessary due to pages with the same name. --FlameChompNSMBW.pngTheFlameChomp (talk) 20:25, 23 April 2017 (EDT)

The thing about that redirect is that users may try to directly link to Afoot in the Foothills, so moving to lowercase will leave a red link in the proper capitalization. Let me consult with the admins so we agree on something consistent to be done. Regarding the rule, it's the latter; there's no point in a "Super Mario odyssey" redirect. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 16:58, 25 April 2017 (EDT)
Ok, thanks! I it didn't even occur to me that it would create a red link with the proper capitalization. --FlameChompNSMBW.pngTheFlameChomp (talk) 17:03, 25 April 2017 (EDT)
Steve has decided to allow both the all-lowercase and the proper capitalization redirects in cases such as this, so both Afoot in the Foothills and afoot in the foothills should be redirects. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 02:38, 26 April 2017 (EDT)
