Tsutan'ōmen are enemies in the Game Boy version of Donkey Kong. They resemble living statuettes, adorned with a nemes.

History[edit]

Donkey Kong (Game Boy)[edit]

They are exclusive to Stage 5-12 of the Desert. Tsutan'ōmen are hurled by Donkey Kong. Once they land on a platform, Tsutan'ōmen get up on their small feet and begin walking forwards and backwards. Mario loses a life if he touches their sides. In order to defeat Donkey Kong, which is mandatory to pass the stage, Mario has to pick up and throw three Tsutan'ōmen against him. The Tsutan'ōmen themselves can be defeated by getting launched into other members of the same species or into Donkey Kong.

Super Mario Kodansha manga[edit]

In the Super Mario Kodansha manga, Tsutan'ōmen appear in the Donkey Kong adaptation.

In Super Mario: Donkey Kong 2, a Tsutan'ōmen is seen with the other enemies building the Tower and attacking Mario and friends in chapter 2 until Monchee interveens; and in chapter 3 one is seen helping the Kongs fight the Kremling Krew, until DK and Donkey Kong Snr. are knocked out, causing the Kong army to retreat after the defeat of their leaders.
