The Shine Gate Sparkle,[1] also called Mario’s Cleaning Service,[2] The Mighty Shine Gate,[3] and Shine Gate,[4] is an episode in Delfino Plaza in Super Mario Sunshine. The episode requires Mario to go to the Shine Sprite effigy covered in black graffiti, either from a well-timed rocket jump from the Rocket Nozzle in front of the gate, or a Side Somersault from the raised area behind. The main part of the mission involves using the Squirt Nozzle to clear away the graffiti covering the effigy, which slowly spins as the graffiti clears away. After doing so, the effigy shines, and a Shine Sprite is revealed. It is placed high above the Shine Gate, and reaching it requires the use of the Rocket Nozzle, because without it, the Shine Sprite cannot be collected and will disappear once Mario leaves Delfino Plaza. After the Shine Sprite is collected, the Shine Gate remains clean whenever the camera pans throughout Delfino Plaza after returning from a mission.
