Spanias are a species of Spinias that are found in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door and Super Paper Mario. Unlike most groups of related species, Spanias are not stronger or weaker than the main species; instead, the only differences between them and Spinias are their brown coloration and the spikes on their head. "Spania" is based on the past tense of "spin", "span" and derived from its parent species's name, "Spinia". "Spania" is also the Norwegian and Romanian name for the country of Spain.

Template:Species-infobox Spanias are a species of Spinias that are found in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door and Super Paper Mario.

Since they have spikes, Spanias cannot be jumped on. They attack by dashing and spinning in order to ram Mario and his partners. Two Spanias also appear in Chapter 3 of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, as a member of the Glitz Pit team the Destructors who serve as a brief replacement for Bandy Andy and the Hand-It-Overs, who "retired".

Spanias mostly live in underground places such as Rogueport Sewers, the Pit of 100 Trials in Rogueport, the Floro Caverns, Castle Bleck and the Flipside Pit of 100 Trials. They are the only kind of Spinia that appears in Super Paper Mario, along with a new species called a Dark Spania, which is a stronger, pitch black version of Spanias that is found only in the Flopside Pit of 100 Trials.

Spanias are also three-dimensional so even if the player has Flipped into 3D, Spanias will still attack the player.
